Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books I’ve Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is top ten hyped books I’ve never read. I decided to go with hyped series that I’ve never read. Let me know if I should read any of these.

Series I’ve Never Read

1. The Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson: I totally meant to read this series. I just never got around to actually doing it. Now I feel like I’ve missed the boat. Nobody is talking about these books anymore because everybody except me read them five years ago.

2. The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini: I read the first book when I was a teenager and struggled to stay interested in it. I read the second book as an adult and gave up on it. I guess dragons just aren’t my thing.

3. The Host Series by Stephenie Meyer: I did not like Twilight, so I never picked up this series, even though I’ve been told that it’s much better than Twilight.

4. The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare: This is a similar situation to #3. I had a really hard time getting through The Mortal Instruments, so I gave up on Cassandra Clare novels. I have heard that this series is much better, though.

5. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: I read Cinder and was underwhelmed. I thought I might continue with the series, but I’ve kinda lost interest in it. I’m not a huge fan of fairytale retellings.

6. The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner: Exact same situation as #5. I read The Maze Runner, and it was okay, but I haven’t felt the desire to continue with the series.

7. The Divergent Series by Veronica Roth: I got the trilogy as a boxed set, so I read those, but I didn’t love any of them. I haven’t read any of the companion stories to the trilogy.

8. The Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson: These books are sitting on my shelf right now. I will read them. Eventually.

9. The Lord of the Rings Series by J.R.R. Tolkien: I loved The Hobbit as a kid, but I’ve never been able to finish The Lord of the Rings. I’ve tried so many times.

10. A Song of Ice and Fire Series by George R.R. Martin: I’d love to read these someday, but they’re so huge. It would take the rest of my life to get through them.

  1. I read books 1 & 2 of The Maze Runner series and just wasn't impressed enough to continue any further. I think this is a strange case of the movie being better than the book... And I have the same problem with The Lord of the Rings! I LOVED The Hobbit! But I've made it halfway through The Two Towers twice without being able to finish... Which is insane because I'm a total LotR (movie) nerd!

    Here are my Top Ten!

  2. I've only read Divergent on this list - I did like the first two books but not the third. I am starting the Lunar Chronciles soon so we will see how that goes. The whole retellings thing is new to me and I am not sure how I feel - Great list!

  3. I LOVED The Lunar Chronicles, but I know not everyone is a fairy tale retelling fan. I've only read the first two books in the Divergent trilogy, but since I know the ending (someone spoiled it for me), I'm not sure if I'll finish it.

  4. I'm reading the second book of The Maze Runner series, but it took me a year to get to it. The only reason I'm reading it now is because I'm thinking about doing a book review for the school paper when the movie comes out and have someone else do the movie review. There are parts I like but his books are kind of difficult for me to get into.

  5. There's several on here that I haven't read either. The Maze a Runner made mine too. I just have no desire to read it. I've even checked it out from my library 3 times and haven't cracked it open once!

I did enjoy Cinder, Scarlet even more, but didn't care for Cress. I'm hoping Winter is better since I've already read all the others.

    Great list!

  7. I agree with Tracey about LotR... I adore the movies and that kind of fantasy stuff but I just could not get through the books... (When Gandalf had a 2 page monologue... I called it quits...)

Maze Runner, like some others, I was underwhelmed with :/ I enjoyed them but they never really got my blood pumping.

Now Lunar Chronicles, I loved!!! But I'm a huge fairy tale retelling fan :)

    Great list!!!! check out mine?

  8. I read Lord of the Rings when I was younger and loved those books, but I love fantasy. and I could never get interested enough to read Host...Twilight just was average nothing to impress or anything, so I didn't ever want to try Host out anyway. I do like Brandon Sanderson, hope you enjoy him when you pick him up though.

  9. Yeah I have same feelings for Maze Runner! I didn't like it at all and while I enjoy the movies, I don't think I'm gonna continue with the books. Yes, do try Infernal Devices! It felt so different to City of Bones.
