October Wrap-Up

October Snapshots

1. I’m fairly sure I did nothing in October. It snowed the first week of the month, which put a damper on all of the fun fall stuff. I spent October trying to stay off Twitter (because it makes me melt into a puddle of gooey despair) and trying (in vain) to catch up on my Goodreads goal. Oh, Fraterfest and Dewey’s Readathon happened! Those were fun. I continued my long tradition of failing to read during readathons.

Pretty fall trees behind my house right before the snow killed them.

2. My fellow Americans: Please vote in midterms! It’s important. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain about what kind of dystopia we end up in. Vote early if you can. You’ll feel good about being responsible. Doing something responsible might also make you feel better about all of the irresponsible Halloween candy you’ve been munching.

3. It’s Nonfiction November! Who else is participating? I’m not officially signed up because I don’t have time for challenges or writing extra blog posts, but I’m going to read nonfiction all month. I already have a big stack of disturbing books next to my bed. I’m so ready for this.

I've already read Cannibalism, but these other books are on my nightstand.

Wayward Googlers

Here are a few amusing Google searches that led people to Read All The Things! last month. I’m sorry to the unfortunate souls who ended up here instead of finding what they were Googling for.

“Mythical creatures that clean your house.” I could definitely use some of those! There is currently dog hair everywhere. Why do dogs shed so much in fall? Anyway, you’re probably Googling for the Akaname. They lick bathrooms for . . . reasons.

“Ted Bundy sibling names.” It’s comforting to know that the Wayward Googlers have healthy, normal interests.

Books I Read

October was a nearly normal reading month! That hasn’t happened in a long time. I read 10 books and DNFed 1.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
The Gentleman’s Guide To Getting Lucky by Mackenzi Lee
An Outsider In Amsterdam by Janwillem van de Wetering (DNF)
Revival by Stephen King
Vengeful by V.E. Schwab
The Lady’s Guide To Petticoats And Piracy by Mackenzi Lee
The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
Copenhagen by Michael Frayn

Best Books Of October

This was hard! I loved almost everything I read.

1. Vengeful by V.E. Schwab
3. Revival by Stephen King

All The Things!

Distance I’ve sloppily jogged so far this year = 207 miles (333 km).

Number of unread books on my TBR shelf = 57 books.

I’m currently reading = The Blood Of Emmett Till by Timothy B. Tyson.

What did you do in October?

  2. I still need to read Vengeful, but hopefully soon! It looks like you had an awesome October, though sorry it snowed already. I'm currently dealing with tons and tons of rain. Sigh. lol I didn't realize November was Nonfiction month, but fun! I do have quite a few memoirs I need to get to!

    1. I probably should have picked up some memoirs. They would have been a good break between all the health and history stuff I want to read.

  5. Wow what a great month. I'm enjoying following you on Instagram. You had such pretty fall pics, despite your early snow. So glad you liked Revival. It doesn't seem to get enough attention!

  9. Happy to see that you've had a good reading month. I've been enjoying all the photos you've been posting on Instagram, the Fall colors are beautiful. 57 unread books isn't too bad! I'm slowing getting back into running, I had a tibia stress fracture years ago and had to stop running for healing. During that time I just got really lazy! I'm going to add in some Nonfiction this month, but like you I don't have time for all the extras. Happy November!

    1. I have to write down when bookish events are happening because there are so many of them. I’ve been hoarding nonfiction books all year for Nonfiction November.

I've spent the last few days going over all the amendments on our ballot. Good times. Or not.
I put The Great Alone on hold again on Overdrive. Last time my name came up I was too busy to read it so I had to let it go. I put it on hold again yesterday and I'm number 60-something. Ha. Maybe one day...

    1. Revival was slow, but I liked the characters enough that I didn’t mind. I posted on Insta at least once a day in October. That’s NOT going to continue in November. It’s too hard to keep up with posting every day.
