The Sunday Post #150

Grab your top hat and your evil twin; it's time for The Sunday Post.

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I review Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson and talk about that awkward moment when you relate to insufferable characters.
  • On Thursday I share some of the oddities I’ve discovered inside my email inbox.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. I liked it. You can tell that it’s Backman’s debut novel. It’s funny, but it’s also repetitive and predictable. I’m still reading A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. Good thing I love this series because this book is so freakin’ long. I’ve read about 800 pages. I have another 300 to go.

In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. NASA discovered organic material on Mars. It’s not aliens, but it’s slightly closer to aliens.
  2. I discovered that there are Instagram accounts that post photos of fancy chocolate desserts. (My discovery is almost as impressive as NASA's, right?) I didn’t know that I needed chocolate photos in my life. #Chocolate
  3. Watching the Stanley Cup finals. I wanted Las Vegas to win, but I didn’t care that much. I used to watch tons of hockey, but it took up too much of my time, so now I only watch playoff games.
  4. Nachos happened.
  5. The neighbors put up a new fence! The old one was 30 years old, and it fell down because the neighbors’ German Shepherd is auditioning to become the Kool-Aid Man.

Stalk Me Everywhere

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  2. Hurray for almost-aliens!! And of course, hurray for nachos! I'm so excited for your emails post! Have a great week!

  3. I wish you had video of that dog-kool-aid man moment. Most important question about your Instagram find: If they take pictures of the chocolates, do they get to eat them?

  4. I'll be interviewing Cait on my blog next week, so keep an eye on it on Tuesday :)
Wait, NASA did what? Woah :O thanks for sharing! I totally missed it last week (busy week).

  5. I just finished A Man Called Ove this week too. It was my first Backman book so I'm looking forward to reading more from him. I think I'm going to try Britt-Marie Was Here next.

LOL! Visualizing that dog trying to be the Kool Aid is going to have me giggling for hours, I can just feel it.

  6. Gosh I can't imagine reading 800 pages and still having 300 to go! I want to read A Man Called Ove this year. Mmm nachos! Have a great week!

  7. I'm struggling a bit with A Man Called Ove. It went back to the library only half read/listened too and I wasn't all that sad about it. I'm already on the list to get it back so hopefully my attitude will be better! I didn't realize it was Backman's debut. That's too funny about the neighbor's dog. Hopefully the new fence will keep him in. Have a great week!

  8. The Storm of Swords is such a monstrous read. Good grief takes forever to get thru that thing. :) I saw that news on Mars too- that's pretty exciting.

Lol about the Kool-aid man (er,dog). Too funny. And nachos- yum! I feel like finding good nachos is becoming a lost art? Like some of the Mexican places I used to go have gone out? I mean I could make my own, but why? Actually though... that sounds kinda good...

I'm the same way with hockey. They play too many games, but the playoffs are fun.

  9. LOL about the Kool Aid dog...very funny, but they get a new fence out of it :) Hope you have a great week!

  14. Um... I want to know these oddities. Spam mail always gives me a laugh though.

Haha on the Kool-Aid man audition, XD. I wish I could see it though, because it would probably be more amusing (or maybe I'm just not as visual there. Oops.)

  16. One of my neighbors has a wooden fence and their dog kept at it until he got a board loose and now sticks his head out to look at my dogs. Fun!

  17. LOL with the sheppard. I have never watched hockey. Who doesn't love chocolate and a nachos day.. Yes, please. Have a great week of reading!

  18. Nachos are always awesome. I commend you for focusing on such long books, I tend to shy away from them because they take so much time.

  20. What I really want to know is, did the neighbor's dog get a call back to be the new kool-aid man? (I mean dog). Nachos are awesome, my favorite nachos are sold at our local Minor league baseball team and they're called Border Nachos and they are delicious. (AND NOW I'M HUNGRY!). Big big books scare me so kudos for actually reading them! I quit before I even start.

I hope you have an awesome week!

  21. Nachos and chocolate? Double yum! Inbox oddities are always an entertaining read, can't wait for your post :) Hope you have a great week!

  23. Fancy chocolate desserts?! That sounds a little too tempting. :-) Yay for new fences! We need to either get a new one or re-enforce ours on the one side. The neighbor's dog has visited us a few times in the last couple weeks, surprising me or my husband when we go out there. He isn't the most friendly dog either, so it's not exactly a welcome visit. I look forward to your post about Jacob Have I Loved. I read that when I was growing up and still have my copy on my shelf. I hope you have a great week!

  24. We veganized some nachos this week! They were delicious and effectively sated my craving for cheesy goodness. <3

  25. I always mean to read literary magazines and never get to them. That's why I dropped some of my trade journals too. So much to read. So little time.

Didn't watch the Stanley Cup finals this year either. Just couldn't care about who won this time around.

Love the Kool-Aid Man gif. Hope you have a great week.

  27. Hockey is one sport that I never watch. I only like the penalty shoots!

  28. I haven't really be into hockey since I was in high school and our team won State four years in a row. I tend to like watching baseball these days. Cute story about the neighbors dog! Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  29. The Golden Knights had an incredible season--even though they didn't win the Stanley Cup, they should be proud.

  33. Jacob Have I Loved is one I always meant to read when I was younger and never got around to it. Maybe when I run out of non-fiction, haha

  34. I remember the moment I suddenly found myself relating to the MC in Jacob Have I Loved. I came so close multiple times to DNFing that book. My weekly updates

  35. Insta pics of chocolate? I might be the lone wolf who would *not* drool over this. I think I was born without a sweet tooth. I'm a freak of nature, I know.

  36. In the minority where I am not going ga ga over Backman. Read the first, tepid towards it read another. Same.
    Enjoy your week.

  37. I did read A Man Called Ove and want to try Bear Town to see if I want to read any more of his. Enjoy your reading this week.

  38. Now I want Nachos! We only watch hockey when the Penguins are in the playoffs. Pretty much that's it. We're more of a football family. I think the Kool-Aid man SHOULD be a German Shepard. It would make me want to buy more Kool-Aid. I've been meaning to read some Bachman.

  39. I follow NASA with all three of my Twitter accounts (blog, music, personal) so that I never miss anything, ha ha; and yes, it is AMAZING! 🌌

I have been warned to not start my Backman journey with Ove because I will be disappointed, but I think I will because if I read his excellent writing first, I'll be even more disappointed. Ha! 📚

I have spent many a morning off cruising the food photos on IG! Lately my preference has been guinea pigs, but I am certain I will be back to fancy desserts again any day now. 🍰🍮🍧

  40. Aww thank you for linking to my post about my book!! *heart eyes* And YES you are absolutely on par with NASA's aliens with your discovering of chocolate dessert instagrams. This saves lives. I'm 100% tempted to go look but also this will make me starving and it's like 9:30pm...do I dare.😂😂
