The Sunday Post #168

"Onward camels, we have havoc to wreak!"

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I review some fun books about brutal murder.
  • On Thursday we discuss real-life monsters.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished rereading Vicious by V.E. Schwab. I still love that book. If you like anti-heroes, superpowers, and intricate murder plots, you need to read Vicious.

Right now, we’re in the middle of Fraterfest Read-a-thon. I did really well with reading on the first day. Then I started slacking. I’m about halfway through Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. It’s true crime. So far, it’s extremely well-written and extremely slow.

In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. My preordered books finally arrived! They were delayed for no reason. Protip for online bookstores: If I preorder a book, it’s because I want the book on release day, not a week after release day. If I wanted it a week late, I could have hauled my lazy ass to Target and bought the thing.
  2. I joined a writing group. Hopefully this will motivate me to write stuff. And to talk to people.
  3. Nachos!
  4. I’m winning at #bookstagram. I’ve posted a photo every day in October so far.
  5. It’s supposed to snow 5 inches this week (which I’m not happy about), but it gave me an excuse to wander around and take pictures of pretty trees. The snow will ruin them.

Clicking Is Good For The Planet

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  2. I've got into V.E. Schwab's work as well which surprised me because I'm not one for fantasy. Happy Sunday!

  3. Berendt's book is sooooo very slow, but it's also remarkably atmospheric which I love in a book. And that Schwab book is going straight on the wish list.

    1. I finished the Berendt book. I liked the second half a lot more than the first. It actually had a plot!

    1. I was annoyed. I hardly ever preorder books. I made time to read them, and then they showed up a week late, so now they have to wait.

  5. I'd be really upset if my pre-ordered books were late. I was upset when Wildcard was sent by UPS and didn't get to my house until 4 PM ish, LOL. I ended up buying a second copy for my Kindle so I didn't have to wait. Which actually worked out because my boy is reading the duology now and I don't have to lend him my only copy.

    1. I’m glad it worked out! I was not happy when release day came and my preorders didn’t.

  6. I hate waiting for books that I've ordered...but in my case, they were pre-ordered, but coming from places like the UK and took a while.

This week I got the long-awaited Open Your Eyes by Paula Daly. Can't wait to read it!

I keep eyeing those Schwab books, and while they don't seem like my kind of read, I am curious.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  10. I don't really register the length of books these days, given I read a lot of stuff on my Kindle, but I have read all the Harry Potter books. I hadn't realised they were so long! I've just read her latest Robert Galbraith book, which was also reasonably long at over 600, but loved it.

    1. I mostly read physical books, so my wrists definitely know when I’m reading a big book! The Harry Potter books read so fast that they don’t feel long.

  12. Wow! Five inches of snow already. We had frost and a few people saw some snow flurries this last week, but we're just supposed to get a little more rain--and maybe have some sunny days! We've gotten so much rain that our grass and many of our trees are still bright green!

I hope you have a wonderful week and if you get that snow that it goes away quickly.

  13. I'm still so torn over whether to read Vicious. I love anti-heroes but I am not into superpowers or hero books at all. :/ Good luck with the read-a-thon! Very brave of you to start with non-fiction! And thank you so much for including my blog in your recap! I hate it when pre-ordered books show up late and it's really why I only tend to order from Amazon. Have a great week!

    1. There are no heroes in Vicious! Everybody is . . . well . . . vicious. The powers aren’t a huge part of the story. It’s mostly about a rivalry between two guys who betrayed each other.

  14. Kind of jealous of the snow, in NJ it snows but not so early, most of the time we get like 24 inches in one day and then nothing else.

  25. Yeah, the one time I pre-ordered a book, I got it about a month after the release date. So now I just use it as an excuse to get to the bookstore.

Snow, huh? I remember my first year in college, in Vermont, we got our first snow on Oct. 4. We are still having sunny days in the 60s here in western Oregon, and I'm glad, since our next step is not snow, but rain.
