Top Ten Tuesday: Movies That I’ve Failed To See

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is top ten book-to-movie adaptations that I haven’t seen. If you’ve been around this blog, you’ll know that I’m horrible at watching movies. I just don’t have the patience for them. I’d rather be reading. So, here are ten recent book-to-movie adaptations that I’ve failed to see.

1. Paper Towns. I’ve read all of John Green’s books, and I really like them, but I haven’t seen this movie yet.

2. The Fault In Our Stars. Yeah, I haven’t seen this one, either.

3. The Silver Linings Playbook. I love Jennifer Lawrence. I even have a copy of this book with her face on the cover. That didn’t motivate me to actually see the movie.

4. The Maze Runner. I wasn’t a fan of the book, but my bookish friends loved the movie. I can see how the book would translate well to the screen.

5. The Hobbit. This was one of my favorite books as a kid . . . still haven’t seen the movie.

6. Far From The Madding Crowd. I’m a fan of Thomas Hardy’s work. I didn’t even mind being forced to read his books in college. I guess I’m not a big enough fan to see the movie, though.

7. Wild. I read the book because I saw the movie trailer and thought it looked interesting. I never did get around to seeing the movie.

8. Me And Earl And The Dying Girl. When this movie was in theaters, I actually looked up what times it was playing. But, I never went.

9. The Giver. Another one of my favorite childhood books. People have told me that the movie is very different from the book, though.

10. Gone Girl. When I read Gone Girl, I thought, This would make a great movie. I have no idea if it did make a great movie because I haven’t seen it.

What movies have you failed to see?

  1. There are so many movies I haven't seen as well, mostly because whenever I am about to watch it I just start feeling guilty that I should instead read because the movie will not be better than book and then...well let's say I have seen about 5 movies this year so far.

  2. I hear you on rather be reading! I have failed to watch Still Alice and Wild. From the ones you listed I really loved TFIOS, Gone Girl and Silver Linings Playbook. The movies were all done really well.

  3. I have yet to see The Giver OR read/watch Maze Runner too! I kind of want to read Maze Runner first but I've heard mixed things about it so I'm scared LOL! I have seen The Hobbit though and while there's A LOT of extra stuff in the movie versus the book, I quite enjoyed them anyway! I'm a little obsessed with Middle Earth though XD Awesome list^^ xx

  5. The first Hobbit movie - the beginning is awesome with nods to the LOTR films as well as pretty much exactly how I pictured the scenes between Bilbo and Gandalf and the dwarves. The rest of the movie - while beautifully done - I spent a lot of time going, "Wait. Where in the book are we??" The second movie was much better about staying on course lol

  6. Funnily enough I've seen four movies on this list (Silver Lining, Gone Girl, The Giver, and The Maze Runner) without ever reading the books. I think this was to my advantage in the case of Gone Girl, given that big twist in the story! But I think I need to get on reading the book soon!

  7. Oh I've seen most of them!

+Paper Towns was okay. By okay I mean 3/5 stars. Just like the book but I didn't like Cara. I'm sorry, her acting was so bad.
+TFIOS I love love love the movie and the book!
+Silver Linings I liked more the move than the book... Jennifer owned that movie :D
+The Maze Runner was okay as well but I've never read the book so I can't compare. Maybe it's a bad adaptation (?)
+The Hobbit was great! But I'm a bit nerdy when it comes to LoTR, Hobbit, Star Wars, etc
+Me and Earl was okay-ish... a bit boring and slow for my style
+The Giver was good. Kept my interest high through out the movie.

And the others I haven't seen so I don't know.

  8. The Maze Runner is actually much better as a movie than it is as a book.

  9. I was never able to get into The Maze Runner book, but I watched the movie and I absolutely LOVED it. It was so awesome! Ooh and The Fault In Our Stars was an amazing adaptation -- I actually cried during it.
