September Snapshots
1. What even happened last
month? I’m
staring at a blank blog post and realizing that I did nothing in September. I worked. I read. I blogged. I watched
terrible horror movies. I read terrible news stories. I basically did nothing for 30 days. Go me.
2. Oh! I made (very
practical) plans for what I’ll do if I ever get rich. Last month, I hosted my
first-ever giveaway on the blog. The winner was Cait @ Paper Fury. I liked
hosting the giveaway, so if I ever get rich, my blog will be all giveaways all
the time. I’ll basically be the Oprah of books. “You get a book! And you get a
book! And you get a book!”
3. I won’t ever get rich
because nature is still plotting my demise. I ran three days a week in September. On one
of my runs, a squirrel jumped out of the bushes right by my foot. I literally
almost tripped over a squirrel. I’m glad I didn’t trip because then I’d have to
tell people that I hurt myself falling over a squirrel.
A few weeks after my near-squirrel-tripping, I was running
along a barbed-wire fence, and there was a herd of deer grazing on the other
side of the fence. I was like, “Oh, look at the pretty deer!” Then one of the
pretty deer suddenly jumped over the fence and almost landed on top of me. What
the hell, nature?! I know I look like a stampeding buffalo when I’m jogging,
but why are the animals running at me
instead of away from me?
4. I’m way too spoiled for
this. The
water in my neighborhood broke. Again. This has been happening every few
months. There’s nothing like waking up on a cold fall morning, turning on the sink, and having gallons of mud shoot out. Then the water gets shut off, and
we don’t have any water at all for the rest of the day. I’m a squishy
first-world girl! I like frequent hot showers! And I whine while manually
dumping water into the toilet so I can flush it.
Fixing the water. Again. |
5. Life is like a
Hitchcock movie. Have you seen the Hitchcock horror movie The Birds? My life sounds exactly like that movie. There are flocks
of migrating blackbirds hidden in the trees around my house. I can’t see them,
but I hear their nonstop squawking. I’m waiting for them to swoop down and peck
me to death. I know they’re plotting something. Nature is always plotting
something.

What did you do in September?
I would love to be rich. It'd be awesome. OMG, how do you deal with all these water outages? That's crazy. I always feel myself melting down when things that are *supposed to* work just don't.
ReplyDeleteThe water outages are tough. I’m too spoiled to live without a shower.

Love your pictures. I would love to be able to just do giveaways all the time. Maybe on day. Ans I seriously hope nature gives you a break!!! Looks like a greta reading month. Hope October is as good!
ReplyDeleteThanks! All giveaways all the time would be the best blog ever.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh my gosh being the Oprah of giveaways would be amazing wouldn't it? I would love to just spread the love like that! And water outages are the worst. And I work in Public Works but trust me, I feel your pain! Nice to "meet you" - visiting from Eli's 6 words post. :)

Nice to “meet” you! I’ll check out your blog.

Lol, have you always lived in a rural-ish place, or did you move there? I've lived in the countryside for most of my life and I always sleep so much better when I can hear birds (or rain, dogs, cows, sheep, horses, and/or the motorway.)
ReplyDelete(Also, squiggles (squirrels) always throw nutshells at my mother 'cos they think she's a cat!)
I’ve always lived in a rural-ish place. Nature just hates me.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ha, fair enough!
DeleteI shouldn't have laughed at nature plotting against you but I did and I feel terribly sorry about it. I hope nature is much nicer to you in October.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It’s snowing right now, so I’m safe from nature. I’m staying inside today.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love, love, love your wrap ups! I think nature is telling you to stay inside and read another book! :) But please don't, I look forward to your nature adventures! Here's hoping that the fall season treats you well!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It’s so cold right now that reading a book in front of the space heater sounds like the best thing ever.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love the nature/landscape pictures shared in the beginning... It's a wonder you managed to capture them what with nature plotting against you lately :-P
ReplyDeleteSeptember sounds like it was a great reading month for you. Wishing you much the same for October!
Haha. I had my dogs with me when I took the photos. Nature seems to be scared of dogs. It only attacks me when I’m alone.

I love giveaways so much, but it's SO hard to do them if you don't have a ton of disposable income! :/ I'll look forward to the day you're rich! Haha! I'm really interested to see what you thought of We Are Unprepared. I had a copy but I think I gave it away? It sounded super interesting, but there were a lot of mixed reviews. I hope your October is great!
ReplyDeleteTracy @ Cornerfolds
I didn’t love We Are Unprepared, so I guess I’m one of the mixed reviews. I’m also looking forward to the day I’m rich.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Doing nothing for 30 days sounds amazingly relaxing though (without those horrible news stories then).I would love to do more giveaways too but no job is no money. ._.
ReplyDeleteDoing nothing is great, but it makes writing wrap-ups very hard!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Your real life stuff was very funny, mostly the squirrel with the bazuka xD (or whatever that is!) Haha, thanks for making me laugh :D I hope October is better! I also need to do more bookish stuff in October to catch up with the yearly goals :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you’re able to meet your goals.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Maybe you think you did nothing in September, but you did write a hilarious wrap up post. Thanks for the laughs.
ReplyDeleteSuch peaceful and lovely photos. September seemed to slip by, didn't it? I didn't get nearly as much done as I hoped. I hear you about getting rich. I keep hoping I'll win one of the big prize lotteries. But then I remember I don't play.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great October!
Winning the lottery would be the best thing ever. Maybe I should start buying lottery tickets. I don’t see myself getting rich any other way.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think Nature has it in for you at the moment. Maybe it's because you uncovered the evil blackbird world domination plan...If I won the lottery, I can tell you that Amazon would be receiving an order for ALL the books!
ReplyDeleteIf the blackbirds want to take over the world, they totally could. There are so many of them! I uncovered their evil plot, but I’m powerless to stop it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Love your little photo shots! Glad you got some much needed relaxation!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Monthly Wrap Up!

I am thinking that this post is exactly why I don't jog...it sounds really dangerous. Glad you were able to outwit the squirrel and the deer. I love the photos! Have a great October!
ReplyDeleteYes, jogging does seem like a very dangerous activity . . .
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I also run--but most of the year in the dark of predawn (squirrels apparently prefer sleeping in and aren't up at this time). This morning I saw 3 deer, but none of them attacked me. I see opossums, raccoons, foxes, owls (first time I heard a screech owl I got instant goosebumps as they sound ghoulish to me), and way too many skunks. Hope your October is going well.
ReplyDeleteAwww what pretty pictures! All of our trees are now in the orange/red colors this week and it's so gorgeous everywhere. And LMAO! At least you have non-threatening animals that you run into when out running. I've come across coyotes quite a few times and a wolf once, so now I jog with a taser. I don't want to have to use it, but they're not always the nicest of creatures *hides face*. I just keep hoping I don't ever run into a bear, those are way too big to see outside of a car ya know!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that the squirrels, deer and birds are plotting against you. You obviously must stay indoors. :-)
