In My Reading Life
Last week, I finished After Zero by Christina
Collins. It’s about a girl with selective mutism who’s trying to find out what
happened to her brothers. It reminded me why I don’t need to “see myself” in
fiction. Let’s leave all the unpleasantness in real life, shall we? I liked the
book a lot, though. It’s well-written and full of family secrets. One of
the best books I’ve read so far this year.
Then I read The Science of
Breakable Things by Tae Keller. Another great book! It’s about kids trying
to win an egg drop competition. The characters made me smile.
Right now, I’m reading Allegedly
by Tiffany D. Jackson. Why did no one warn me about the descriptions of bodily
fluids? Gross, guys. The plot is slow currently, but I think I’ll like this
one, too.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Annemieke @ A Dance With Books recommends books for Epilepsy Awareness Month.
- Ella @ Novelly Ella talks about the less-than-awesome parts of being a bookworm.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that made me happy last week:
- Free pizza!
- It was an excellent reading week. I enjoyed everything I picked up.
- I got new books. (Shhh, don’t tell the old books.)
- I’m so close to getting caught up on book reviews. I have 3 left to write. Then I have to do a better job of staying on top of this madness.
- You still have a few days left to enter my giveaway. Thanks to everyone who has entered so far.
Stalk Me Everywhere
Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around
the blogosphere!
*grins* My old books get jealous when new books arrive too!
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, I feel so bad for neglecting the old ones! Some books just sit on my TBR shelf forever.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Selected Mutism,Now that's something I need, lol. I made the terrible mistake of telling someone yesterday that I thought they were married before their husband, smh.
ReplyDeleteHaha, selective mutism might have solved that . . .
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay for pizza and new books. I desperately need to catch up on reviews!!! Have a great week!n
ReplyDeleteHow do reviews pile up so quickly? I can never catch up.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free pizza always makes my day. =D Good luck writing the three reviews you have left. I don't think I'll never catch up on reviews.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! ;)
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
I don’t think I’ll catch up either. I’m now 5 behind. I guess I read too fast.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hahaha I am glad to know you nearly caught up on book reviews! I try to write them as I read or I forget the details and I am unable to write them! Happy Sunday AJ!
ReplyDeleteThat’s one of the problems I’m having. I waited so long with some of them that I’m struggling to remember what I read.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free and pizza are two of my favorite words! Hooray for new books! I'm off to order some new ones myself!
ReplyDeleteThose are my favorite words too! I’ll never turn down a free birthday pizza.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
After Zero sounds really interesting! I am good with not "seeing myself" in books too. :) And free pizza! Can't beat that!
ReplyDeleteAfter Zero is really good. I don’t know why it doesn’t get more hype in the blogosphere.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
After Zero sounds so intriguing, I'll have to check it out! And congrats on almost being caught up on book reviews,I admire you so much. It's so easy to get lost in this madness, like you said, there are just too many books and ahhhh not enough time hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have a lovely week!
I’m constantly behind on reviews. I’m trying so hard to catch up, but I’m just falling farther behind.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free Pizza is the BEST PIZZA!!!
ReplyDeleteI get new books all the time my old books have lost track so they stopped complaining.
I hope you have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading! xx
Haha, I feel so guilty when I get new books. The old ones have been sitting around unread forever!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have my eye on After Zero. It's a good sign that you enjoyed it. I liked The Science of Breakable Things. I loved Nat and her squad, and SCIENCE! I questioned her father's certification as a therapists though, with the denial going on in his household.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn’t really understand what was happening with her father. He seemed to have a lot of unresolved issues with his mother and his ancestry.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope your old books don't read your blog. Both of those books look interesting. I've seen people try to do the egg drop thing before.
ReplyDeleteI think my younger sister did the egg drop in school, but none of my classes ever participated. I wanted to drop an egg off a roof!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Well I'm so glad that you had all the good books this week. I find it easy to read and harder to get all the reviews written. Have another wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
That’s exactly my problem. I’d rather read than write reviews, so the reviews pile up quickly.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh wow After Zero sounds pretty good! And pizza is always a win
ReplyDeleteAfter Zero was surprisingly good. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm all for leaving unpleasantness in real-life too! Glad to hear After Zero was a hit. It's easy to read the books, but writing the reviews can be tough. Yay for getting ahead. I'm trying to do the same. :)
ReplyDeleteIt takes me so long to write reviews! Sometimes I wonder why I do it because not many people read them.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The Science of Breakable Things is on my wishlist. My weekly updates
ReplyDeleteGreat news on getting caught up. The Science of Breakable Things sounds fabulous. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeletehttps://thebookconnectionccm.blogspot.com/2019/04/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-april-1.html
It is a really fun book!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I read Allegedly when it was a new release and I loved it! I hope you will too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I entered your giveaway. :)
Thanks for entering the giveaway! I really liked Allegedly.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Getting new books is always a cause for celebration 🥳
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week
Shelleyrae @ Book’d Out
Thanks! New books make me very happy.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
My old books definitely get jealous when the new books arrive as they know there is a finite ammount of shelf space ;)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte Burt's Books
Haha, same here. When new books come, old books need to leave.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free pizza and new books sounds like a good week to me!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week! :)
It was a good week. Food and books are my favorite things.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ooh, free pizza and new books! All of that sounds wonderful. You read some great books this past month!
ReplyDeleteSo far, I've been really good about writing a review almost as soon as I finish the book. Now, if I could just get caught up with everything else in my life, that would be amazing... (*stares hard at the laundry and dishes*)
I wish I could write a review as soon as I finish a book. I don’t know why I can’t. I guess I like procrastinating.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free pizza! New books! Caught up (almost) on reviews! Yay you.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I’m trying.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free pizza and new books. Sounds like a winning combination!
ReplyDeleteIt is! Pizza and books are my favorite things.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ooh free pizza. Yum! I really need to get caught up on reviews, and just blog posts in general. I really want to schedule ahead as much as I can instead of floundering every week. LOL
ReplyDelete-Lauren
www.shootingstarsmag.net
YES! I do way too much floundering with this blog. I just want to be ahead for once!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Looks like you're doing lots of great reading lately! Hope you have another fantastic week!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Thanks! I have read a lot of good books recently.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I like how the old books get jealous of the new ones...lol. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks! My old books have a good reason to be jealous. Some of them have been sitting around for a year without me touching them.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I so get the being behind on book reviews!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I read a lot faster than I can write reviews.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free pizza and new books -- definitely a win-win week! :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree. It’s hard to beat books and free food.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh yeah. Allegedly can get gross but sooo engrossing (see what I did there).
ReplyDeleteHaha. I agree that the book was both gross and engrossing.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
New books and free pizza would make my week too! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was an uncommonly good week.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pizza is always good and so are new books. Yay for getting almost caught up with reviews! I need to work on that. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with getting caught up. Writing reviews is so time-consuming!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
All of those look so cute :D
ReplyDeleteExcept for Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson. I did hear it was good! I didn't know about the bodily fluids.
I also didn’t know about the bodily fluids. They were very yucky. The book was pretty good, though.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yummy free pizza! I hope you enjoyed it and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy it. Pizza is one of my favorite foods.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Free pizza is always a perk!
ReplyDeleteI have reviews that need writing too. So, at least we're not alone. :)
Yeah, it seems like pretty much everybody is behind on writing reviews. I guess we all read faster than we review.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
All the books you read sound wonderful. I love pizza. NY style. I could eat it every night for dinner and be happy..lol
ReplyDeleteI love pizza in any style. I could also eat it every day and be happy.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I was going to comment something along the lines of "hmmm, free pizza", then saw that everyone else had the same idea, haha! I guess we're all pretty clear on the goodness of pizza. ;) Have a great week, AJ!
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, we all really like pizza. I guess that’s one of the few things that humans agree on.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
After Zero sounds wonderful - glad it was such a hit for you. Free pizza... such beautiful words. :) And only 3 book reviews behind... wish I could say the same. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteAfter Zero was surprisingly excellent. Now I’m 5 reviews behind. I’m trying so hard to catch up!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I did. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm definitely an escapist reader! It's my escape and my relaxation. And I think every week should have free pizza! Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteHihi, old books getting jealous - sounds so familiar! Don´t know when I had pizza for free the last time. Brings me to the thought, that I could later go and get me some. At least a bit *smile* Enjoy your books and have fun writing your reviews.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Vi
Free pizza is extremely awesome!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you had some good reads this week. Free pizza sounds like an excellent reason to be happy! I could go for some pizza. And new books always make me happy too, even tough I have so many books already, there's something so great about getting new books. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAnother blog post I read and thought I commented on, but didn't, because of cold medicine. I have been wondering if I do comment, but just leave before hitting publish. 🙈
ReplyDeleteYAY for free pizza, that's awesome! And for loving every book you picked up that week. That always makes life that much more wonderful, I'm so happy for you! :)
