The Sunday Post #137

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review Lungs Full of Noise by Tessa Mellas.
  • On Tuesday I list some books I’d bring with me to a deserted island.
  • On Wednesday I review Bird Box by Josh Malerman.
  • On Thursday I’m giving away a book of your choice! Come back on Thursday to enter.
  • On Friday I wrap up February.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Missing May by Cynthia Rylant. Then I DNFed What is Not Yours is Not Yours: Stories by Helen Oyeyemi. That book has too many characters and too much rambling for me. I wasn’t enjoying it. Right now, I’m reading Scythe by Neal Shusterman and The Complete Stories of Truman Capote by Truman Capote.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me laugh last week. (Olympic curiosities edition):

1. Norwegian ski jumper Robert Johansson wins the gold medal in mustaches.

2. Streaking isn’t just for summer sports.

3. A small suggestion to make curling more interesting.

4. Another small suggestion to make curling more bearable to watch.

5. Why is this not a sport?

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. Ugh, the dreaded DNF. I hate when that happens. Those Olympic memes are hilarious, those Ostriches lol. Have a nice week!

  2. I hope you loved Bird Box as much as I did!

  3. I've DNFed a lot in the last two weeks which is disappointing but it does get a few books off the total TBR. I'm getting ready to read a couple where I've liked others in the series so that should be a good end to the month. The winter olympics watching has put a dent in my reading time though!

  4. That's too bad you didn't like What's Not Yours-- I haven't read it, but I have heard good things about it. However novels with big casts are always hit or miss with me.

  5. Boo to a DNF. But love all the Olympic funnies! Have a great week!

  6. So will it be books that are good to re-read?

  7. Sorry you had a DNF but it's better to DNF than read a book you aren't enjoying.

Those gifs are funny! I also believe Ostriches Skiing should be an olympic sport.

Have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading!

  16. Sorry the book by Helen Oyeyemi didn't work out for you, I also don't care for rambling in books. I just started to dnf books, I figured I'm old so I better not waste my time on books that I'm not enjoying. Thanks for the great laughs about Curling, I watched plenty of it this time around :) Have a wonderful week AJ.

  17. It took me a while to learn that it's okay to DNF a book when I do not enjoy it.

    And yes, more Olympic memes!
Also am I the only one who finds curling highly relaxing and entertaining? It is true that I usually read during it.

  21. I cannot wait to read your review for Bord Box. I really loved that book. I had a few DNFs this past week too. It happens. I haven't been watching the Olypics at all. WE don't have real cable, and I have no time for tv these days. Thanks for sharing the funnies. Are you enjoying Scythe? I bought a signed copy for my daughter and really hope she lets me read it.
    Have a great week!

  25. That's a bummer about What is Not Yours is Not Yours. I think I've seen enough negative comments about that one to finally remove it from my TBR. Thanks for sharing the hilarious Olympic vids. Gave me a good laugh!

  26. Lungs Full of Noise sounds like a crazy read! I will have to check it out. Lol.

Also, that dude's mustache is amazing. We commented on its majesty as well. Lol.

  27. You know, I just love curling. I loved your GIF's, they cracked me up however curling is a sport you just don't see that often except at the olympics so I always get a kick since you NEVER know who will win on that one because it can go either way.

  28. Have you seen the video of curling while wearing dinosaur costumes? My weekly update

  29. That certainly would make curling interesting!
