The Sunday Post #123

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. I’m spending the week with my family and some delicious pies. Wish me luck in my attempt to avoid dinner conversations about politics.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review State of Wonder by Ann Patchett.
  • On Wednesday I review Touching the Void: The Harrowing First-Person Account of One Man’s Miraculous Survival by Joe Simpson.

In My Reading Life

I’m doing the Tome Topple Readathon, so I’m reading giant books for the rest of November. Last week, I finished The Odyssey by Homer. Right now, I’m reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. I finally updated my About Me page. I’ve been meaning to do this for approximately 11 months. Head over there to learn more about everybody’s favorite subject: Me.
  2. I ate a really good meatball sub.
  3. There are deer outside my house right now. They’re so fluffy!
  4. I (kind of) have an Instagram account. I don’t think I can post anything on it because I don’t own a phone or any mobile devices. I made the account so I can see other people’s photos. If you want me to follow you, leave a link in the comments.
  5. A US Navy pilot used an airplane to draw male genitalia in the sky. Several people were offended. Immature weirdos (like me) laughed at all the news stories that contained the words “giant sky penis.”

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. I hope we can avoid politics at our Thanksgiving table, too! My mom and father-in-law have very different opinions, so this will be interesting. Have a great holiday!

  4. Now that you're a kick-ass runner, you can eat as much as you want. :)

  5. We play dodge the deer where we live all the time. It's not fun, but they are pretty to watch when they come in the yard. They seem to like the moss that grows in our yard. Enjoy your Thanksgiving. I am really looking to pumpkin pie, it's my favorite so it's the only time I get it. lol...

  7. Our Thanksgiving is gonna be small this year so hopefully politics won't come up. I'll just keep eating if it does lol. A meatball sub sounds pretty good. I love subs. And I laughed at that Navy pilot story- that's, um, not something you see every day in the sky.

  8. Oh yikes, that's why I hate family gatherings! Haha! Hurray for updating your about me! I'm bad about keeping mine up to date too... And yeah, I definitely almost died laughing at the giant sky penis XD

  10. Ah, yes, the dinner table with no talk of politics or religion! That is my wish, too.

I have been wanting to read State of Wonder for the longest time.

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  11. Have a lovely Thanksgiving with family. I had to laugh about talking politics with family. Ain't it the truth. LOL

  12. I'm sure the Ted Bundy book was disturbing! I think the sky writing is kind of funny! If we're talking most of my family getting together, food is definitely the highlight of a Thanksgiving dinner, lol! I love them, but usually there's some sort of drama. And where do you live that you're lucky enough to see a deer in the yard? Have a great week, and happy reading! :)

  14. Ohh good luck with the huge books for the rest of November! I've seen the size of The Secret History and it's kind of terrifying haha. Also DEER OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE!! THAT'S AMAZING!! Good luck avoiding the politics at Thanksgiving. 🙈

  15. I'm lucky that my dad and I have the same political views so there are no fights about it! With it just being the two of us it'll be a nice quiet festive season! Yes to the deer outside but I think I'd rather avoid the Navy and their antics!

  17. Oh geez, dinnertime political talk... maybe I should ban that as soon as everyone arrives. Ugh. Good luck with the Tome Topple Readathon! So impressed that you've already completed The Odyssey. And now you have me laughing at the phrase "giant sky penis." LOL

  18. You are reading some amazing books. I can never forget The Odyssey or The Secret History. Yet I’d never take on that challenge as I don’t like big books!

  19. Just went and read your About Me page. How did I not realize that you had a Masters in writing? That's pretty dang impressive! :-)

  20. One good thing about a small family is lack of diversity in political opinions. I did read about the giant sky penis but I want pictures! :-) Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  21. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving - thank you for the link of the rude drawing in the sky... I'm a tad worried about that pilot's anatomy given his configuration of the testicles. Thank you for swinging by my blog:)

  22. I can't remember the last time I had a really good meatball sub. I may have to hunt one down.

I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!

  23. Oh I totally snort laughed at the news reports about the penis in the sky. So funny! Oh my family is BIG about political discussions so I know your pain! I hope you are able to avoid the conversation!
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  24. I hope your Thanksgiving is full of food and happy conversations. I guess I am lucky that most of my family feel like I do politically. I also live very far away from most of them.

  25. LOL! I was right there with you laughing everytime I saw news stories about the giant penis in the sky.

I hope you have a wonderful week with your family. Good luck avoiding those political discussions at the dinner table. I'll be trying to do the same on Thanksgiving.

  26. We're having a quiet Thanksgiving at home this year. No politics! Come see what I'm reading

  27. I run the other way when people talk politics. I have opinions but keep them to myself. The story about the pilot is too funny. Have a great week!

  30. I should probably update my About Me page too. Who knows what it says after these years since I created my blog. Regarding the penis in the sky, a military pilot who has a popular radio show wife said that is a very basic and easy thing to do - it doesn't require a lot of training or complexity. I also laughed.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with yummy food!
