The Sunday Post #189

I'm following you (but not on social media).

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

  • On Tuesday I go reading and walking.
  • On Thursday we talk about dangerous jobs.
  • On Saturday I read and bake cookies.

In My Reading Life

I did it! It took 3 weeks, but I finally finished Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I like Jo and Laurie because of their shenanigans, independence, and risk-taking. The other characters are mind-numbingly dull. Beth is so dull that she eventually stops getting POV chapters and just becomes part of the set. I didn’t like the book, but I’m glad I finally read it. I’ve wanted to read it for years.

After finishing a giant book, I picked up two more giant books. (Because I’m a genius.) Right now, I’m reading Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor and listening to What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. So many new books.
  2. Re-watching Game of Thrones. I think the Red Wedding is one of the most traumatizing moments in the history of TV. I know it’s coming, and it still freaks me out.
  3. Cake and ice cream.
  4. For some reason, Pinterest loved this blog last week. I have no idea what I did correctly, but thank you to everyone who follows me and pins my stuff.
  5. Also, thank you to everyone who has entered my giveaway so far!

  1. I'd have to agree with you about the Red Wedding, poor little Arya and Robs Direwolf Grey Wind! It was such a betrayal. Roose Bolton was on my shit list after that ugh! Jamie and Cersei were the first on the list after Bran. I'm also re-watching Game of Thrones for the umpteenth time because the last season will air this April. I'm glad you finished Little Women and I hope you enjoy Days of Blood and Starlight more than I did. I didn't like it as much as Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I'm struggling with her other series Strange The Dreamer as well

    1. I hate Bran, too! His storyline is so boring, and I want him to go away. I’m very excited for the new season. Hopefully I can re-watch all of the old episodes because I have a terrible memory.

    2. I don't hate Bran although he can be boring but the story that surrounds him is pretty cool and exciting. I meant that I hated what Cersei and Jamie did to Bran. I guess that got pretty misconstrued. Sorry. I'm not sure if I trust the 3-eyed raven yet or the children. Idk *shrugs. We shall have to see.

  2. I read Little Women so long ago, before I was so jaded, and remember liking it. Good luck with your big books. Cake and ice cream makes me happy too. I am thinking of the cake I will have today at my nephew's birthday dinner as my reward for going to a family function.

  3. I haven't read 'Little Women'. It's hard for me to get into classical books. But I will read Shakespeare if I'm in a group with others reading the script.

  4. I love cake and Ice Cream. I believe it should be mandatory every day.
I can't watch the Red Wedding, that entire scene is just awful.

Have a great week, Aj! Happy Reading! :)

  14. I loved Little Women. But then I read it when I was around 12, and that was a long time ago! I've always enjoyed the classics because they slow us down from today's more frantic pace. Not that life wasn't much harder then, it was, but also slower and I think we've lost something for that lack of ease found when we aren't distracted by a million other things all the time, as we are in this modern era.

    1. I agree. Technology has made life easier, but it has also given us different values. The girls in Little Women spend a lot of time visiting friends. Most of us probably don’t spend full days walking around to all of our neighbors’ houses.

  17. Little Women - I didn't hate it. Lol. Although some of the characters are just too much. Jo and Laurie are definitely my favorites, although I am of the group that wished they had gotten married. Lol.

I had to leave the room during the Red Wedding. It was horrible! I also left the room during the Shireen business. That was horrid as well.

  21. The Red Wedding still freake me out, both in book and show. In the book it's awful because he's naming everyone being killed and I'm like nooooo, not that one. Or that one. Stop George you maniac you're killing the whole North!!! And on the show we have to SEE it which is its own horror. Ugh.

Still I can't wait for season 8- the trailer looks AMAZING.

  23. Little Women was took me a month to get through, I had actually gotten distracted with other books and had to go back later and make myself finish it. I wish Jo and Laurie had gotten together. Can't wait to see what you bake on Saturday!

  24. I have a lot of trouble getting into classics. I do want to tackle Frankenstein, Dracula and Pride and Prejudice this year. I bought them all and they're just collecting dust on my shelf. I may do the audiobooks because I feel like I'd never actually pick up the book unless maybe if my life depended on it.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

  30. Sometimes just being able to check the box that you've read a book is satisfaction enough - even if you didn't like the book. Kudos to you for finishing it (because I gave up on Little Women). Beth was such a milquetoast character. I really enjoyed HRC's What Happened. I found it all fascinating.

My favorite were all the Dickens book and I have a whole set of them in hardcovers. I hope you have some fun reading this week, although I am interested to hear your thoughts on the Clinton book.
