The Sunday Post #82

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review The Middle Ages: Everyday Life in Medieval Europe by Jeffery L. Singman.
  • On Wednesday I review Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi.
  • On Thursday I wrap up January.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Sex with Kings: 500 Years of Adultery, Power, Rivalry, and Revenge by Eleanor Herman. Then I reread part of When Prophecy Fails: A Social and Psychological Study of a Modern Group that Predicted the Destruction of the World by Leon Festinger, et al. (Why do nonfiction books need such long titles? It seems unnecessary.) Right now, I’m reading Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick. (A fiction book with a nice, short title.)

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. Rereading books. Sometimes I forget how much I like doing that.
  2. Modern medicine. I still haven’t been able to get my prescription refilled. This is teaching me how miserable life would be if medicine didn’t exist. Medicine is awesome, guys. Be grateful.
  3. I saw the movie Capote. I liked it. It made me want to track down a copy of In Cold Blood. I read that book several times when I was a teenager, but I don’t know what adult-me would think of it.
  4. National and state parks. I’m glad that I’ve spent so much of my life hanging out in these places.
  5. Walking. It’s literally freezing outside, but I walked a lot last week. I think I spend too much time on the computer. It messes with my mind.

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. Nonfiction books totally have giant titles. I am actually going to try and reread a little more this year. Hope you can get your prescription filled soon. Have a great week!!

  2. A few items of medicine I get have had manufacturing delays recently which has prompted me to invest in a book of alternative medicine and home remedies as a just in case measure. It's getting harder to get hold of some of the essentials which I find worrying.

    1. Yeah, delays suck. I should probably look into natural alternatives and see if they work.

  3. I also wonder why nonfiction books have to have long titles. Just make the title short and easy!

    1. I know! It makes the titles really hard to remember. I have to look them up every time I blog about the books.

  4. Oooh! I can't wait to see what you think of Revolver! I had such a weird experience with Midwinterblood, but I'm very curious about his other books. Have a great week! :D

  5. I've always been fascinated with the Middle Ages and love reading nonfiction about them- some anyway. Curious to see what you think of that one. And lol about titles- so true. :)

    1. I’m interested in the Middle Ages, too. It’s a strange period in history.

  6. Rereading -- I wish I had time for more....

And walking -- good for you. I spend too much time looking at a screen too!

    Enjoy!

    1. I have so many unread books that I probably shouldn’t reread, but I really like it. I always notice more on the second time around.

  7. Glad Capote was good. YES, all hail medicine! You made me giggle, yes non-fiction and long titles go hand in hand.

    1. I wonder what’s up with the long titles. A lot of them don’t seem necessary.

  8. It's warming up a little here in Austin, Texas so I got some walking in too! I've been sedentary all winter and it's been awful :( I motivate myself to warm up by taking books with me and taking pictures of them when I find scenic spots. :)

    1. Yeah, I spend way too much time sitting on my ass. I take my dogs when I’m walking, and they don’t have much patience for picture taking.

  9. Non-fiction titles are long aren't they?!?! I love to re-read books. I have found that I pick up on a lot more the second time around. Good for you for getting your walking in. Have a great week!

  10. I hardly ever reread but I always enjoy it when I do. I'm actually doing a reread of a favorite right now in the hopes it will snap me out of a reading slump.

  11. Hope you've been able to get your medicine situation resolved---I guess it does make you grateful for the things you have! LOL!

  12. I've really got to do a January wrap-up, just don't know when I'll have the time! Maybe this weekend. I don't have a lot of time to re-read these days, although I have a couple favorite books that I keep around my bed or my living room couch, and then I'll pick them up sometimes when I just have a few minutes to read. Thanks for visiting my Sunday Post at Lisa Loves Literature earlier.
