I have a theory that cats make horcruxes when nobody is looking. How else would they get those nine lives? |
The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
Public Service Announcement
Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon is on
April 28! If you want to participate, sign up here. My dog is getting leg surgery
two days before the readathon, so I don’t know how much reading I’ll get done,
but I’m going to try.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Monday I reviewed The Complete Stories of Truman Capote by Truman Capote.
- On Tuesday I gave authors ten reasons why I hate their characters.
- On Wednesday I reviewed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.
- On Thursday I wrapped up March.
- On Saturday there was a book haul.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I review Rabbit Hill by Robert Lawson and confess that I’m confused by talking bunnies.
- On Thursday I discuss my reviewing crisis and decide what needs to change around here.
- On Saturday there’s a book haul.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I gave up on Dome of the Hidden Pavilion: New Poems
by James Tate. It’s a weird and funny poetry collection, but I wasn’t
sure what I was supposed to be getting out of reading it. Most of the
poems didn’t mean anything to me. They were just weird. After that, I read Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman. I didn’t
love this book as much as I loved Scythe,
but it’s still a solid sequel. Right now, I’m reading Dread Nation by Justina Ireland and A Clash of Kings by George RR Martin.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Dread Nation is one of the most hyped YA books of 2018. Get to know the author and her controversial Twitter account in this Vulture article.
- Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight shares some unfortunate international covers of popular books.
- Lili @ Utopia State of Mind talks about book blogger self-care over on NovelKnight.
- What the heck is mood reading? Kristen @ Metaphors & Moonlight tries to answer that question.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- My birthday giveaway ended! Thank you to everybody who entered. There were 740 entries.
- My mom finally got her hip replacement surgery. I’m not happy that she’s all puffy right now, but maybe she’ll be able to walk again soon.
- My dog is feeling better. Her arthritis got really bad for a while, but now she’s back to doing regular dog stuff. Yesterday she was enthusiastically humping my other dog, so I guess she’s not in too much pain. Nasty animal.
- Continuing with the health theme, I got awesome bandages for my feet. I’ve been running so much lately that my feet are really beat up. They’re all full of blisters and rubbed-raw patches. I got bandages to cover the painful spots, and when I opened the bandages, I discovered that they’re RAINBOW colored! Covering my pain in rainbows makes everything suck less.
- I got new books. I know I’m supposed to calm down with the book acquiring, but #NoRegrets.
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
Hope your mom is doing well after the surgery. And yay for your dog feeling better. #NoRegrets on new books ever. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteCovering yourself in rainbows really does make everything suck less.
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom is feeling better soon. Happy your puppy is back to feeling better and getting humped. :)
I am so excited about the read-a-thon. Even if I can only get to one full book, I still call that a win!
Have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading! :)
4. It shouldn't be like that. Not if your shoes and socks are fitting properly.
ReplyDeleteI need to get back to regular running. I'm sick of my current workouts and just want to run! I hope your mom is doing better.
ReplyDeleteYay I can't wait for Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon :) Take care and hope everyone feels better, and your mom is doing well.
ReplyDeleteOo rainbow bandaids sound awesome! Also you've given me reason #302 why I never want to take up running as a hobby-- biking doesn't give me blisters ;)
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate that you can find a bright side to blistered and bleeding feet. And yes, rainbows are all sorts of awesome. Happy healing to your mom. I hope she is up and about soon.
ReplyDeletethank you for telling us when the readathon is... I went right over to their site and signed up. I feel you on the blistered and raw spots on your feet. I am like i am supposed to feel and look BETTER right?!? Oh well..
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to do the Dewey, but I never can last through the wee hours. Might do a partial. Hope the healing continues well with you, dog and mom :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Curious Incident of the Dog and the Nighttime was something I read years ago and it really stayed with me. :)
ReplyDeleteSending lots of good thoughts to your mom and your dog! I hope they both have swift recoveries :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know about the readathon and I hope that your dogs upcoming surgery goes well!
ReplyDeleteRainbow colored bandages always make everything feel better. :) Hope you Mom gets to feeling better, and the puffiness goes away to. Hope you have a great week!!
ReplyDeletePretty band aids do make things better! I'm not a runner but I make bad choices in terms of shoes so my feet are usually beat up too. Yay for the readathon! I love the idea but have never made it actually happen. Maybe this is the time. Hopefully your mom is back on her feet soon. That's a long recovery process. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI might join that readathon... Enjoy your new books!!
ReplyDeleteRonnie @ Paradise Found
You've been reading a nice mix of genres and authors. I might try the readathon. Never done one and have no plans on that weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
Aww I want rainbow bandaids! Though it should surprise no one that I have kitty bandaids... what can I say, I never grew up! Hope your mom is healing well, and that all goes well with your dog as well.
ReplyDeleteYay for rainbow band aids! I agree, the more colorful the better. Have a good week! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom is doing well after her surgery. Walking is important! I am glad your dog is feeling better. I could not imagine running until my feet were in such bad shape but good for you. Rainbows are awesome! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHope your mom has a speedy recovery and glad your dog is in better spirits. Glad you are wrapped in rainbows. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLol I'm glad your dog is feeling better, and hopefully your mom will be feeling better soon too! And ooh rainbow bandages sound so fun! HAve a great week :-)
ReplyDeleteYour mom will be back on her feet once she's done rehab. Glad you're dog is better. Mood reading...I think it's quite similar to mood TV viewing. I'm a moody reader, but because of deadlines I can't always indulge myself.
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about Dread Nation, and I'll probably read Scythe pretty soon as I hear good things about THAT series too. Plus yay for Clash of Kings- hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to your mom for a quick recovery! And glad to hear the dog is, um, feeling better as well lol.
Have a good week. :)
I would totally sign up for the readathon if I didn't fail miserably at every single one I've ever signed up for! XD I hope your mom feels better soon and that your dog's surgery goes well! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Dread Nation.
ReplyDeleteThey are really good; I like how the ingredients are fresh and only one person makes them. My husband used to wear Asics when he ran but now he wears Hoka's. They look like Frankenstein shoes but his feet are more comfortable in them; he does get blisters though from running too; he's very particular about what socks he wears when he runs. I hope your mum recovers smoothly as well as your dog, LOL.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the upcoming surgery for your dog. Wishing your mom a speedy recovery. Be careful with all the running, try to avoid the black toe nails now that summer is coming :) At least your sporting some awesome band-aids. Enjoy your week and your new books.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, let me wish you a late happy birthday! I really want to join a readathon, but I know that'll be the day my kids have some sort of disaster. I only want to commit if I know I'll succeed ha ha. Wishing your mom a quick and easy recovery!
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom is doing well. And those Rainbow colored bandages sound very cool. Every bandage should come in that color.. and I'm a nurse so I should know. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and happy reading.
I have never been able to get into poetry at all. I think there are only two I ever liked and both of them were at school when we had to read it! I'm not much for plays either come to think of it!
ReplyDeleteYou must be pretty much drowning in books by now?
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous! And of your rainbow bandages, that's a fabulous happy idea
I love the Sunday Post graphic!
ReplyDeleteThe articles you've posted look very intriguing. (I've already right-click new tabbed them.)
I also want to read Dread Nation! I'm not big on YA, but the premises sounds promising. I've also never been a poetry reader. I just don't understand it.
I hope your mom is feeling better soon and am glad your dog seems to be doing well. :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I suck at readathons but yay for rainbow colored bandages!
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteLol I loved Rabbit Hill! No surprise there for me though, as Watership Down is my favorite book. I guess I am ok with talking bunnies. Lol. I'm looking forward to your review!
Sending good thoughts to your puppy! I have to admit I'm kind of afraid to read Dread Nation because it's getting so much hype. That usually doesn't bode well for me. Talking bunnies? I have that book and might have to dig it out!
ReplyDeleteHow are you liking Dread Nation?? I'm so keen on trying it but I'm not that into zombies so I'm a bit cautious about reading it. Hope your mom feels better soon! And yay for your dog feeling better already! Also I totally need rainbow bandages.
ReplyDeleteDread Nation is on my list too! I may be able to participate in the Readathon this year. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a busy week. Rainbow bandages sound like fun. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. God! How come I've never thought about that before?! Cats *do* make horcruxes!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating in Dewey's as well. It will be the first time I have a blog to document the whole thing so I'm pretty excited! ^^
I'm also looking forward to your Thursday discussion, sounds interesting and I might learn something.
Happy belated birthday Aj!
I wish a speedy recovery to your mom and your dog.
Take care.
x, L
Awesome Sunday Post!! I'm hoping to participate in this next week!!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do the Dewey's readathon, but it is the same day as my in-person book club so we'll see!
Never feel bad about acquiring books! They are always awesome!
Tori @ In Tori Lex
The read-a-thon! I have yet to participate officially. One of these days...It's still a ways out, but I do hope the surgery for your dog goes well. You've reminded me it's time for my cat's check up. I hope your mom has a smooth recovery.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the saying go something like you can never have too many books? :-) I hope you enjoy your new ones! I hope you have a great week!
I am glad your dog is feeling better, and your mom has a speedy recovery. It's hard to not buy books, I know!! Good luck with the readathon-I can't do it as I have to work!! Have a great week!!
ReplyDeletehttp://justmeandmyblogreviews.blogspot.com/2018/04/its-monday-what-are-you-reading_9.html
I hope your mom is feeling better soon and that your dog's surgery goes well. I also look forward to seeing what you think of Dread Nation.
ReplyDeleteSounds like everyone is one the healing end of things. That's good. Take care and have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI read Rabbit Hill ages ago. I don't remember much of it. I had a busy day today with my mother, so I'm running late with visiting. Come see what I'm reading
ReplyDeleteOoooh I see some posts I must read! I'm so glad to hear your dog and mother are recovering nicely!! I don't know how people do 24 hour readathons, but good luck!!
ReplyDeleteHope your dog's surgery goes well! And some pretty awesome books :) Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI hope to try the readathon this time around too. :)
ReplyDeleteTen reasons why you hate their characters...bummer I missed that one. The cover of Tate's book is really odd. Guess it makes sense that the collection was weird too.
ReplyDeletePraying your mother heals nicely and that your feet do as well. Thanks for visiting my blog today.
Hope your dog gets through the surgery okay!
ReplyDeleteHope your Mum improves.
ReplyDeleteThat your feet feel better and that the dog does well.
