August Wrap-Up

August Overview

I feel like I’ve said this in every wrap-up recently, but I didn’t do much this month. I’m so focused on school stuff that I’ve become the most boring person ever. I finished my grad school thesis (!), wrote most of a lecture on nonlinear narrative structure, and applied for graduation. The thing you’re reading right now is also the 500th post I’ve written for this blog. Those are the highlights of my month.

I also took a picture of this plant eating a lantern in my yard.

Books I Read

In August, I read 9 books. Not the greatest reading month, but eyestrain has become the bane of my existence. Even with massively thick glasses, I get eyestrain. I’m reading as fast as I can.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – J.K. Rowling, et al.
More Happy Than Not – Adam Silvera
Geek Love - Katherine Dunn

I also made some progress on my challenges. Click here to see how I’m doing.

Tentative September TBR

In August, I started using a random number generator to pick most of the books I read. That worked really well, so I’m going to do it again. I’m also going to be reading these three:

Challenger Deep – Neal Shusterman
All the Bright Places – Jennifer Niven
Guys Read: Funny Business – Jon Scieszka (editor)

All The Things!

All The Things (AKA my TBR pile) = 25 books.
I’m currently reading Brides of Eden by Linda Crew.

  7. OMG.... I was feeling the same way this summer. Like I was a boring person. Then I started writing blogging posts again and realized ... maybe I've got things to say. Good thing about me taking a small blogging break is that now I have a lot of reviews to write. And that feels good. You've read a lot of books I've been interested in. I'm about to go check out your reviews.

    1. Wrap-ups are hard because I don’t feel like I do anything interesting. Everybody is posting photos of family vacations, and I’m posting photos of a lamp in my yard.

  8. First off, it sounds like you did A LOT this month!! Don't discount the amazing things that you're accomplishing with school (even though I know they might not feel like the most exciting things to describe)!

Two of the three books you're reading this month are favorites of mine (Challenger Deep and AtBP), so I hope you LOVE them! (Challenger Deep takes a little while to make sense, so give it a little time if you're feeling baffled.) I loved More Happy than Not too, so I'm glad you enjoyed that one!

    1. Thanks! I accomplished a lot, but none of it is interesting to blog about. I have a feeling that I’ll like Challenger Deep and AtBP. They both seem like my kinds of books.

  10. Even though you don't think you did a lot this past month, it certainly seems like the opposite! Congrats on the thesis :D and reading so many books (I hope the eyestrain eases up for you). Let's hope September is great!
