The Sunday Post #193

This post was deciphered from crop circles.

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I tell you about the things I’ve done for the love of books.
  • On Saturday I review something. I’m not sure what yet.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson. This book is twisted, guys. It’s about a teenager who (allegedly) murdered a baby. The middle is too slow for me, but mostly I liked it. The end is nuts.

Then I listened to A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park. Unpopular opinion time: I thought it was kind of boring and predictable. It’s about a Korean boy who’s obsessed with learning how to make pots. I always struggle with books that focus on art. I had a hard time making myself care about pottery.

Then I read When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. I loved it! For most of the book, I was confused about where the story was going, but I got it in the end. Everything comes together perfectly. It's about a young girl who finds notes from the future.

Right now, I’m reading Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor. It’s okay so far. This novel is a beast, so I’m going to be reading it for a while.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. Dewey’s Readathon! I hope I got a lot of reading done. I’m writing this post on Friday, so nobody knows what the future holds.
  2. I applied for one of my dream jobs. There’s probably a 0% chance that they’ll hire me, but at least I got to spend 3 thrilling days filling out the paperwork. Everybody loves paperwork, right?
  3. I saw two movies: Brexit: The Uncivil War and The Meg. Neither of them are movies I’d watch again, but they entertained me for a while.
  4. Game of Thrones stuff is EVERYWHERE. The new season is so close, yet so far away. I’m dying from impatience.
  5. My giveaway is over! You don’t have to listen to me yammer on about it anymore! There were 683 entries, and the winner chose Caraval by Stephanie Garber. Thanks to everybody who entered!

I’m Somewhat Friendly!

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  4. I hope that the job comes through for you. I got to work at my dream job and I have high hopes for you.

I didn't see your post about the readathon. Maybe you read and didn't post here?

I'd like to invite you to share your post each week at Sunday Salon and join in the conversations there, too. I've just taken over this meme and I hope to use it to encourage more book talk in the world. The linky will be posted each Saturday on my blog and on Facebook. 10. Well I hope you get the dream job. If not, maybe you could work in some government position or doing taxes as there is a HUGE amount of paperwork. LOL

I hope you find some great reads and have a wonderful week!

Also, I hope you read a TON. I read nothing.

  12. The amount of paper needed to even be able to apply for some jobs is crazy. I hope you get an interview. Everyone deserves their dream job. I just finished season 7 of Game of Thrones and I am more than ready to see the new season. I am glad that I timed everything so that I didn't have long to wait to see more. Have a great week!

  13. Allegedly sounds bonkers. Which immediately makes me interested in it! And notes f/ the future- how cool (and freaky) would THAT be? Those both sound like very interesting stories!

Good luck with the dream job!!!

  17. I am crossing my fingers and my toes for you. I totally want you to get that dream job. Glad you loved When You Reach Me. I was a fan of that book, and I loved the nod to A Wrinkle in Time. Allegedly was SO twisted, and I loved that I struggled distinguishing between the truth and the lies. So well done.

  23. I actually really enjoyed The Meg and I imagine I'll watch it plenty times. I'm such a shark fan! Things like art and poetry don't interests me either so I tend to stay away from those! I'm just hoping that the final season of Game of Thrones isn't a total letdown. I felt season seven was too rushed with not enough of the side characters I love.

  31. The Meg is something I wouldn't watch again either, but it was fun at the time. Glad you found it entertaining too.

Laini Taylor's writing to me is a bit overly descriptive, slowing down the plot. Hope your experience with her improves as you go. :)
