Sunday is a perfect day for brunch. Feeding the rat demon is discouraged. |
The Sunday
Post is hosted by The
Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share
news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I shared some excellent small publishers that you should check out.
- On Thursday I reviewed Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton and talked about why characters need agency.
- On Saturday I answered 20 bookish questions.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I make nefarious plans to become the best fantasy author ever. This might be the stupidest blog post I’ve ever written, so I apologize in advance.
- On Thursday I review something. I’m way behind on writing posts, guys!
- On Saturday there’s a book haul.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finished Dread Nation by
Justina Ireland, and I’m about halfway through A Clash of Kings by
George RR Martin. This was another week of reading basically nothing. My
dog had a very vomity reaction to her arthritis medicine, and my mom is still
recovering from hip replacement surgery. Everyone is alive, but I’m exhausted.
I spent most of my week binge-watching Outlander
and trying to make a dog understand that loud, dramatic groaning won’t make
anything hurt less. It'll just keep everyone awake all night. Also, I have a lot of respect for doctors and veterinarians
and nurses. I’m too anxious to deal with all these small health crises.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things
that made me happy last week:
- Despite my hopelessness as a caretaker, everyone is still alive. That’s always a reason to celebrate.
- If you need to keep yourself awake all night, I suggest watching Outlander. It’s escapist, and you don’t need a ton of brain power to follow the plot.
- I made nachos. They were good.
- I managed to dust most of my bookshelves and added a bunch of books to the donation box.
- I’m looking forward to Dewey’s Readathon. If everyone is reasonably healthy, I’ll hopefully be able to get a lot of reading done.
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
I came up with a great idea for a novel last night during my insomnia but I don't know if I have the time to follow it through which is frustrating. I need to get some reading done tonight though!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to receiving an autographed copy of your debut novel.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the readathon.
I now want nachos. One must have goals and I think best fantasy author ever a truly pursuable one. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, dusting the bookshelves sounds like a task I need to do. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week. I've been curious about Outlander.
Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Sorry about your mom and your dog. I hope they feel better. I have been battling my emotions with my sister passing and now have my aunt home with me recovering from surgery on her hip. It has been a crazy few weeks. I hope your week is better. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteMary my #Sunday Roundup #15!
Poor doggie and poor you. I hope the dog feels better soon. Taking on a George RR Martin book is quite an undertaking. I fear books that big. I maxed out at about 700-ish pages. I fell behind on Outlander during the most recent season. I just don't seem to be that into TV lately. Good job keeping everyone alive. That's the most important part of care taking. And once again, you have me wanting nachos.
ReplyDeleteI really need to hurry up and watch Outlander! Everyone keeps telling me how good it is, and I really enjoyed the first three books, so I'm interested to see how they've adapted it. Have a good week! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for the stupidest blog post ever! XD I can't wait to see what you thought of Dread Nation and YAY OUTLANDER!
ReplyDeleteYour Tuesday post sounds fun- can't wait to read it! Sorry to hear about your dog- hope he is feeling better soon and less vomity. And hope your mom has a smooth recovery too.
ReplyDeleteClash of Kings- that's a big one. Hope you're enjoying it. Nachos rule.
My dog had a small episode this week too. Vets sure are expensive! He's better now and I hope yours is too. I keep meaning to start Outlander. Perhaps next week as I have a five day weekend coming!
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
Lol, I cannot wait to read your post on Tuesday! I will be thinking about you and your Mom. Have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteYay! You are watching Outlander. I am slightly obsessed by that show. I have read the books so it has been fun to see it acted out and I think they did a good job. I hope your mom and dog are better very quickly :) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI hope your mother recovers well and I'm sorry about the dog's reaction - looking after a poorly dog is never fun:(. As for Outlander - an excellent choice for escapist viewing:)). I hope this coming week is a LOT easier.
ReplyDeleteI laughed a little about being a hopeless caretaker. Sometimes, I don't feel responsible enough to have three kids, somedays I wonder how they are still alive. I'm looking forward to reading your post on Tuesday! I always come up with story ideas before bed and then wake up and I can't remember them. I should really try to write these ideas down. I hope your dog feels better!
ReplyDeleteTina @ As Told By Tina
I cleaned out my bookshelves too and donated tons of books. Have a great reading week!
ReplyDeleteVery happy to hear everyone is on their way back to good health :) It's never stress-free when a loved one is unwell, much less two at the same time. Wishing your mom and dog the best! Hope you have a wonderful (and restful!) week :)
ReplyDeleteI love Outlander and I'm behind on this last season. I need to find a way to watch it this week. I enjoyed Dread Nation and hope you like it as well. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor dog :-( Glad to hear everyone's ok though. Mmm nachos, I haven't had those in forever and now I want them!
ReplyDeleteHope your Mum and puppy gets better soon. My 14 year old Maltese just recently passed, they are such treasures.
ReplyDeleteHow are you liking the George R Martin book? Wanting to start Game of Thrones soon.
Angelica @ Paperback Princess
Outlander sounds so, so good! And your poor dog, moaning that much must = hurting bad. I'm glad everyone is alive though! ❤️
ReplyDeleteOoof, I hope everyone's health problems ease up so you can destress. It's tough to read when you are worn out.bHere's to a better week this week. 👍
ReplyDeleteOkay now I really want to see that post about you becoming a fantasy author. Even if you didn't get much reading done, you made nachos. So feel good about yourself! I keep watching all of Outlander even though I tell myself that it's getting increasingly dumb. I still can't stop!
ReplyDeleteIt is exhausting taking care of others, especially creatures that can’t adjust their conditions rapidly to my needs (aka, the elderly and infirm and animals and tiny children). I hope everyone will continue to get better and that you will be able to participate in Dewey’s next weekend. I’ll look for you there.
ReplyDeleteEveryone alive is a good thing. I bet you're exhausted, but Outlander can cure a lot.
ReplyDeleteI so need to have a clearcut of my shelves too, I barely have any space for anything! I feel like I'm really late to the party about Dewey's read-athon, but I may just have to join too! You also have me craving all the nachos now! I hope you have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a week! I hope everyone feels better soon. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSo difficult to care for an animal when you can't explain things in a way they understand. You completely have my sympathies and I hope your dog recovers soon - at least enough so you get to sleep
ReplyDeleteI love posts where the author thinks it's the stupidest one ever. Those are the greatest posts! :D
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week!
First off, sounds like dogs and kids are roughly the same when it comes to being sick. I've found I'm not that great at being compassionate in the middle of the night. Total mom fail. :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your dog, hope the situation gets better.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about nachos LOL. Now I want it even more.
Have a great week!
I also plan on participating in the Dewey Readathon, It will be a struggle because I have my monthly book club meeting that day. I hope your dog is ok, sending hugs
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
I hope your mom and your dog will both feel better soon! Outlander is awesome, I LOVE the Scottish accents and the story, of course. I read the first four books in the series, too. I'm curious about Dread Nation. Have a lovely week!!
ReplyDeleteRonnie @ Paradise Found
I hope you mom and pup get better soon. How did you like Dread Nation? I love the sounds of it but haven't read too many reviews on it.
ReplyDeleteI still need to sort out my donations. Unfortunately they're in boxes at the bottom of storage. Come see what I'm reading
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Outlander. I'm hoping to eventually get around to reading the books. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I've missed the Outlander bandwagon, but keep hearing such great things about it. I may need to succumb to it sometime soon. Hope everyone stays healthy.
ReplyDeleteOh, poor doggie! But glad that everyone is surviving! Yeah for Dread Nation! I've been meaning to read it! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt really is so exhausting taking care of others. I'm glad to hear that everyone is starting to feel better and wish them a speedy recovery so that you can relax a bit. I look forward to reading your thoughts on Dread Nation. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteNachos sound good. Yay for everyone still being alive. lol Hope you're having a good week so far :
ReplyDeleteI've found the posts that I worry about being stupid normally get the best reaction! Any week where you make nachos is automatically a success I think. I do kind of boring way of melting cheese over tortilla chips and then dipping them in salsa but it makes for a pretty satisfying dinner or lunch when it's just me and I'm hungry! Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteI miss reading ASOIAF - I might reread it, but the size of those books still scare me. I heard only great things about Outlander, but I have yet to watch it.
ReplyDeleteOMG I cannot wait for your review of Dread Nation! I'm still looking at it on my nightstand totally intimidated to read it lol
ReplyDeleteHope you dog feels better soon! poor thingy!
Nachos are the best. So is Outlander. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is starting feel a little better!
I hope your mother and your dog will feel better soon! I'm considering taking part in the Dewey readathon as well but I'm not sure if I'll have the time. Enjoy Outlander and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your fur baby, I always think it's weird to hear that noise they make when vomiting. It's so loud! Glad everyone is still alive :) Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the readathon too! Great fun.
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't so behind with catching up, I'd have signed up for the Dewey Readathon...hmmm
