The Sunday Post #184

This blog post was crafted with love (by serial killers).

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I show you some books I’m on the fence about reading (so you can push me off the fence).
  • On Thursday I wrap up January.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Bodily Harm by Margaret Atwood. It’s not my favorite Atwood book. Actually, it’s probably one of my least favorites. The main character is infuriatingly passive. She lets a bunch of bad things happen to her and then gets locked in a foreign prison because of them.

Then I listened to King of the Wind: The Story of the Godolphin Arabian by Marguerite Henry. Yes, I listened to a whole audiobook, and I only had to rewind twice because of my wandering mind. King of the Wind is a sweet story about a boy and his horse. It reminded me of Black Beauty. There are too many coincidences and not enough character development, but I probably would have adored this book as a horse-crazy child.

Right now, I’m reading Arcadia by Iain Pears. I’m going to be reading this one for a while because it’s over 600 pages. So far, it’s very confusing.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. I finally saw A Quiet Place. I liked it. I think this is the only horror world that I’d survive. I rarely talk, and I’m pretty good at creeping around. The creatures would never find me.
  2. I finally watched the NHL All-Star Game. Those games are always fun. There’s lots of scoring and breakaways.
  3. The blog briefly reached 700 Bloglovin’ followers. Several of them are Russian porn bots, but whatever. If you like to read, I won’t judge you for being a porn-obsessed robot.
  4. It’s February, which means that my sister’s baby is due in 7 days. I’m excited to see the actual kid instead of those creepy 3D ultrasound photos.
  5. It wasn’t snowing yesterday, so I went for a walk. I ended up walking 7 miles.

I’ll trade eternal love for clicks

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. I hate being 'followed' by Russian porn bots! It's so annoying and there needs to be a way to delete these things from bloglovin.

    1. I think Bloglovin’ occasionally does mass purges of them. Sometimes I suddenly lose a bunch of followers on that site. Either I said something stupid that offended people, or it was a bot purge.

  3. What? you can have Russian porn bots following you??? How didn't I know this LOL? I knew they spammed yes but followed that's a new low (or high). And I loved Black Beauty !!!! I hope you stay safe and warm AJ!

    1. Yes! You can have porn bots follow you. I guess they’re hoping you’ll follow back and share their content. I don’t because their accounts are super-obvious (all the writing is in Russian except the word SEX).

  4. I think all my followers on Bloglovin are robots. I hope a few are porn bots because those are the best kind, really...just saying.
Excited for you to see the baby. I didn't even have 3d when I was preg with my kids so it was always that weird digital kid. I swear I thought it would pop out like a bit-mapped video game character.

I hope you have the best week ever, AJ! Happy Reading! xx

PS I would DIE! It's really hard for me not to talk. Even to myself. :D

  5. I have yet to see The Quiet Place but I want to so bad! I have only read HagSeed and The Handmaid's Tale by Atwood. I enjoyed both. I met her a little over a year ago. She is a very funny lady.

  7. Congrats on getting through an audiobook. I love them now but I really had to work at it at first. I don't think that I have heard of The Quiet Place - sometimes I swear I live under a rock. Congrats on your porn robot followers?! I probably have a few fake followers myself. Have a great week!

  12. Congrats on your sister's new baby. I like nieces, nephews, and grandchildren...they are fun!

I either love or hate Margaret Atwood's books. Most of them are loved, but then there are the occasional ones that just don't set well with me. LOL

  13. Geez, I think I might pass out if I walked 7 miles...jk...kind of. I don't think I've read Bodily Harm. As much as I love Atwood (and I really do), I have to be in a MOOD to pick her up. The Robber Bride and The Blind Assassin are two of my most favorite books ever, though. Have you read those?

    Yay, auntie! Babies are great.👶✨
