The Sunday Post #157

"But, I don't want to leave the house, Mother. There are people out there."

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

Public Service Announcement

Who else is participating in the Make Me Read It Readathon? It runs from August 6-13. My goal is to read the books that I’ve been procrastinating the longest. I need you to vote. Here are the 6 books that have been on my TBR shelf the longest. Which one(s) should I read? Tell me in the comments.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I talk about some super-popular books that don’t suck.
  • On Wednesday I’m hosting a month-long giveaway! Come back to win a book of your choice.
  • On Thursday I wrap up July.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Once again, I’m writing this on Friday morning because I’m participating in #ReverseReadathon. I can’t tell you what I’m reading at this moment because I don’t know. It’s probably a middlegrade book. I’ve been reading a lot of kids’ stuff lately.

Last week, I finished Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. I loved it. It completely lived up to the hype for me. The chapters are short, and the action is nonstop. I read the majority of it in one day, which usually doesn’t happen. If you like WWII stories or shipwreck stories, you need to read this one.

After that, I read The Wonder by Emma Donoghue. I have mixed feelings. It’s a historical novel about a kid who’s starving herself to death. It raises some interesting ethical questions about what kids should be allowed to do with their bodies, and if observers are ever obligated to step in and help, but I thought the plot was boring. It’s about a nurse who stares at a kid all day to see if she eats. There’s not much action.

Right now, I’m reading The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. I like it so far.

In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. Well, obviously I’m loving the readathons right now. I’ve done two this month and signed up for one next month.
  2. Is anyone watching Catfish: Trolls? It’s a reality show, so of course the people on it are stupidly overdramatic about everything. It’s interesting to see Internet trolls in real life and hear the reasons behind their behavior.
  3. My dog got groomed! Both the dog and the groomer survived. My dog is big and will fight you if you try to give her a bath. Usually it requires seven sumo wrestlers and an exorcist to get her clean.
  4. I might be going on vacation in September. I have zero details about this, but it’s fun to think that I might be going somewhere. I never go anywhere.
  5. I ate some pretty good onion rings.

Let's be friends?

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. For the Readathon you should read The Possessions and The Cresswell Plot based only on covers! Glad you liked Salt to the Sea. I loved that one. Yay for a vacation and onion rings!!! Have a great week!

  9. Hmm, the books you are procrastinating...I would probably keep on waiting to read. LOL. But Possessions might be good.

As for The Wonder, I haven't even read ROOM. I started it, and set it aside. I did love the movie, though. Hmm, wonder what that means? Maybe that I don't want to work too hard to ingest a story.

As for the Goodreads Challenge, I stopped doing it because of so many frustrations about how they count the book (versions of the book might count as two!).

I keep track of books read on my Curl up and Read blog.

I don't know any of the books that you have listed there, so I'll decline my vote for this week.

  26. I vote for The Possessions and as a runner up - The Last Harvest. You have lots of good ones to chose from so I'm sure no matter what you read, you'll enjoy it. 28. My mom and I used to help out my grandparents by giving their dog a bath every once in a while. He hated bathing, but at least he was small.
