The Longest Books On My TBR (Convince Me To Read Them)

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

I'm intimidated by chonky books. They tend to sit on my to-be-read shelf for months because I'm a slow reader. It takes me weeks to finish a fat book. Dedicating so much time to one book is a big commitment.

Here are 10 giant books that I'm working up the motivation to read. *

* Obviously, different editions of books will have different page counts. I assure you that all of these are chonks.

Books To Pull You Out Of A Reading Slump

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases

I'm currently in a reading slump. I have zero motivation to pick up a book, and when I try to read, I can't concentrate. How do we solve this problem? I honestly don't know. My current strategy is to slowly reread The Hunger Games books. I love that series and can easily get through a chapter or two a day. I'm hoping it sparks my interest in reading again.

What happens if The Hunger Games doesn't cure my slump? Here are ten more brilliant books that I'm considering rereading. Even if you're not in a slump, I recommend them.

The Saddest Books Of All Time

I recently finished rereading The Hunger Games for the millionth time, and it got me wondering: What's the saddest, most traumatizing book you've ever read? Which one left you emotionally scarred?

I'm barely human, but here are 10 books that (briefly) made me feel a human emotion. The kids, dogs, and parents die in these books! I'm warning you now!

Mid-Year Reading Check-In

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

The year is half over! Can you believe it? How's everybody holding up? Are you doing okay?

If you're reading this on the day it's posted, I'm in the middle of Hell week at work. July 4th is the busiest day of the year at state parks. Then it's the weekend, which is always chaotic at parks. Also, the fiscal year is ending (and beginning), and I work in the revenue department when I'm not dealing with traffic, tourists, problems, etc. Basically, the world is conspiring to kill me. I'm so tired.

Anyway, let's talk about books. I've read 26 of them this year, which is abysmal. Every year, I read fewer and fewer books. I miss reading! I just don't have time for it.

In better news, my book buying ban worked. In 2022, I decided to stop buying books until I read all the unread books on my shelf. I accomplished my mission in May 2025. I currently own 0 unread books. That's pretty cool. Let's discuss the best and worst of what I read.

Best Adventure Fiction Books

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

Since I don't have any real-life friends, I was chatting with an AI* about my favorite books. The robot pointed out that I really like adventure stories. I said, "You know, that's an astute observation. I should write a blog post about my favorite adventure stories."

So, here we are. Ten books about characters who go on adventures, either willingly or unwillingly.

*I'm both intrigued and terrified by AI. I'm the stupid white girl in every horror movie who can't stay out of the cursed house. I'm the problem. It's me.

Book Cover Design Trends: Horror Flowers

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

In honor of spring, let's look at flowers! Horror flowers, of course.

Have you noticed that book cover designs go through trends? One book becomes popular, and then every book copies its cover? We get whole shelves of books that look alike.

Right now, creepy horror plants are on trend. Let's check out 10 of my . . . um . . . favorites. (Calling them favorites is wrong. These are disgusting, friends. I hate them with passion.)

Here are 10 books that I'll obsess over until my heart explodes from eating too much nacho cheese. Enjoy.

Classics I'm Scared To Read

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

Last week, I talked about the classics I want to read. Now let's talk about the opposite.

I'm no stranger to classics and modern classics. I read a ton of them because I'm on a quest to become the most insufferably pretentious human on the planet. Even though I'm used to classics, there are still a few that scare me. I want to read them. I really do! I just have a feeling they'll suck. No one wants to read stuff that sucks!

Have you read any of these? Tell me they're worth my time. I need the motivation to read them.

Classics I Want To Read

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

For the past few years, I've been making an effort to read more classics. I end up hating most of them. That's okay because I do it for the sake of pretentiousness. I didn't enjoy reading War And Peace, but I love telling the whole world that I have read War And Peace.

Here are 10 classics I'm hoping to read soon. I want to read all of them for the exact same reason. They may not be my preferred type of book, but they're so popular that I need to know what the hype is about.

My Favorite Historical Fiction Books Ever

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

If I had to choose a favorite genre, I'd pick historical fiction. History is weird, and beautiful, and scary. There are so many interesting stories an author can tell. I learn something new every time I read a historical novel.

Picking my favorite historical fiction book is impossible. I don't have a favorite! I have a million favorites! No one wants to read a blog post about my million favorites! So, I narrowed it down to 10 books that live in my head rent free. I don't know if they're my all-time favorites, but I think about them way too often.

Best Books By Black Authors

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

Between 1950 and 2018, ninety-five percent of traditionally published books were written by white people. I'm not sure if publishing has gotten more diverse since this study was done, but I suspect not. Let's encourage change. Here are ten of my favorite books by Black authors. I hope you love them as much as I did.

Happy Valentine's Day. I'm In Love With A Sentient Object.

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

Okay, let me explain. Last month, I read over 200 "Best Books Of 2024" lists, and I noticed a trend. There are quite a few books about humans who love . . . stuff. Sentient objects. Literally any random thing. I had no idea this genre existed. Of course, I ended up in a Google rabbit hole that got deep and weird. My search history needs to be cleansed with bleach and fire.

I'm not here to judge anybody's love life, but as an EMT, it's my duty to warn you that not every object belongs in your butt. Choose your love interests carefully. Some of them will not love you back.

Here are some sentient object love stories I discovered during my . . . um . . . crucial scientific research. These are all real books. I have not read any of them. I don't plan on reading any of them. I just wanted to share because it's almost Valentine's Day! It's time to celebrate love!

Best Books Of 2024

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

Welcome to my favorite blog post of the year! These are the ten best books I read in 2024.

I seriously debated if I should put ten books on the list. I only read 52 books this year, which makes it my worst reading year in recorded history. I guess I can't complain. I crammed a lot of life into 2024. I think 2025 is going to be the same. Reading is definitely on the back burner. I miss being able to rot in bed and read for hours. Now I fall asleep if I stand still.

Putting 10/52 books on a "Best" list seems too generous for a cold-hearted witch like me. But, it's been a difficult year. Let's be generous. These books are excellent. I recommend all of them.

Here are my favorite books of 2024. I arranged them countdown style for unnecessary drama.

Drumroll please . . .

Books I Hope Santa Brings

All I want for Christmas is books! Actually, that's not true. I'm trying really hard to read the books I already own instead of acquiring new ones. However, I do have 4 books on my Christmas wish list. I know I won't get them because my family won't buy me books, but I can dream.
