The Sunday Post #179

Have a safe and happy New Year!

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I show you my favorite books of 2018.
  • On Thursday I wrap up December.
  • On Saturday I review a play and a novel.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Let It Snow by Maureen Johnson, John Green, and Lauren Myracle. Guys, this book is hilarious. It’s a collection of 3 connected novellas set during a blizzard. If you’re still in the Christmas spirit and looking for a book to make you laugh, check this one out. Maureen Johnson’s story is my favorite.

Then I read If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo. I liked this one, too. I enjoyed seeing a traditional YA romance plot from the point-0f-view of a trans girl. It’s got insta-love and flat characters, but I didn’t mind very much because I liked the narrator.

Then I read The Blue Girl by Laurie Foos. I think this book is smarter than me. It’s about mothers who feed moon pies to a girl with blue skin. It’s very weird, and I don’t understand the point of it.

Right now, I’m reading The Power by Naomi Alderman. So far, it’s slow but good.

In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. So much blogging. I’ve got half of January’s posts drafted already. I’m not usually this organized.
  2. Christmas was fun. I spent it with my mom and sister. I also stayed up until 1:07 AM to watch Santa come to my house on the Santa Tracker. I was kind of exhausted on Christmas morning, but #YOLO.
  3. I got new slippers! They are very fluffy and warm.
  4. There are no more books from 2017 sitting on my TBR shelf. All of my unread books were acquired this year.
  5. I won at Goodreads.

My New Year’s Resolution: Get Friends

    1. Ooh, I hope they’re good books. I didn’t get any books for Christmas, but I did get a gift card. I’ll probably spend it on books.

  2. Congrats on finishing the Goodreads Challenge in time! I wonder if I should try that with the TBR, finishing off books I got in each year. working forward? Trouble is, I'm starting with 2010!

    1. For the last few years, I’ve spent November/December trying to finish books from the previous year. I don’t like when unread books hang around forever.

  3. You're a beast. I don't even have tomorrow's post written yet. Slippers are the best. I like the lined, knit ones, and they are tucked all over my room, so a pair is always within arm's reach. Obviously, I share your love for slippers. I just looked at my review for Let It Snow, and Johnson's story was also my favorite. I am not surprised, because I like her flavor of humor. Whatever happened that the adaptation for that book anyhow? Finally, congratulations on completing your GR challenge!

    1. I’m wearing knit slippers with fluffy insides right now! I love them. I need to try one of Maureen Johnson’s novels. This novella was the first thing I’ve read by her.

  5. Congrats on your Goodreads Goal! I made mine also but had to squeeze in some quick reads. I am hoping to do better next year. I wish I was that organized to have posts for Jan but I honestly haven't been reading anything but I do hope to have something drafted soon.

Have a wonderful week, AJ! Happy New Year! xx

Now this would make me seriously happy as well. I was excited when I saw I had nothing earlier than 2013 on my shelf, lol.

    Happy New Year, AJ!

  15. Half of your January posts are done??? I've been neglectful this month.

I really liked If I Was Your Girl 5oo, did you do audio?

    1. Nope, I didn’t do audio. I need to try harder to get into audiobooks. When I listen to stuff, it’s usually music or podcasts about murder.

  16. I am totally impressed both by the fact that all of the books on your shelf were acquired this year and by the fact that you have half of your January posts drafted! I usually have posts drafted way in advance but at this point I have half of my posts for next week done and that's it!

  19. Oh I'm glad to hear Let It Snow was good because honestly- it sounded good! I might get that one. I wanted to read some holiday- themed stuff but just never did.

I've been doing some blogging ahead too with the time off- it's fun to be ahead. :)

    Happy New Year!!!!

  20. Glad you've got the new year's blogging under control already. I know I'll be struggling. Agreed to review a few more books than I can handle, but it will get done.

Sounds like you had a nice Christmas.

Here's to tons of reading great books in 2019. Happy new year.

  21. Oh, lordy! I still have books from 2008 sitting on my TBR mountain. I really need to stop accepting so many review books to read. Yay for warm, fluffy slippers too! Come see my week here. Happy reading and happy New Year!

    1. Wow 2008? I think I’d get stressed out if I had unread books from 10 years ago. I put a lot of pressure on myself to get books read quickly.

  23. Congratulations on getting through your past TBR shelf. I'm still working on getting through older review copies. I didn't pretty well paring it down this year and didn't accept very many new ones (and I read most of the ones I accepted). See what I read at Girl Who Reads
