On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I talk about what makes me love a book blog.
  • On Thursday I talk about some useless mythical creatures that need more attention.
  • On Saturday I show you a stack of books I got from a random lady.

In My Reading Life

I didn’t read much last week because I had a Denver Five Things pass. I spent the week doing things outside of the house instead of reading.

I finished Pull Me Under by Kelly Luce. The premise sounded interesting. The main character murdered someone when she was a child. As an adult, she moves from Japan to the US and tries to create a new life for herself while keeping her past hidden. I got frustrated with the book. The narrator is bland, and I felt like I was always several steps ahead of her. I got irritated with her for taking so long to spot what’s obvious and do something about it.

Right now, I’m reading The Possessions by Sara Flannery Murphy. I’m not loving this one either. It’s too slow for me, and (currently) I don’t understand the narrator’s motives.

In My Internet Stalking Life

Like I said, I was busy last week, so I didn't get much blog hopping done.

In The Rest Of My Life

The five things I did with the Denver Five Things pass:

  1. I went to the zoo and saw zebras humping. The other animals were pretty awesome, too.
  2. I went to the science museum and learned that there are a lot of rocks in the world. And I saw a mummy.
  3. I went to the airplane museum and learned that I really don’t care about airplanes.
  4. I went to the botanic gardens and wandered through some nice Japanese gardens. I saw a rainforest plant with leaves that were taller than me.
  5. I went to the aquarium and didn’t get soaked by the flash flood simulator. As a kid, I went on many fieldtrips to the aquarium, and we’d always stand by the glass so we’d get splashed. I behaved like an adult this time.

I’m On The Social Medias . . .

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  5. Thanks for sharing, and I don't enjoy narrators who are bland, either, especially if I don't understand their motives.

I loved your five things...they made me smile.

I'm not a great fan of aeroplanes either. Congrats on adulting at the aquarium!

  9. That five things pass is kind of cool. Animal porn, airplanes, science, fish, and flowers - sounds like a good time to me, and 4 out of 5 isn't bad.

  10. I'm sorry you're not liking The Possessions! The Five Things pass sounds awesome, though - all my favorite kinds of places to visit! Botanical gardens are always so fun.

  12. Your five things was fun. Zabra's humping. LOL I used to avoid the monkeys because of that very thing! I get what you mean about a dry narrator. I almost gave up on listening to a series because of that. But, the second book and the rest had a different narrator and he was great!

  15. Sounds like a good time with your 5 day pass. The zoo is always fun especially when the zebras put on a show for you :) Glad you acted like an adult at the aquarium (but sometimes it is fun to still act like a kid). Have a great week!

  18. Bloglovin has decided to only randomly send me notification so I feel like I've missed a lot. I'm going to have to use my feed on their site instead of depending on email notifications. *sigh* A bland narrator/main character is never good. What is there to make me care? "I went to the airplne museum and realized I don't care about airplanes." Bahaha! Yeah, doesn't sound like the most thrilling museum.

  21. Urg! I do find it annoying when the narrator ignores what is right in front of her for the sake of the narrative arc on the assumption that readers are braindead numpties who have never read a book before... I do love the week of activities you had. That rainforest excursion sounds fabulous! I hope the coming week is just as good, if a tad quieter...

    1. YES! Not seeing the problems was probably supposed to increase the tension, but it didn’t. It just made me wish that the character would hurry up.

  28. Wow! It sounds like there are a lot of fun things to do in Denver! The zebra humping might take some explaining to children but that's definitely not something you see regularly. Too bad about Pull Me Under. It sounds like a great premise but I think the narrator would drive me crazy. Have a great week!
