Have a safe and happy New Year! |
The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance
to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What
Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date.
I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I showed you which 2018 releases won’t be under my Christmas tree.
- On Thursday I did the Naughty or Nice Tag.
- On Saturday I reviewed two middlegrade books.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I show you my favorite books of 2018.
- On Thursday I wrap up December.
- On Saturday I review a play and a novel.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finished Let It Snow by Maureen Johnson, John Green, and Lauren
Myracle. Guys, this book is hilarious. It’s a collection of 3 connected novellas
set during a blizzard. If you’re still in the Christmas spirit and looking for
a book to make you laugh, check this one out. Maureen Johnson’s story is my
favorite.
Then I read If I Was Your
Girl by Meredith Russo. I liked this one, too. I enjoyed seeing a
traditional YA romance plot from the point-0f-view of a trans girl. It’s got
insta-love and flat characters, but I didn’t mind very much because I liked the
narrator.
Then I read The Blue Girl
by Laurie Foos. I think this book is smarter than me. It’s about mothers who
feed moon pies to a girl with blue skin. It’s very weird, and I don’t
understand the point of it.
Right now, I’m reading The
Power by Naomi Alderman. So far, it’s slow but good.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Laura @ Boats Against The Current asks if Goodreads goals should be challenging.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that made me happy last week:
- So much blogging. I’ve got half of January’s posts drafted already. I’m not usually this organized.
- Christmas was fun. I spent it with my mom and sister. I also stayed up until 1:07 AM to watch Santa come to my house on the Santa Tracker. I was kind of exhausted on Christmas morning, but #YOLO.
- I got new slippers! They are very fluffy and warm.
- There are no more books from 2017 sitting on my TBR shelf. All of my unread books were acquired this year.
- I won at Goodreads.
My New Year’s Resolution: Get Friends
Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around
the blogosphere!
YAY on completing your GR challenge. I have to check out your books that wont be under your tree. I had a few show up under mine. Have a wonder New Year!
ReplyDeleteMary
Ooh, I hope they’re good books. I didn’t get any books for Christmas, but I did get a gift card. I’ll probably spend it on books.

Congrats on finishing the Goodreads Challenge in time! I wonder if I should try that with the TBR, finishing off books I got in each year. working forward? Trouble is, I'm starting with 2010!
ReplyDeleteFor the last few years, I’ve spent November/December trying to finish books from the previous year. I don’t like when unread books hang around forever.

You're a beast. I don't even have tomorrow's post written yet. Slippers are the best. I like the lined, knit ones, and they are tucked all over my room, so a pair is always within arm's reach. Obviously, I share your love for slippers. I just looked at my review for Let It Snow, and Johnson's story was also my favorite. I am not surprised, because I like her flavor of humor. Whatever happened that the adaptation for that book anyhow? Finally, congratulations on completing your GR challenge!
ReplyDeleteI’m wearing knit slippers with fluffy insides right now! I love them. I need to try one of Maureen Johnson’s novels. This novella was the first thing I’ve read by her.

I need to check out Let It Snow!!! Yay for winning at Goodreads. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! If you read Let It Snow, I hope you like it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on your Goodreads Goal! I made mine also but had to squeeze in some quick reads. I am hoping to do better next year. I wish I was that organized to have posts for Jan but I honestly haven't been reading anything but I do hope to have something drafted soon.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, AJ! Happy New Year! xx
I set my goal lower this year. Last year was too stressful!

"There are no more books from 2017 sitting on my TBR shelf. All of my unread books were acquired this year."
ReplyDeleteNow this would make me seriously happy as well. I was excited when I saw I had nothing earlier than 2013 on my shelf, lol.
Happy New Year, AJ!
Haha, hopefully I can finish all of my 2018 books this year!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on reaching your Goodreads goal! I am so happy that you had a nice Christmas with your sister and mom. Yay for blogging ahead and being so caught up on your tbr shelf. I couldn't imagine having the book buying self control that you have. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteBeing broke all the time forces me to have a lot of self-control. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
That sounds like a fantastic week! You had the nice family Christmas, you have your blogging organized and ready ahead, you won at Goodreads and met your goal, and you have your TBR shelf all caught up! You're a dynamo. Here's to 2019 being as great for you! Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteThanks! Happy 2019!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Wahoo! Congrats on reaching your Goodreads goal and finishing all your books from 2017! That's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteYay congratulations on your goodreads challenge, that's awesome! :) I'm also glad to hear you enjoyed Let It Snow, I had such a fun time reading that one as well :)
ReplyDeleteIt’s a really fun book. I need to read more fun books. Most of the stuff I read is very serious.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on so much blogging progress! I have...much less than half of my January posts drafted, lol. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks! I’m not usually this far ahead with blogging.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
You have scheduled your posts till mid January????? Wow! I feel put to shame here LOL And now that you are mentioning this I need new slippers too! Already a happy New year AJ ;-)
ReplyDeleteI’m surprised that I’m so far ahead with blogging. This never happens!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
LOL, that should be my new year's resolution, too. Great job on completing your GR challenge!
ReplyDeleteEvery year I say I'm going to read Let It Snow and then never get to it. Gah! I'm in awe at your blogging ahead prowess. And your NY resolution: love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI’ve also meant to read Let It Snow for years. I’m happy that I finally did it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Half of your January posts are done??? I've been neglectful this month.
ReplyDeleteI really liked If I Was Your Girl 5oo, did you do audio?
Nope, I didn’t do audio. I need to try harder to get into audiobooks. When I listen to stuff, it’s usually music or podcasts about murder.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I am totally impressed both by the fact that all of the books on your shelf were acquired this year and by the fact that you have half of your January posts drafted! I usually have posts drafted way in advance but at this point I have half of my posts for next week done and that's it!
ReplyDeleteI’m usually about 2 posts ahead with the blog, so this is weird. I’m not very organized when it comes to blogging.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've been trying to get ahead on my January posts too! But I am so behind in posting my reviews to GR. *sigh* Looks like you met some hefty reading goals. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI’m about 8 reviews behind right now. I can never catch up.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay! I loved If I Was Your Girl! I'm glad you did too! Great job on meeting your challenge goal! I know you were worried you might not make it. Good on you for getting so much blogging ahead done too! I aspire to be that organized.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I’m very surprised that I caught up on my reading goal after being behind all year.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh I'm glad to hear Let It Snow was good because honestly- it sounded good! I might get that one. I wanted to read some holiday- themed stuff but just never did.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing some blogging ahead too with the time off- it's fun to be ahead. :)
Happy New Year!!!!
Let It Snow is very funny. If you read it, I hope you like it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Glad you've got the new year's blogging under control already. I know I'll be struggling. Agreed to review a few more books than I can handle, but it will get done.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a nice Christmas.
Here's to tons of reading great books in 2019. Happy new year.
http://thebookconnectionccm.blogspot.com/2018/12/its-monday-what-are-your-reading-dec-31.html
That’s why I rarely accept review books. I know I’d commit to more than I could handle. I don’t have much self-control when it comes to books.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh, lordy! I still have books from 2008 sitting on my TBR mountain. I really need to stop accepting so many review books to read. Yay for warm, fluffy slippers too! Come see my week here. Happy reading and happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWow 2008? I think I’d get stressed out if I had unread books from 10 years ago. I put a lot of pressure on myself to get books read quickly.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I read The Poet X earlier in the year and quite liked it. My last update for the year
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping to get to it this year. It sounds awesome.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congratulations on getting through your past TBR shelf. I'm still working on getting through older review copies. I didn't pretty well paring it down this year and didn't accept very many new ones (and I read most of the ones I accepted). See what I read at Girl Who Reads
ReplyDeleteCongrats on not accepting as many books. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on winning the Goodreads challenge! And I only wish I could be that organised and have half of January's posts done already! I've planned them out, which is pretty organised for me, I just haven't written them yet!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! :)
I’m not usually this organized. I plan the posts on my calendar and then procrastinate writing them until the last minute.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm jealous of your organisation, I have no posts ready for January and I'm in January! I do have about 3 planned in my head, just need to get them on screen but life keeps interrupting me. Yay for meeting your Goodreads challenge.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with getting your posts done! I’m usually scrambling to get them up at the last minute.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on achieving the challenge! :)
ReplyDeleteYay on the Goodreads challenge :) Those are interesting books, especially The Blue Girl. Happy New Year and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The Blue Girl was interesting . . . and confusing.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I lost the Goodreads challenge last year but there's always this year to try again!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice Christmas. I love watching the Santa Tracker.
The Santa Tracker is fun. I like knowing where he is. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congratulations on hitting your goal at Goodreads! That's awesome! And Happy New Year to you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for reading 100 books! And it is so amazing that 2017 is cleared out of your TBR pile. I think I still have 2014 lingering on there, lol. But this is so brilliant :D
