In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finally finished A Game of
Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Then I read The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood. Right now, I’m reading The Psychopath Test: A Journey through the
Madness Industry by Jon Ronson.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- I have health insurance for next year. If you’re American and struggling with the whole money/medical issues/insurance thing, see if there’s an enrollment center near you. The people at mine were really helpful.
- I did blog maintenance stuff. Those rebellious buttons over in that sidebar <-- should now be functional and well-behaved. Feel free to click them.
- Huge bookshelf clear-out. I now have space and trade credits, so I can get new books.
- Looking at Christmas lights while walking the dogs. Christmas lights are the only good thing about the sun going down at 4:30 in the afternoon.
- I finished decorating my Christmas tree. I put it up right after Halloween because I was overeager, but I was too lazy to actually decorate it.
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
Trade credits are good.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some interesting posts approaching.
Yay for healthcare! I'm glad the people at your enrollment center were helpful.
ReplyDeleteGood for you with the healthcare, I have seen posts online about the enrollment centers.
ReplyDeleteI need to read Margaret Atwood asap. I just Alias Grace recently, based on her book and it was fantastic. I might start with that one.
Happy weekend and happy reading.
Congrats on getting healthcare for next year! That must be really stressful to take care of!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll ever be able to give away any of my books... I really should, though, the library at the school where I work really need more English YA books.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

Congrats on healthcare!
ReplyDeleteI was struggling to get rid of some books to get more space. It turned out it is much easier to get a new bookcase))
I love looking at Christmas lights, it makes my ride home from work more enjoyable this time of the year!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you found health care. We now live in a society determined to do away with everything we need and care about.
ReplyDeleteI just went to check out your The Edible Woman review; I thought I had read this one, but haven't. There is no Kindle copy available, so I'll be ordering a print version.
Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
I love the idea of focusing on 5 things that made you happy this week! And you have some great selections here. Happy you got health insurance!
ReplyDeleteI love walking around looking at the lights this time of year. It does cheer everywhere right up! My husband read The Psychopath Test and loved it, so someday I must check it out too.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Christmas lights! The ONLY upside to it getting dark so early. Ugh hate that. And yay for healthcare- it's kinda crazy how hard it can be to get that here now!
ReplyDeleteYay for trade credits!! I love looking at Christmas lights in our neighborhood. We just finished decorating our tree but still have some more in the house to do. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about the lights, I dread the darker days of winter.
ReplyDeleteI do adore looking at Christmas lights. One of my aunts lived in a neighborhood in Brooklyn, where the residents had their homes professionally decorated, and they were exquisite.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at Christmas lights too. It always brings back fun memories of driving around with my parents to look at them when I was a kid. I love doing the same thing with my son now.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing Game of Thrones! I tried to pick it up right after watching the first season, but the story line was so close and I'm just so intimidated by the size of the series. Happy reading!

Hopefully this week I’ll be putting up a tree! I’ve pulled out all the holiday decorations and all I need is some festive candles. I hate I missed the big candle sale at Bath and Body Works, but I’m sure I’ll catch some sales soon! Have a great week and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI do love seeing the Christmas lights around! Your tree sounds about like me. It seems to take me an insane amount of time to complete tasks like that these days because I just procrastinate and drag things out. I need to do some blog maintenance and writing...*sigh*
ReplyDeleteThat’s a smart way to handle books you have finished reading. Think about all the lovely things you can buy with those credits!
ReplyDeleteI bet that's a load off, knowing you have health insurance through next year, because it is a stress if you don't have it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read or watched Game of Thrones. I'm honestly really intimidated by it. I hear it can be pretty heart wrenching. Some day. :)
I have not read or watched Game of Thrones it just seems over hyped and kinda crude from what I've heard. I should do some blog maintenance, but I've just been to preoccupied with other stuff. We put out tree up and decorated last week. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIsn't GoT huge? I read the first two two summers ago, but got bogged down on the third one and have been afraid to attempt it again. Isn't it awful that we have to be all, "Oh that's GREAT you got health insurance!" instead of it being a given? Grr. And I need to walk my kids to see some holiday lights, since we have no dogs to walk. Good reminder.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got insurance! Thats important! I love seeing all the holiday lights. However, it makes January and February really depressing because its cold and dark and there isn't anything pretty any more!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week!
I have been enjoying seeing all the decorations as I walk my dogs in the evening as well. I do try to go as early as possible and avoid the dark as often as I can. Yay for book credits. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYay for health care!!
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas lights too. So cheery - and like you said, it makes up for being pitch black by 5 pm. Lol.
Yes, so grateful for healthcare. Signing up every year is a pain in the butt, but whatever. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books! ~Aleen
Blog maintenance is frustrating, necessary, and rewarding in its own way. I'm getting ready for the new year. Come see what I'm looking forward to and what I'm reading now.
ReplyDeleteYour productivity is astounding. I'm afraid to see what happens when I click the different links on my blog - I just close my eyes and hope I end-up somewhere at least semi-interesting (or at least Narnia). My goal is some serious maintenance after Christmas. :) Also, I don't feel nearly as alone now that I know I wasn't the only person too lazy to decorate my Christmas tree. Happy reading, AJ!
ReplyDeleteThat's great about the healthcare. It's always a concern. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones!!!!!! I love that series. I just wish he would publish more!!! I hope you enjoyed it but it is quite a read!
ReplyDeleteWell done on doing blog maintenance! *whistling and distracting so you don't look at mine*
Also bookshelf clear out! WOW.
Hope you have a good week and thanks for stopping by my blog!
I love looking at Christmas lights. They always make me happy!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Game of Thrones yet. I probably should. Maybe in the new year. ;)
Book shelf clear outs can be so stressful (because parting with books) but also a relief (because more room). We just put up our Christmas tree today. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats about health insurance. I know that can be important.
ReplyDeleteWe sort of have free health insurance here, but it also sort of doesn't work. I was majorly sick last week, some sort of stomach flu that I thought at the time was just some serious digestive distress. But I didn't go to any doctors... Because getting a vacancy would have taken me weeks. Pointless. And my grandma was told last week that she has to get an xray for her lungs. There's no signup for two months. Just... ugh. I wonder if there's a place in the world where the health system is NOT messed up?
Anyway.. have a nice week, sorry about the rant :)
I don't know how I would cope if we had to pay for healthcare in this country. In Scotland our prescriptions are free too but I'm not sure how long that will last.
