The Sunday Post #118

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review Company of Liars: A Novel of the Plague by Karen Maitland.
  • On Tuesday I talk about what I’d eat if I was fictional.
  • On Wednesday I review The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Touching the Void: The True Story of One Man’s Miraculous Survival by Joe Simpson. Then I read The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel and Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham. Right now, I’m reading The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. It snowed, but not enough that I had to shovel.
  2. The animals are getting their winter fluff. I saw floofy prairie dogs, floofy deer, and a floofy coyote.
  3. New books!
  4. Have you checked out #ShatteringStigmas? It’s about mental health and YA books. You should especially check out my post on the subject.
  5. John Oliver talks about Confederate monuments. It’s a long video, but it’s funny and he has some good points.

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. I need to stock up on the cheap salt in case we get any snow this winter. Postmen love me for ensuring my path is safe to tread on!

  3. Snow?! I got excited when the temp /finally/ dropped below 80 degrees here. But also I'm not ready for the whole snow and ice thing just yet.

  4. I want to read The Stranger In The Woods. Looks eerie. You have snow already?! It's been 90 and steamy here all week. Have a cold front going through right now and raining cats and dogs. It's supposed to knock temps down to 80. I'll take it. LOL

  6. Floofy animals are the best animals! :)
I do like snow but we only get it high up on the mountains in winter (in Victoria, Australia). Snowy & sunny days are the best days :) I remember them fondly from growing up in Germany. Unfortunately muddy snowy&rainy days were more common :D

I watched that John Oliver episode as well and agree - he does make some really good points.

  7. ::Settles in to watch John Oliver:: I LOVED the lead in, that was perfect! Omg this is so, so good. Also dying at Anderson Cooper's reaction to his ancestor being killed! Stephen Colbert popping in was the BEST! Anyway, his points are definitely fabulous!

Wait, it SNOWED!?! I could not live there because I would have cried. Thanks so much for the shoutout to Shattering Stigmas, and also for being an amazingly fabulous guest poster! Also curious about Dreamland Burning, I have heard good things, I hope you liked it!

  8. Yay- snow!!!! Kidding. But actually I wouldn't mind a little snow, if it just dusted the ground and didn't make the roads slippery. I'm probably setting too many conditions. :) But yeah I always like the first snow.

  11. Snow? The weather guys here said it was a possibility but it didn't happen. It can wait until December as far as I am concerned. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  13. I don't think I've read The Edible Woman...how did I miss it? I think it sounds so familiar that I keep passing over it, thinking I HAVE read it.

I'm curious about The Stranger in the Woods.

  15. I had my air conditioner on all last week and you had snow. I would like it to be a little cooler, but I think I would melt down if it snowed here in October. Glad it made you happy though

  16. What did you think of DREAMLAND BURNING? I was really excited to read it, but in the end it was just an okay read for me. I don't know anyone else who has read it ...
