If you're reading this on a beach right now, I'm envious. Also, what is that dude staring at? Her knees? How scandalous! |
The Sunday
Post is hosted by The
Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to
recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What
Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I reviewed Rabbit Hill by Robert Lawson and confessed that I’m confused by talking bunnies.
- On Thursday I discussed my reviewing crisis.
- On Saturday there was a book haul.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I share some excellent small publishers that you should check out.
- On Thursday I review Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton and talk about why characters need agency.
- On Saturday I answer 20 bookish questions.
In My Reading Life
My
brilliant self decided that it would be a good idea to read two big books
during a week where I was very busy. As a result, I finished 0 books last week.
I read about 250 pages of A Clash of Kings by George RR Martin. I
also read around 350 pages of Dread Nation by Justina Ireland. One day last week, I
was so tired that I ended up watching Independence
Day when I should have been reading. Screw the books; sometimes you just
want to see young Will Smith make stuff explode.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Veronika @ The Regal Critiques offers suggestions for controlling your TBR.
- Laura @ Boats Against the Current wonders if you like duologies.
- Danielle @ Books, Vertigo & Tea talks about authors who nailed it with fictional villains.
- Sophie @ Beware of the Reader wonders if social media is a curse or a blessing.
- Chuckles @ Chuckles Book Cave lists some YA books that adults will enjoy.
- Angela @ Musings of a Literary Wanderer asks if it’s hard to review your favorite author.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- Thanks for all the nice messages about my dog and my mom. My mom got her hip replaced two weeks ago. She’s still really swollen, but she’s doing physical therapy and is walking on crutches. My dog’s leg surgery is scheduled for next week.
- Last week, I published my 900th post on this blog. Can you believe I’ve written 900 of these?
- The blog reached 600 Bloglovin’ followers. (Thanks for following!)
- Fossil hunters identified the jaw of a giant dinosaur whale.
- If you're going to get arrested, please make it hilarious. Maybe I’ll come down. Maybe I won’t.
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
I still have to watch the sequel to Independence Day...along with a ton of other stuff!
ReplyDeleteSOmetimes definitely need a book break and watch nonsense. Also congrats on 900 posts and 600 followers! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your mom is better and good luck to your puppy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your followers and posts! That's Great!
I hope you have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading!
I *heart* Will Smith. I didn't get much reading in last week but I will try for more this week. Good luck to your mom and the pup. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI know what it's like to take on such big books, I still wanna tackle a few of Stephen King's volumes but I'll do it from the comfort of an audiobook. I'll be having a few audiobook narrators over on my blog later this week if you're interested. Love your pics on your #sundaypost theglobaldig.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLOL... Maybe I'll come down - maybe I won't! I'm rolling around laughing my head off. Bloke was clearly absolutely hammered:)). Thank you for the lovely video.
ReplyDeleteI hope your mother continues to make progress and that your dog's surgery next week goes smoothly. In the meantime, have a great week, AJ:)
Wow, I had no idea Dread Nation was such a chunker. Good luck making progress this week.
ReplyDeleteWill Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Harry Connick Jr? Always a good idea. :)
900 posts! Daaaaamn. That's a whole lotta blogging, lady.
I didn't realize Dread Nation was so big. I hope you are loving it.
ReplyDeleteI think he was checking out her ankles, which was pretty scandalous. Wow! 600 bloglovin followers. Congratulations! I aspire to get better numbers, though I know wordpress is the place to be these days. XD
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get these awesome retro pics xD they're all so similar! I'm always so impressed! You really know how to keep a style together :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, if it makes you feel any better - I was actually busy reading one 600 page book and Obsidio. Which is probably also something like that. You're not alone :D
HaHaha That photo of Zoidberg is hilarious! As for the dude in the photo... he's probably wondering why her feet and legs are black. LoL Something's not right there.
ReplyDeleteKristin @ Book Sniffers Anonymous
20 bookish questions? That sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying A Clash of Kings - I am patiently waiting for the next book in the series.
I hope your mom will fell better and I am sure your dog's leg surgery will go well.
Oh, now you got me excited about your 20 bookish questions post! I've been reading The Silkworm during the last two extremely busy days and as a result I'm only at page 140...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on writing your 900th post and reaching 600 followers!
I hope your mum will feel better soon and your dog's surgery goes well!
I'm so curious about Dread Nation -- how're you finding it?
ReplyDeleteI think we all were kinda of tired this past week. I liked Dread Nation, so I hope you are enjoying it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAh I love that pic! Scandalous indeed :) Good Morning Midnight was a book that appealed to me for the cover and the premise, but then I read something negative and skilled it. Will definitely want to check your review and see what you think!
ReplyDeleteNice discussion post this week. And oh my gosh that video- made me laugh so hard! When he starts going up and is like "Come and get me. How bout that?" i about lost it. Is this for real lolol??? "Come on up fatty?"???????????? And yeah don't mess with his beer for heaven's sake.
Great post about your reviewing crisis. I feel the same way. For now, I decided not to accept many blog tour reviews that have specific dates. Maybe that will help. We'll see. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe heart wants what it wants—and sometimes it's a popcorn movie and some quality couch time! Congratulations on the follower milestone, it's very well-deserved ♥
ReplyDeleteOMG. Your meme about accomplishing nothing was hilarious. Literally my life. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you finish a book, and thanks for visiting Shell's Stories!
That video was a hoot! And so was the gif. I feel like that a lot. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
900 posts, wow! Thank you for the shout out!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading Dread Nation on my Kindle and I feel like it's been taking me forever. I had to stop so I could finish another review book and a library book, and now I'm back at it. I"m liking it, but it's long! Next up is Refugee!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
You accomplished reading 600 pages, that's great. I'll keep an eye out for your upcoming bookish questions. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up about Dread Nation being a doorstop.
ReplyDeleteI think my new life motto is going to be, "Maybe I'll come down; maybe I won't!"
Hope your mom and dog both heal well.
I'm excited to see your review for Good Morning, Midnight! That's a book that really got into my head, although I didn't quite realize it until later. it left me with so many questions, too!
ReplyDeleteYays for The Clash of Kings! I read The Song of Ice and Fire books back to back a few years ago, I spent months 'living' in Westeros, haha. It was kinda amazing. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteRonnie @ Paradise Found
I totally get it that sometimes one gets tired of reading and just needs to chill with a fun movie. I've done that many times too.
ReplyDeletei am so looking forward to Dread Nation.. Love me some zombies!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 900th post! That's fantastic (and insane - that's SO MUCH WRITING TO DO).
ReplyDeleteLove the image at the top... and I am reading this on a beach. Sorry ;-)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week!
I read so many books on my Kindle that I often don't know that I've been sucked into a big book until I start wondering why it is taking me so long to finish a book. I just pulled A Clash of Kings from TBR mountain to donate. I know I'll never get to it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteomg I love that video of the dude getting arrested. I don't know how many times I've seen it, haha.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on ALL of the things AJ!
Totally nerding out about the National Geographic link!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your mom and dog!
Also - I'm always busy too, setting a goal to read two books is ludicrous :D
I'll probably never read George R.R. Martin's books, because I fear these really large books. I'll want to get through them quickly, and can't.
ReplyDeleteI made it through all the Martin books on *audio* -- many, many hours ... but all enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteYou read 600 pages. That ain't nothing. Come see what I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter actually told me a while ago that I should try to focus on short books during the work week so I feel like I am getting things done. She is a smart one! All I need to do is actually listen to her. I hope your mom's recover and dog's surgery goes well.
ReplyDeleteGlad your Mom is feeling better. I think that dude is staring at her feet. Foot Fetish maybe? LOL Thanks for the great links. Do you know when I was a young adult and had a tight budget I would look to buy books with the largest page count. LOL
ReplyDeleteLiked your post.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out your post about small publishers. I have a love/hate relationship with long books. They make it hard to get read as many books as I like and they can be slow unless I'm really into them. I hope this week goes well!
ReplyDeleteTressa @ Wishful Endings
You are sooo right! Sometimes we need to kick the books aside and watch a DVD *lol* Wishing you and your dog that everything will go well with the surgery and my well-wishes for your Mother.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Vi
I completely agree that sometimes you just have to say screw the new books and watch TV or a fun movie instead. I should be reading tonight but instead I'm going to watch Pitch Perfect for about the 30th time, lol.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on reaching 600 followers on bloglovin!
My brain keeps mutinying and I find myself reading when I know I really need to reading. Will Smith making stuff explode is pretty much the visual equivalent of comfort food. Congrats on 600 followers! That's fantastic. Hope your mother is feeling better, your dog's surgery goes well, and you're having a great week!
