The Sunday Post #133

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis.
  • On Wednesday I review Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey.
  • On Thursday I wrap up January.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished The Dumb House by John Burnside and The Last One by Alexandra Oliva. Right now, I’m reading Bird Box by Josh Malerman and Lungs Full of Noise by Tessa Mellas.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. I finished a massive work project. For the first time in months, I actually have time to do me-stuff. Like work on the blog. And dust my rooms.
  2. I briefly caught up on my Goodreads challenge and on writing reviews. Now I’m behind again on both, but it was great while it lasted.
  3. I finished reading all the 2017 wrap-up posts. There were so many of them that I just started copying links and saving them for later. If I haven’t commented on your 2017 wrap-up or “best books” posts, please leave a link in the comments. I’d love to check it out.
  4. I cleared a massive stack of books out of my closet. Now I have credits for more books. The never-ending cycle continues.
  5. The ice from the last blizzard is mostly melted. Walking the dogs yesterday didn’t feel like a near-death experience.

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  2. Yay for finishing your project at work. It's always nice to be able to get something off your plate. I feel you on being temporarily caught up on challenges, etc. I'm caught up at the moment as well, but I know it won't last. Hope you have a great week!

  3. I hope you get some new great books with your credits!

  4. Congrats on finishing your big project! And I really enjoyed your review of A Conjuring of Light—at least, the parts I let myself skim! I haven't read any of VE Schwab's books yet, but I have several on my TBR. Each review makes me want to read them that much more :)

  5. Congrats on having a little free time! And for briefly catching up - I am so behind on reviews. It's my new goal to get them done in the next two weeks or so. Lol. We will see though I guess. :)

Our snow and ice is all gone for now. It is warm today, and feels like spring. The next snowstorm is going to feel like a betrayal. Lol.

  6. I want to read The LAst One- sounds really good. And sorry to hear Agents of dreamland was kinda weird. I was drawn to the cover of that one, and the premise- sorta- but after reading your review I'm pretty much nope on that one lol.

  9. Yeah for being caught up on your project and getting some me time! I'm liking the look of both The Dumb House and The Last One. I was also caught up on blogging and now scrambling to get ahead again. A never ending cycle. LOL Have a great week.

  10. That is wonderful you had some free time, even if you spent some of it dusting. Those reviews seem to sneak up and turn into a bigger list. Have a great week.

  11. The exhilaration of being caught up on reviews is always so short lived. It's my goal to not fall behind, because my reviews suffer when I do. Glad you are getting some "me" time. It's always nice and renewing. Ooh, new books are good. Especially if you are using credits to get them.

  12. I think I've got The Last One lurking somewhere on my ereader...I seem to recognise that cover. It does feel like a never ending cycle...I spend my time clearing space in my bedroom or the ereader, only to fill it with more books!

  13. Stay safe walking those dogs! You seem to be as busy as I am!

  14. Yay for "me time"! I hope you get to enjoy it! I can relate to the massive amount of 2017 wrap-up posts---I still haven't gotten to them all!!

  15. We lost a lot of our ice too. Now it's cold again and snow is predicted. I'm glad your big project is finished and now you have some me time. Good luck catching up on those reviews. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. I JUST got Bird Box! Just arrived in the mail on Saturday, but I won't be getting to it for a while. I have about five books in front of it, patiently waiting for me on my nightstand. I'll be looking forward to your review!

  17. How nice that your big project has been finalized so you have time for other things now, Aj! And yeah, staying on top of everything is never easy.
I'm glad walking the dogs didn't become a health hazard! We haven't really had much snow this year, but it's so gray and humid, which makes it feel pretty cold.
Have a wonderful week and happy reading.

  18. I hear you on the blizzard front. We had fairly mild weather last week but the two weeks before were horrid. It wasnt the snow that was the problem it was the ice and we have a puppy who is a puller so walking is always a near death experience. Though she has improved. Hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by my sunday post!

  19. bwahahaha!! I snorted on your last comment about walking the dog being a near death experience. I'm such a bad dog-mama; I don't even try in this nasty weather! Granted, my dog is 13 and he'll be more sore from all the slipping and sliding so I'm doing him a favor (yeah, right) but it's a scary mess out there today!!

And yeah.. reviews... it's all good, though. Just keep reading, just keep reading :) Have a great week and enjoy your work freedom!!

  20. You had a productive week! I know you're happy that your large project is behind You, and yay for getting caught up (temporarily). I'm barely staying on top of reviews.

  21. I love that feeling of being caught up on blogging + reviewing.... even if it's just for a fleeting moment. Yay for big work projects and book credits....hope you treat yourself to a few good reads :)

  22. I hope you're enjoying your books. Have a great week!

  23. I'm adding the Dumb House to my wishlist. Obama, An Intimate Portrait
    The Historic Presidency in Photographs

  24. It's great to have time to do me-stuff. :-) The ice here too has mainly melted although in some areas I still walk like I'm 90 to avoid falling.

  25. I loved Bird Box! I was surprised I liked it so much since I don't usually read horror. Happy reading!

  26. I’m only 3 days behind in commenting this week. Go me! :)
Hooray for finishing the work project! I completed a big one back in late Nov/early Dec and it was such a relief. Getting back to the regular routine was heavenly. I am perpetually behind on reviews these days. I used to be practically militant about reviewing immediately after finishing a book and I’m afraid I’ve got rather lazy about it. Bad Tanya.

  27. Yay for finishing the work project, it's always good to finish something big like that and then you get this free time and you realise you can do what you want a bit more. And that's always how it goes. I am so behind on my blog stuff but I'm just rolling with it. And being behind on reading? That's cool too. I luckily got ahead of my Goodreads challenge but I'm sure I'll fall behind again when I get distracted by other things. I totally wish I'd cleared out a few more books, I;m working on being better at letting things go.
