This tag was created by Jenn @ Jenniely. I’ve been tagged for it approximately one billion times. You guys must really want me to do it. So, let’s find out if I’ve been naughty or nice.
The Naughty Or Nice Tag
1. Received an Advanced Reader’s Copy and not reviewed it?
Naughty. But only once! I’ve been meaning to read this book since before it came out. That hasn’t happened yet.
2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on NetGalley?
Nice. I don’t use NetGalley because I don’t love reading ebooks. However, I am considering setting up a profile. I want to see what all of the excitement/drama is about.
3. Promised a full review was coming and never wrote the review?
Naughty. I’ll write them eventually! I’m far behind on book reviews right now. In my defense, they each take hours to write.
4. Folded down the page of a book?
Nice. Nooo! I don’t do this. Judging by the amount of time I spend trying to flatten the pages of used books, many people do fold pages. If you're going to sell or trade your books, I do not approve.
5. Accidentally spilled on a book?
My childhood dog. A champion at barfing on my stuff. |
Nice. Well, this year I’ve been nice. I have damaged books with liquids in the past. When I was a kid, my dog threw up on my copy of The Golden Compass. In case you’re wondering, books are excellent at soaking up puke. #TheMoreYouKnow
6. Didn’t finish a book?
Naughty. Life’s too short to
read crappy books. If I’m not enjoying a book, I’ll chuck it in the donate box
and hope someone loves it more than I did.
7.
Bought a book because it was pretty with no intention of reading it?
Nice. I’m too poor to do this. I
would never spend money on a book that I’m not going to read.
8.
Read while you were meant to be doing something else?
Naughty. This happens pretty
much every day. I’ve been reading instead of blogging lately. Then I have to
scramble to get posts done the night before they go up on the blog.
9.
Skim read a book?
Naughty. I do this with books I’m
considering not finishing. I’ll skim ahead to see if it gets any better. It
rarely does.
10.
Missed your Goodreads goal?
Nice, nice, nice! I’m going to
reach it this year, I swear. There’s still time. I can do it.
11.
Borrowed a book and not returned it?
Nice. If you borrow something,
give it back when you’re done. Don’t be a jerk.
12.
Broke a book buying ban?
Naughty. When books go on sale,
they’re too tempting to resist! I swear I’ll be better about this next year. I
own 44 unread books right now. It will take me about 4 months to read that
much. Ideally, I’d like 10-15 unread books on my shelf. That would give me
choices for what to read next, but I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed like I do now.
13.
Started a review, left it for ages, and then forgot what the book was about?
Naughty. I read a book in
October that I haven’t reviewed yet. I mostly remember that I hated it. I’m
foggy about the details. October was a long time ago!
14.
Wrote in a book?
Nice. When I was in school, I
wrote in books all the time. Now I have no reason to write in them. Also, I don’t
have space to keep the books I read. I have to trade or donate them. I’m
betting that nobody wants a book with my scribbles all over it.
15.
Finished a book and not added it to Goodreads?
Nice. I’ve been behind on my
Goodreads goal since April. As soon as I finish a book, I add that sucker. I
don’t enjoy feeling the Goodreads shame.
16.
Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book?
Nice. If you want to borrow a
book, I’ll let you. Just try not to get any weird mystery stains on it. Those
creep me out.
17.
Broke the spine of someone else’s book?
Nice. I’m careful with books. I
know how to read them while doing minimal damage.
18.
Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up damaging it more?
Naughty. *Sigh.* Damn you,
Instagram. I’m careful while reading
books, but taking photos of them is another story. Unfortunately, books aren’t
designed to be dropped on wet grass, covered in glitter, or used as bricks in a
spectacular book castle.
19.
Sat on a book?
Naughty. Again, this is Instagram’s
fault. The space where I take photos isn’t very big. There are usually a ton of
books and props everywhere. Something
is going to get sat on.
I got 9 naughty and 10 nice. I
guess I’ve been a slightly nice bookworm?

I don't think the DNF one should count as being naughty!! And the things we do for Instagram lol!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I think it’s naughty to force ourselves to read bad books.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ha! I am terribly naught when it comes to unread ARCs. I have an actual wall of unread books from conventions. I am the opposite of you. I prefer ebooks, and NetGalley is my downfall. I am a DNFer too. I have no time to do things I am not enjoying. I mean, I already go to work and adult every day, isn't that enough? Why should I finish a book I don't like on top of that?
ReplyDeleteI’m scared that NetGalley would become my downfall, too. Requesting books would be way too tempting for me. Maybe it’s good that I don’t have an account.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Let's see, I have three books sitting on my desk to return... better do that before i tag myself :)
ReplyDeletewww.thepulpitandthepen.com
Haha, I trust that you’ll return them when you’re done with them. You seem like a nice person. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Lol number 7 is that bookstagram life.
ReplyDeleteI used to be super 'meh'toward ebooks, but they've really grown on me. My kindle is super helpful when I'm traveling and want to read at night. I would definitely recommend setting up an EW/NG account!
I’m really tempted to set up a NG account. I might do it if I can get my TBR down to a sane number. I don’t need more unread books right now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I agree with Grace, DNFing is not naughty! And I definitely read when I should be doing other things, like cleaning the house.
ReplyDeleteSame! Books are way more interesting than cleaning the house.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have done so many of these. DNF is naughty but life is too short. I also have broken many book buying bans. Naughty. I am naughty.
ReplyDeleteMary
Haha, I’m naughty, too. Book buying bans don’t last long with me!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
This is a fun tag, I'm sure most of us are guilty of these. One time I took a paperback ARC into the bathtub and it did not end well.
ReplyDeleteHaha, oh no. RIP book.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
This is so fun, I love seeing people's answers! I had been able to answer no to the DNF one, until I DNFed my first book in a year and a half last week, so that was special. I do NOT let people borrow my shit- I will straight up buy them their own copy first. I used to let my mom, but she let her friend borrow one and guess were the friend left it when she "returned" it? Outside by the pool. IN. THE. RAIN. The RAIN, AJ. I can't. THEN I tried one more time because like, my mom gave me life, but then she got a grease stain on my first edition of Thunderhead and NOPE she's done. Crap I don't even remember what we're talking about and now I'm a little salty with my mom.
ReplyDeleteI guess people don’t love books the same way we do. A few years ago, I discovered that my grandma THREW BOOKS IN THE GARBAGE after she finished them. She didn’t even recycle them!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ouch, Shannon! No books in the rain!
ReplyDeleteI just did this one. It was fun. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI’ll have to check out your post.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good job on the nice count! I haven't checked out NetGalley yet, and I'm awful at keeping up with GoodReads. I think I'm just too old-school with my reading habit ;)
ReplyDeleteI think I’m the opposite. I rely on Goodreads way too much. I don’t think I could remember what I read without it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
AH! The Bear and the Nightingale is such a great read! I hope you enjoy it when you are able to give it a go! And... "Life’s too short to read crappy books." 100% AGREE!
ReplyDeleteI swear I’m going to read The Bear and The Nightingale early next year. It’s high on my priority list.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I guess I didn't realize you didn't use Netgalley! I don't either, but same- I'm strongly considering it because sometimes I make bad decisions haha! And #6 made me laugh. Go kid- chuck that book lol! I needed a good laugh...
ReplyDelete#8 too. *snort* So true.
Skimming- check. #12- made me laugh again- just that pic of Dany with the caption. Oh this post is killing me. And #18- oh my gosh how do people put their books by a RIVER and not get 'em wet, or drop em in, or any of a thousand possible catastrophes? I don't know.
Hahaha, I love the baby gif. Nope, I don’t use NetGalley. I’ve always avoided it because I know I’d request EVERYTHING.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love this! Good on you for only failing to review one ARC. I also DNF all the time, so I definitely can't blame you there. Good luck with your Goodreads goal! YOU CAN DO IT!
ReplyDeleteI did it! I reached 100 books! I’m currently reading book #101 right now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
You're pretty nice! I can be guilty about so many things in here :D
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at how nice I’ve been. I feel like a terrible bookworm!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
DNF is not naughty-it helps reduce the TBR! Netgalley didn't greatly appeal to me. I kept requesting epub copies and instead got dreadful pdfs with tiny and faint writing that strained my eyes! Also I don't like reading deadlines these days. There's still time to hit that Goodreads target so good luck!
ReplyDeleteUg, that PDF thing happened to me. I got a bunch of free indie-published books, but most of them turned out to be PDFs. PDFs don’t work on my Kindle, and I’m NOT going to read a whole book on my computer. Why do people do this? Just make it work on a Kindle!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Totally agree with your DNF philosophy :) Life’s too short to read books I don't like. I had to stop promising "full reviews to come" a long time ago LOL loved learning more about you :)
ReplyDeleteI still promise full reviews, but if people are looking forward to them, they’re going to have to wait a LONG time.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Such a fun tag! If you do decide to read The Bear and the Nightingale, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it. That's one of my favorite series.
ReplyDeleteLMAO at the kid chucking books off the highchair! I need to be more like that kid.
Good luck on your Goodreads challenge!
You should read The Bear and the Nightingale. It is such a good trilogy! I guess I am saving my books by not having an instagram account :)
ReplyDeleteREAD THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE! Because the second book is even better. 👍✨
