Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is ten things I’ve done for the love of books. Honestly, I haven’t done anything too weird or scandalous, so this was a difficult topic. Let’s see if I can come up with ten.
Things I’ve Done For The Love Of Books
1. Stayed awake all night.
2. Started a time-sucking
little blog.
3. Given myself eye strain that
literally never goes away.
4. Gotten yelled at by teachers
for being “antisocial” and reading books instead of interacting with my classmates.
5. Completely given up on having a social
life.
6. Spent 11 years in college
getting book-related degrees.
7. Went to a bookstore at
midnight to buy the final Harry Potter book (and maybe a few other books because you can't leave with just one, right?)
8. Gotten rejected. Many, many, times. From many, many places.
9. Attended numerous pretentious
and confusing poetry readings.
10. Enthusiastically jumped
into the festering cesspool known as “Twitter.”
What have you done for the love
of books?
Sleep is for the week when it comes to reading lol And yes to that eye strain!! It drives me crazy. And I've sat down on the edge of a cliff to take a picture of a book!
ReplyDeleteGenesis @ Latte Nights Reviews
I’ve sat on cliffs before, but not to take a picture. I had no good reason for doing it. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hahaha great list! I especially feel you on 1, 2, 5 and 6.
ReplyDeleteI've definitely stayed awake for reading! Also eye strain for sure.
ReplyDeleteEye strain is so annoying! I’m thankful for audiobooks.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh, these are funny. For me just getting a computer was giving up a social life entirely :x
ReplyDeleteWho needs real socializing when you have social media?
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ahahah I love this so much. Blogging really does take away all of your time, doesn't it :)
ReplyDeleteIt does! This blog involves a lot of late nights and early mornings.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've stayed awake all night too. I can't help it. Great list.
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
I know! Books don’t help my insomnia.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Haha sooo relatable. Especially this thing called a time-suck, I mean blog ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
How long have you had this blog now? :)
ReplyDeleteIt will be 6 years in August.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hah, I guess I couldn't agree more in regards to starting a blog! Sometimes I wonder why I spend so much time doing this, and then I remember... it's all for the damn books. Ditto on Twitter. And getting rejected! These are so funny, and very true.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I wake up at 5am to answer blog comments, I wonder why I’m doing this!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
We really are insane, aren't we? I wouldn't have thought to put blogging on this list, but yeah, it fits. I hope that you manage to put those degrees to good use in all the best possible ways, AJ. I am rooting for you always!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Thanks! Hopefully someday I can use my degrees in an awesome way. Getting them all was a lot of work.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh, 9 sounds like real torture(((
ReplyDeleteBlogging is really an effort, so much time... Luckily, there is so much fun as well.
Yeah, as much as I complain about the blog, I love it. The people in this community are great.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh my gosh #10 cracked me up. and #7. I just want to take a wheelbarrow with me to Barnes and Noble sometimes. And what would I do without my blog? Oh my gosh my free time would be off the charts. and maybe I'd be more well- adjusted? *ponders* Nah.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I go to a bookstore, I end up with armfuls of books. They really need to provide carts for us serious shoppers!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
As always, you have assembled a rather hilarious list, but seriously, #6. Whoa!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, my education was intense and probably ridiculous. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Haha! I've attempted a poetry reading and it was just too much for me. I almost included my blog on my list because it really is insane how much time we put into them. XD
ReplyDeleteI’ve been to a lot of poetry readings because I know a lot of poets. I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t understand 90% of it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I don't think I've ever stayed awake all night, but I've definitely stayed up far later than I should, just to read a few more chapters!
ReplyDeleteI stayed up all night when the final Harry Potter book came out. I needed to know how it ended!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
11 years in school getting book related degrees? Wow... But that’s about how much time I’ve spent in higher ed... and that Master’s Degree with which it seemed that I had at least two classes a term that was a book-a-week club (and often not short books). Good list!
ReplyDeleteIt’s kind of weird, but my BA involved more reading than my MA. I was constantly struggling to keep up with my BA reading because I had to finish multiple classics a week. I ended up skimming a lot of them.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hah. Starting a time sucking little blog. So so true.
ReplyDeleteIt’s crazy how much time it takes to keep this thing running.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Bwahahaha AJ Started a blog, that's for sure!!! Well maybe went a little overboard while ordering books (and my wallet was not happy), try to find many chores to do (just to listen to my book a little longer) ?
ReplyDeleteOnline book sales are dangerous! When the books are cheap, I can’t control myself.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
omg #6 is TOO real for me.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Definitely lose sleep but I also forget to eat a lot when I'm reading. I would probably starve to death if it wasn't for my animals reminding me that THEY need to eat! lol
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
I wish I forgot to eat. I’d probably lose weight. I love food too much!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Great list! Number 6 is just too darn relatable, lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks! A lot of people seem to feel that way.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Number 4 & 5 --> HELL YEAH. This week's TTT is so relatable!
ReplyDeleteThis week’s topic was a fun one.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Excellent meme/illustration choices as always!
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would end up on Twitter because I was never that into social media (I still have never had a facebook). But because of blogging I joined Twitter and recently Instagram. It helps that I forcus on books for the most part on both platforms.
ReplyDeleteWhen Twitter first became popular, I started an account to see what the hype was about. Then I deleted it because I didn’t understand the appeal. I never thought I’d be a Twitter person, but I am!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
"Given myself eye strain that literally never goes away." Same girl same. I now have to use reading glasses lol
ReplyDeleteCarrie @ The Butterfly Reader
I probably need new glasses, but those things are expensive! The ones on my face right now were $300. I’m going to wear them until they rot off me.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh, #3! So true. My eyes! And the people who don't understand that say "just take a day off of reading" like that's a choice.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can’t take a day off! I have a deadline and a massive TBR!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
HA #2 is so true, and the craziest thing we've all done probably! And I definitely would never have been on Twitter without books! And ughhh I stay up too late ALL the time, and have also probably stayed up all night to read. We're collectively a mess 😂
ReplyDeleteBooks are the only things that make Twitter tolerable. That place is awful most of the time.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Bwahaha on the degree. The eye strain. Yeah the blog (so not reading the books directly) have given me that. Oops!
ReplyDeleteYeah, staring at a screen all day is not good for me!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm with you on the time sucking blog! The most odd thing I did for books was relacing all my clothes storage ie wardrobe and drawers, with bookcases...priorities y'know?!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing! The dresser in my bedroom has one drawer for clothes and the rest for books that don’t fit on the shelves.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love this list and how you worded things! We have a lot in common, such as the lack of a social life, sleep and time because of book blogging. Oh, and studying books in university. I relate hardcover.
ReplyDeleteIs is "really bad", or "experimental". Ha ha! I have come across that situation too many times in life. 😂
ReplyDeleteI think my biggest one is spending money on new books instead of new clothes, and then an occasion will come up where I need decent clothing, but not the dressy kind of clothes you put away for good that last forever, and all I have are shabby worn out outfits. 😛
I love these so much!! And the memes are PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteSleep, or finish the book? Is that even a question LOL! I'm with you on a number of these.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and great TTT list, thank you so much for stopping by my TTT post last week Aj.
ReplyDeleteI stay up late ALL THE TIME. It's either for reading, writing or TV binging. Either way, it's probably something I should correct. ;) Thanks so much for the Finding Wonderland visit last week!
