The New Year’s Book Tag

This tag originated on BookTube, but I first saw it on As Told By Tina. I realize that most of us have already given up on our New Year’s resolutions, but I’m still pumped for mine, so let’s do a tag.

The New Year’s Book Tag

How Many Books Are You Planning To Read In 2018?

My Goodreads goal is set at 100, but I’m not doing great so far. One hundred should be challenging but accomplishable.

Five Books You Didn’t Get To In 2017 but are making a priority in 2018?

I’m pretty excited for these:

I know this is six, not five. Shut up. I've never been good at math.

What genre do you want to read more of?

Middlegrade. I feel like I neglect that age group. I should probably read more poetry, too. I read lots of classic poetry in school, but I’m not too familiar with the current stuff.

Three non-bookish goals for 2018?

  • Run 10k without exploding.
  • Make more money so I’m not broke all the time.
  • Travel somewhere interesting.

A book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

This question is tricky because I got my TBR pile down to 0 in November 2017. Almost all of the unread books I own now were bought on Black Friday, so I haven’t had them “forever.” The book that’s been on my TBR list the longest is Son by Lois Lowry. I put it on my list in March 2013. Still haven’t read it.

One word that will define your 2018?

One word? For the entire year? My first thought was Nachos, but the question probably wants something more profound than that. (Also, nachos are always my first thought.) Okay, let’s go with Change. That’s profound and slightly cryptic, right?

  1. Ha Nachos is a great word for the year!!! Salt to the Sea was such a wonderful book. Hope you get to it and enjoy it. Good luck with your non bookish goals!

  2. I mean, always nachos. And four books is not a bad start to the year; GR can suck it!

And I hope you adore Scythe! I'm seeing the author tonight!

  3. I think Nachos is a perfect word for the year. I support it 100%. I started but didn't finish Salt To the Sea because it expired before I could finish it but I was enjoying it what I read. Good luck on your non-bookish goals! I wish I could just run 1 mile without exploding, I'm aiming for baby steps on behalf but cheering you on!

  4. Now I want nachos. My co-blogger keeps telling me I need to read Scythe, so it must be really great. Oooh! I want to make more money too (good one). Good luck with the 10K, and I hope you get to go somewhere awesome.

  5. I'm hoping to get to Salt to the Sea this year too. It has been sitting on my TBR for way too long.

    Mmmmm, nachos....

  6. Looking forward to your Ruta Sepetys and Helen Oyeyemi reviews. Those two look particularly like books I'd enjoy :-)
Good luck on the rest of your challenges too. I'm still pretty much up on mine!!

  7. Slightly hoping to read 100 books this year, too, but I'm heading off to uni so I'm not sure if my reading schedule can handle the big change! I'm thinking about reading Scythe, too, just because Neal Schusterman's mind is an intense place to be in!

  8. 100 books is a very ambitious goal but I know you can do it! I'm trying to read more poetry this year too and definitely always trying to make more money too because I'm also always broke :) Good luck!

  9. Yum nachos! LOL. I'm planning on reading 100 books, but I'm not going to stress about it. Good luck on your goals. :) ~Aleen

  10. I really love Scythe, Salt to the Sea, and The War that Saved My Life. Not as blown away by Wolf Hollow as I'd hoped to be. I don't know the other two--they must not be kidlit!

I think "Nachos" would be an EXCELLENT "one little word."

  11. Idk, I think nachos is a FINE answer. Hell, I want nachos to define my 2018 too! Change IS cryptic though, and now i am so curious, so nice work there :) READ SCYTHE. I want to read Bird Box and Salt to the Sea, too- both have been on my TBR (and in my possession) for ages!

  13. I love your nachos thing. I guess that's not profound enough, but I love that you threw it in there anyway. :-)
