The Sunday Post #58

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review She is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick.
  • On Tuesday I show you some books I’d buy if I had money.
  • On Wednesday I review Misery by Stephen King.
  • On Thursday I wrap up July.

In My Blogging Life

I have eye problems, and they were especially annoying this week. You guys would totally laugh if you could see how massive the font on my computer screen is right now. When I proofread this post, I’m going to have to scroll for years. That’s how big it is. I think I did okay with commenting on other people’s blogs, but I’ve been neglecting the comments on my own. I read them, I promise. Replying just isn’t happening.

In My Reading Life

I kinda had a terrible reading week, and I can’t even blame my eyes for it. First, I DNFed Say You’re One of Them by Uwem Akpan. That’s my second DNF of the year. I decided to stop reading because the stories are unnecessarily long, and the dialect got on my nerves. Then I read Dracula by Bram Stoker. I wasn’t a fan of this one, either, but I finished it. Up next is Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. I bought books. Shh, don’t tell my book-buying ban.
  2. I got HBO. What should I watch?
  3. Playing fetch with my dog on a day when it wasn’t a million degrees. Incessantly throwing a tennis ball is slightly more pleasant when I’m not sweating like a fat kid chasing an ice cream truck.
  4. Chimichangas.
  5. I made myself a schedule, and I actually followed it. I love it when that happens.

I hope you had a great week! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. You should send your dog over to me - maybe we can train them to play together and we don't have to throw the ball insistently. I saw your post on the DNF's - nice one. I love the fact that you read so many older books and review them. Sure I've mentioned it before, still thinks its cool! 1. I have 2 dogs, and they still make me throw the ball. What we both need is a dog that can throw its own tennis ball. :)

  2. I can't wait to read your review of Misery! That's one I've always wanted to read, but just never got around to it. I'm looking forward to your review of Dracula too! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. :/ That seems like one where the retellings might be better than the original! Have a great week :D

    Here's my Weekly Recap!

    1. I loved Misery. Dracula was a massive disappointment. I expected so much more from that book.

  3. Loved your post on DNF'ing. I do it on occasion and to be honest I haven't read Brandon Sanderson's stuff because I didn't think it would be for me, even though people rave. So interesting that you DNF'd Mistborn. And I like your equation- that's a good way to look at it!

As for HBO, I just have HBO Now but I recently watched The MArtian and the two Maze Runner movies, but that's about it. I end up watching Netflix more for some reason...

    1. Yeah, DNFing Mistborn is an unpopular opinion, but I just didn’t get along with the writing style. The Maze Runner movies are on my list of things to watch (even though I wasn’t a big fan of the books).

  4. Yay for buying books even if you are on a ban!!! You should totally watch Silicon Valley on HBO. So funny!

  5. I like the variety of books you read. I also have trouble marking a book DNF. I usually throw them back on TBR mountain to try another day. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks! I’m trying to get better at DNFing. Life is too short to read bad books.

  6. Sorry to hear about your eye problems... so frustrating for a reader. I've never read Dracula, but feel like it's one of those books I 'should' read. Say You're One of Them was a DNF for me, too.

  7. Oh my gosh, Misery! That movie is one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen! I can't remember if I've read the book.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear you are having eye problems. That has to be one of my worst fears. What if I couldn't read? Oh dear. Let's hope you are better soon.

    1. Thanks! My eyes are fine right now. Eyestrain and blurry vision are really annoying for someone who reads as much as I do.

  10. I keep having to zoom in on many blogs to at least 125% and sometimes as much as 175. I think my laptop came with an extra wide screen because I have to do that on almost every blog, and my eyesight isn't that bad. I hope your eyes feel better this week!
