Top Ten Tuesday: Most-Read Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is top ten most-read authors. These numbers probably aren’t accurate because I just counted the books by each author on my “Read” shelves. This list should probably be “Most-Owned Authors.”

My Most-Read Authors

10. Laurie Halse Anderson – 4 books: I’ve read The Impossible Knife of Memory, Twisted, Wintergirls, and Speak.

9. Ellen Hopkins – 4 books: I’ve read Burned, Smoke, Rumble, and Tilt.

8. Rick Riordan – 5 books. I’ve read the first Percy Jackson series and own the box set.

7. Cassandra Clare – 5 books. How did I end up reading 5 Cassandra Clare books? I don’t even like Cassandra Clare’s work. Has anyone else read a bunch of books by an author you don’t like? Am I just weird?

6. John Green – 5 books. I’ve read all of his novels. I haven’t read any of his short stories.

5. Gary Paulsen – 6 books: I own Hatchet, Brian’s Winter, The River, Dogsong, Winterdance, and My Life in Dog Years. I know I read more Gary Paulsen books when I was a kid, but I don’t remember which ones.

4. Dan Brown – 6 books. I think I’ve read all of his novels. I loved the first few and hated the last few. I’m not sure if I’m going to read any more of them.

3. J.K. Rowling – 10 books. I’ve read Harry Potter many, many times. I’ve also read The Tales of Beedle the Bard, The Casual Vacancy, and Very Good Lives.

2. Margaret Atwood – 16 books. I’m not going to list all of these. I’ve read a lot of her novels and short story collections. I’ve also read some of her poetry, but I don’t think I’ve read a full book of it.

1. Stephen King – 38 books. I own 38 Stephen King books, and I’ve read all of the ones I own. I have no idea how many I’ve actually read in my life. When I tell people that I’ve read a ridiculous number of Stephen King books, I’m not lying.

  1. I had John Green On my list as well. I still haven't read any of his short stories either. I have read a little of Stephen King, Dan Brown and JK Rowling (I have only read her Robert Galbraith)- Great list!

  2. Nice list! I had Rick Riordan and J.K. Rowling too (I didn't remember Tales of Beedle the Bard, though--my total for Rowling should've been 8, not 7.)

  3. I'm slightly jealous of how many Stephen King books you've read. I have only read Shining and Doctor Sleep. I really need to read more but there are too many to choose from

  4. Haha! I can't say I've read many books by authors I didn't like... I read Clockwork Angel back in the day and didn't really enjoy it, but I am planning on giving that series another chance since everyone loves it and I own it. I really want to read something by Margaret Atwood... I'm not sure why I haven't! Off to the library!

    Here are my Top Ten!

  6. Funny about Cassandra Clare... and you don't even like her. LOL I had a couple surprises, too. Like Danielle Steel. Seriously? Ack.

  7. I've definitely read a lot of books by authors I don't like! That is such a lot of Stephen King, I've always been quite nervous to read his books for some reason

  8. JK Rowling should be on my list also, as well as Rick Riordan but my list was getting kind of monstrous so I made a lot of cuts. Apparently I like to binge read lots of authors works.

  9. I'm amazed to know that you've read 38 books by the same author ! But Stephen King has been around for a while and, unlike some authors who shall remaing nameless, doesn't take forever to write, I hope I'll get to this point with some of my favourite authors !

  10. I'm only familiar with half of the authors on your list, AJ, and Stephen King is one of them... I haven't read quite as many as you have, because I get too scared by his specific kind of horror now, but I used to love them when I was younger :)
