The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a
chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s
Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book
Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Monday I reviewed Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters.
- On Tuesday I showed you the series I’m procrastinating.
- On Wednesday I reviewed Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys.
- On Thursday I did the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag.
On The Blog This Week
- On Monday I mini review some poetry collections.
- On Tuesday I show you the best books I’ve read so far this year.
- On Wednesday I review A Manual for Cleaning Women: Selected Stories by Lucia Berlin.
- On Saturday there’s a book haul.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finished The Girls by Emma
Cline and tried to read A Fortune-Teller
Told Me: Earthbound Travels in the Far East by Tiziano Terzani. I read more
than half of it before I DNFed. The author/narrator got on my nerves. One of my
pet peeves is when a person gets the opportunity to do something amazing and
then complains nonstop about it. To research this book, the author got to spend
a year meandering through Asia, but the book is just him complaining about how
modern and touristy Asia is. No thanks. After I DNFed that one, I started Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- I’m on a hiking trip right now. Hopefully I’m taking lots of photos to show you.
- It was my dog’s birthday. My baby is 9. Honestly, I forgot it was her birthday until the day after, but I don’t feel too bad because she doesn’t know it was her birthday.
- Remember the #NeilCake hashtag on Twitter? It raised $111,771 to help refugees. Thank you to everyone who donated.
- Speaking of refugees and Twitter, my review of The Optician of Lampedusa has nearly 300 pageviews. That’s an insane number of views for a review on this blog. Most of the traffic came from Twitter. If you’re interested in the refugee crisis, I strongly recommend reading The Optician of Lampedusa. It’s very short, and you’ll learn stuff.
- New John Green Book? What?
Take care of yourselves and be kind to each
other! See you around the blogosphere!
I was pretty excited to hear about John Green's new book, and I'm especially intrigued by the really random title!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a good hiking trip :)
I like Year of Wonders. I hope to reread it at some point in the future after I crawl out from under the mountain of tbr books!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see pictures from your hiking trip! I was excited to hear about John Green's new book too. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your pictures of your adventures. Also, the poetry reviews; you don't often review poetry on here.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting pretty interested in The Girls, cause everyone seems to be blogging about them now.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week :)
I saw that John Green news and that's pretty exciting. I love the title- kinda quirky but the subject sounds great!
ReplyDeleteBummer about the Asia book, I wouldn't mind meandering through Asia for a year. Pretty sure I wouldn't complain too much... lol
Yay! I'm so happy that John Green is making a new book! I can't wait to read it!

The complaining travel memoir is a definite no for me as well. I've only read one John Gree book. It's been a busy week with a cracked toilet, day camp, and paperwork for cross country. Come see what I'm reading
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at "A Fortune-Teller Told Me," but after reading your thoughts, I think I'm going to pass....
ReplyDeleteHi AJ - enjoy the hike ... while the Optician of Lampedusa does sound like a necessary read and one I will get to - I've noted it. John Green's book sounds like an interesting read with lots of personal insights that will shed some light on mental illness - we can all learn more. Cheers and enjoy the coming week -Hilary
ReplyDeleteI have never read anything by John Greene. I like his videos though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your pup! I hate that about Fortune Teller - I felt much the same way reading Cheryl Strayed's Wild. She drove me batty, but I'm also the only person I know who felt that way! Enjoy your hike!
ReplyDeleteGreat video from John Green. I must admit that I've only read one of his books, The Fault in Our Stars...but I also have a copy of Paper Towns waiting.
ReplyDeleteThe new book sounds awesome!
I enjoyed The Girls.
Thanks for sharing, and have a great week. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Have fun hiking! Hope the weather is great and you can squeeze in some fireside reading.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see photos from your hiking trip. It sounds like your dnf was really a downer of a book. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAll your books are new to me so I like the update. Enjoy your adventure.
