recently.

On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I talked about how I’d die in a fantasy story.
- On Thursday I wrapped up February.
- On Saturday I reviewed two Cybils Award finalists.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I go reading and walking.
- On Thursday we talk about dangerous jobs.
- On Saturday I read and bake cookies.
In My Reading Life
I did
it! It took 3 weeks, but I finally finished Little Women
by Louisa May Alcott. I like Jo and Laurie because of their shenanigans,
independence, and risk-taking. The other characters are mind-numbingly dull.
Beth is so dull that she eventually stops getting POV chapters and just becomes
part of the set. I didn’t like the book, but I’m glad I finally read it.
I’ve wanted to read it for years.
After
finishing a giant book, I picked up two more giant books. (Because I’m a genius.)
Right now, I’m reading Days of Blood
& Starlight by Laini Taylor and listening to What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- So many new books.
- Re-watching Game of Thrones. I think the Red Wedding is one of the most traumatizing moments in the history of TV. I know it’s coming, and it still freaks me out.
- Cake and ice cream.
- For some reason, Pinterest loved this blog last week. I have no idea what I did correctly, but thank you to everyone who follows me and pins my stuff.
- Also, thank you to everyone who has entered my giveaway so far!

Great wrap-up!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree with you about the Red Wedding, poor little Arya and Robs Direwolf Grey Wind! It was such a betrayal. Roose Bolton was on my shit list after that ugh! Jamie and Cersei were the first on the list after Bran. I'm also re-watching Game of Thrones for the umpteenth time because the last season will air this April. I'm glad you finished Little Women and I hope you enjoy Days of Blood and Starlight more than I did. I didn't like it as much as Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I'm struggling with her other series Strange The Dreamer as well
ReplyDeleteI hate Bran, too! His storyline is so boring, and I want him to go away. I’m very excited for the new season. Hopefully I can re-watch all of the old episodes because I have a terrible memory.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I don't hate Bran although he can be boring but the story that surrounds him is pretty cool and exciting. I meant that I hated what Cersei and Jamie did to Bran. I guess that got pretty misconstrued. Sorry. I'm not sure if I trust the 3-eyed raven yet or the children. Idk *shrugs. We shall have to see.
DeleteI read Little Women so long ago, before I was so jaded, and remember liking it. Good luck with your big books. Cake and ice cream makes me happy too. I am thinking of the cake I will have today at my nephew's birthday dinner as my reward for going to a family function.
ReplyDeleteI hope your nephew had a great birthday!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I haven't read 'Little Women'. It's hard for me to get into classical books. But I will read Shakespeare if I'm in a group with others reading the script.
ReplyDeleteI like classics, but I agree that a lot of them are boring.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love cake and Ice Cream. I believe it should be mandatory every day.
ReplyDeleteI can't watch the Red Wedding, that entire scene is just awful.
Have a great week, Aj! Happy Reading! :)
I was tempted to close my eyes for the Red Wedding. I already knew what happened and wasn’t sure if I wanted to see it again.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I was never a fan of Little Women but then I don't enjoy classics!
ReplyDeleteI like a lot of classics, but some of them are a massive slog.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I was not a Little Women fan either. Beth was dull and Amy was just awful. I much preferred Eight Cousins or even Little Men. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI don’t think I’ll be reading any more of the series. One was enough!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oooh thank you for the shoutout AJ! No news from the baby this week? I guess you still have sleep to catch up with LOL And I need to resume watching Game of Thrones too!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I don’t want to be one of those annoying people who make everybody look at baby pictures. I have new photos of her, so she’ll probably be back next week.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I’ve wanted to read The Little Women for years. You discourage me))) But it is in my Classics list... so I will suffer)))
ReplyDeleteHaha, I hope you like it more than I did. Most people seem to love it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I loved the movie, but the book might really be boring...
DeleteI'll be interested in your take on Hilary's book. I've thought about reading it, but am not sure I want to relive the 2016 election.
ReplyDeletewww.thepulpitandthepen.com
I’m definitely doing a lot of reliving. I like the book, though. It’s interesting to hear her honest opinion on people and events and what she’d do differently.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good for you on finishing Little Women, I like the movie better. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! If I ever have the opportunity to see the movie, I’ll watch it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on finishing Little Women! You're such a boss for picking up additional huge books, I've been getting exhausted from books that are barely 450 pages.
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure what I was thinking. I finished an 800 page book and then picked up two 500+ page books. Both of them are pretty good, though.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I admire you for reading such giant books, somehow books that are too big scare me haha and I take so much time to pick them up haha :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and have an amazing week! :D
Big books tend to sit on my shelf forever because I’m a champion procrastinator.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've actually never read Little Women!
ReplyDeleteI support that decision. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I loved Little Women. But then I read it when I was around 12, and that was a long time ago! I've always enjoyed the classics because they slow us down from today's more frantic pace. Not that life wasn't much harder then, it was, but also slower and I think we've lost something for that lack of ease found when we aren't distracted by a million other things all the time, as we are in this modern era.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Technology has made life easier, but it has also given us different values. The girls in Little Women spend a lot of time visiting friends. Most of us probably don’t spend full days walking around to all of our neighbors’ houses.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I don't know that I will ever try to read Little Women so good for your for finishing it. The Red Wedding was pretty traumatic. I just have a few more episodes and I will be all caught up. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI really need to go back to watching GoT. I started watching it, but didn't keep up with it for some reason.
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
YES! I agree that you need to get back to watching it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Little Women - I didn't hate it. Lol. Although some of the characters are just too much. Jo and Laurie are definitely my favorites, although I am of the group that wished they had gotten married. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI had to leave the room during the Red Wedding. It was horrible! I also left the room during the Shireen business. That was horrid as well.
I think Jo and Laurie should have gotten married, too. It kind of felt like Laurie settled for someone he didn’t really want.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
OOoh! I need to watch Game of Thrones soon!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!

I'm curious about Little Women-- might try and read it, but we'll see. LOL

I'm so glad you finally finished Little Women! Now onto better books! Good luck with the Red Wedding... I haven't rewatched since the first time through, but I can only imagine watching and knowing that's coming. XD
ReplyDeleteI was dreading the Red Wedding, but I made it through!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The Red Wedding still freake me out, both in book and show. In the book it's awful because he's naming everyone being killed and I'm like nooooo, not that one. Or that one. Stop George you maniac you're killing the whole North!!! And on the show we have to SEE it which is its own horror. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteStill I can't wait for season 8- the trailer looks AMAZING.
Robb is one of my favorite characters, so I was definitely screaming, “Noooo! Stop killing everyone! We need them!”
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh my gosh Dacey Mormont in the books- I was almost sick when she died. And Smalljon Umber, Pipers and Vances and lol people I hardly knew- but they were the North! And yes Robb. Gah. George hates us.
DeleteYes I agree with Erica what an amazing wrap-up, thank you so much for sharing your awesome post.
ReplyDeleteLittle Women was took me a month to get through, I had actually gotten distracted with other books and had to go back later and make myself finish it. I wish Jo and Laurie had gotten together. Can't wait to see what you bake on Saturday!
ReplyDeleteSame! I was also hoping Jo and Laurie would get together.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have a lot of trouble getting into classics. I do want to tackle Frankenstein, Dracula and Pride and Prejudice this year. I bought them all and they're just collecting dust on my shelf. I may do the audiobooks because I feel like I'd never actually pick up the book unless maybe if my life depended on it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful week!
Tina @ As Told By Tina
I’ve read all 3 of those and felt “meh” about them. I hope you end up loving them!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I tried once to read Little Women under extreme duress. I didn't succeed. My weekly updates
ReplyDeleteHaha, I seriously considered giving up, but it’s not a difficult book, so I decided to slog through.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
It has been years since I read Little Women. I have a set of six books that I received as a birthday gift when I turned 11. I made it up to Jo's Boys. I never read the other three.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week.
https://thebookconnectionccm.blogspot.com/2019/03/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-mar-11.html
I don’t think I’ll be reading any of the sequels. One was enough!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I read all the Little Women books ... more than once. The Red Wedding episode!!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you liked Little Women!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh I was rewatching GoT too and omg it's so traumatising. I still need to see S7 though But it's like...am I emotionally prepared?? No? Ok watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine instead. (Apparently I only have extremes of TV watching.😂) Also congrats on getting through Little Women! I still haven't haha. I read a kid's illustrated version once though, does that count?
ReplyDeleteI kind of wish I’d read the kids’ illustrated edition! That would have been a lot faster. Good luck with your GoT re-watch.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I enjoyed Little Women as a child, but in adulthood, I found it preachy and annoying. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
It’s very preachy. A lot of kids probably miss that and focus on the characters.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Sometimes just being able to check the box that you've read a book is satisfaction enough - even if you didn't like the book. Kudos to you for finishing it (because I gave up on Little Women). Beth was such a milquetoast character. I really enjoyed HRC's What Happened. I found it all fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWhat Happened is fascinating. I like hearing her honest opinion on everything.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I liked Little Men and Rose in Bloom much more than Little Women. I agree about the number of boring characters. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people have said the sequels are better. I don’t think I’ll be reading any of them, though.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
You're pretty brave to rewatch Game of Thrones. I could barely get through it the first time! I doubt I will ever rewatch it. I'm looking forward to the last season and having it be DONE.
ReplyDeleteI’m so excited for the last season. I want to know how it ends!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I actually haven't seen Game of Thrones. Well, that's a lie. I watched two episodes and didn't care for it. Little Women is one of my favorite classics. They're making a new movie, it'll have Emma Watson in it. I'm pretty excited.
ReplyDeleteAsh @ JennRenee Read
I didn’t know about the movie. I might have to watch it. I love Emma Watson.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've never been a fan of Little Women, but that was the movie. Haven't read the book. Glad you finished it though. Kinda weird that a character's POV chapters stop though.
ReplyDeleteCake and ice cream would make me happy too. :)
I think the character was too boring for a POV. She just seemed to lie around and not have any thoughts.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
You read some diverse books. I read Little Women in high school or college age. I read most of the classics then. My favorite were all the Dickens book and I have a whole set of them in hardcovers. I hope you have some fun reading this week, although I am interested to hear your thoughts on the Clinton book. Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would survive in most fantasy novels either. I confess I have never read Little Women and have never had any real desire to. I hope you enjoyed Days of Blood & Starlight. I have been wanting to try the author's work for awhile now. I have had a lot of cake and ice cream as of late. Mostly cupcakes. Lots of cupcakes. Too many cupcakes. I hope you have a great weekend, AJ!
ReplyDeleteCake and ice cream; happy birthday! 🎂👑
ReplyDeleteI am so afraid to re-read Little Women. I have seen so much meh about it lateky. Ha ha. 🔰
I hope you had a wonderful week. 🌞
So I've never read Little Women *hides face*. I really wanted to when my cousin fell in love with the story and again when they talked about Joey reading it on Friends years ago lol! Maybe someday, we'll see. :) And cake and ice cream sounds great to me!
