Always a little off-kilter. |
The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book
Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the
past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You
Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read
recently.
Public Service Announcement
Read All The Things! now has a Pinterest account. I’m sharing posts from this blog, my bookish photography, and other interesting bookish
things. I don’t quite know what I’m doing with that site yet, but I’m having
fun learning. I’ll follow back book bloggers! (Please don’t let my mom be my
only follower. . . )
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I blathered about my favorite short stories of all time.
- On Thursday I blathered about watery places and the afterlife.
- On Saturday I reviewed some Newbery winners.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I talk about all the weird places where I’ve read books.
- On Thursday I do the stressful edition of the This Or That Tag.
- On Saturday I mini review Blood Red, Snow White by Marcus Sedgwick and Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones.
In My Reading Life
I’m
writing this on Friday because I’m currently participating in the #24in48
Readathon. I can’t tell you what I’ve read for that because I don’t know yet.
Last
week, I finished We Are The Ants by
Shaun David Huchinson. I loved it at first. It’s well-written, and funny, and I
liked the whole teenager-gets-randomly-abducted-by-aliens plotline. As the
story went along, the alien stuff got dropped, and it became a book about
romantic angst. I had to force myself to finish it.
Then I
read The Little Prince by Antoine de
Saint-ExupĂ©ry. I disliked it for the same reasons that I disliked A Wrinkle in Time. It’s weird and repetitive.
The moral is the story rather than
being in the background.
Right
now, I’m reading Salt to the Sea by
Ruta Sepetys. Good news! I like it so far.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Kate @ Mom's Radius watched Love, Simon with her 8-year-old, and it wasn't too awkward.
- Are you trying to grow you blog? Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books and Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian have tips.
- Are you an American who's confused by all the weird desserts on The Great British Bake Off? I'm confused, too. This article attempts to explain the differences between British and American desserts and why we don't all eat the same things.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- I reached 1400 Twitter followers.
- I’ve wasted a ton of time looking at random interesting stuff on Pinterest.
- Bloggers are still posting lists of their favorite books of 2018 (so far). If I haven’t commented on yours yet, leave a link.
- I actually have blog posts scheduled! For the past few months, I feel like I’ve been struggling to keep up.
- It’s readathon time. If you’re participating, good luck. I hope you get lots of reading done.
Stalk Me Everywhere
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
Thank you so much for the Dismal Swamp and the penis statue... And the article on the differences between UK and US baked goods - I had no idea there was such a divergence! Have a wonderful readathon and I look forward to finding out how you get on.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you enjoyed them!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on the Twitter followers! I need to make a new blog-focused Twitter account because someone from my professional life started following me on Twitter and now I feel like I can't post ANYTHING so I need a new secret account.
ReplyDeleteI have complicated feelings about Le Petit Prince because (a) I love France, speak French, lived in France, etc, and it's kind of a national treasure but (b) while I enjoyed reading the book in French the story itself was only so-so but (c) I LOVED THE NETFLIX MOVIE have you seen it please do so the animation was amazing!
It’s so awkward when people from your real life follow your blog stuff. I’ll have to check out the Netflix movie.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've been lost on Pinterest this week too. I go to view something and come up for air hours later not remembering why I went there in the first place. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
YES! That keeps happening to me. Lately I’ve been looking at pretty home libraries.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I am following on twitter, pinterest and instagram. All of my favorite social media sites. I don't use facebook as much as I should. Happy 1400! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteMary my #SundayRoundup #28!
Thanks for following! I don’t use Facebook, either. It’s full of horrible people from my old high school. ;)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on Pinterest and on your 1400 Twitter followers. Now salt to the Sea is one on my TBR for ages!!! And thanks for enlightening me on the difference between UK and US desserts ;-) Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI knew there were a lot of differences between the desserts, but I didn’t know it was so confusing!

Oops, I hit enter before I was done with my comment. Or at least, it disappeared. In case it just disappeared:
ReplyDeleteI popped over to your Pinterest account (congratulations!) and followed several boards. (I tend to follow specific boards rather than whole accounts; it keeps my feed from becoming too overwhelming.) I also followed you on Instagram. Nice photos!
Also, congratulations on the Twitter followers!
Thanks for following! I appreciate it.

Pinterest can be the biggest time suck - I can spend hours on there. So I've found tons of recipes I'll never cook, clothes I'll never wear, and hobbies I'll never try.
ReplyDeleteHaha, YES! I’m currently looking at houses I’ll never own.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Wow! Congratulations on your legion of Twitter followers. I aspire to reach that magic 1000 mark, but am not holding my breath. You are such the black sheep with your books this week. I have not read either, but I understand feeling deceived by a book (Ants). If I sign up for a certain kind of book, I get really frustrated when the author turns it into something else.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the synopsis sounded like a sci-fi book, but then it turned into an angsty romance, and I’m not a romance fan. Especially if the “problems” in the relationship can be solved with 1 honest conversation.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh I hope you'll have tons of fun over on Pinterest - I feel like it's a great website, though I never got the hang of it all with my blog. I mostly use it to procrastinate and find aesthetics haha :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the twitter followers! I'm also so glad you managed to schedule some blog posts, it's amazing when you do and feel like you have your blogging life together hahaha :)
I hope you'll have a fantastic week! <3
I’ve also been using Pinterest to procrastinate. It’s done nothing to drive traffic to my blog so far, but I did find a lot of pretty houses I’ll never be able to afford. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pinterest!! I spend way too much time on Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your blogging schedule is coming under control! And congrats on your Twitter followers!
Thanks! I’ve also been spending too much time on Pinterest.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks for the British/American baking differences link. I am definitely hopping over there. I'll be looking forward to your weird reading places post! Have a wonderful week. 🌞 And congratulations on your Twitter totals. 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks! The baking differences are surprisingly confusing.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good luck with the readathon. I was way too busy this weekend to take part, but it's fun seeing what everyone has been reading. I really hope to read Salt to the Sea sometime in the near future - so I'm glad to hear you are liking it!

I finished Salt to the Sea and loved it. It’ll definitely be one of my favorites of the year.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pinterest is fun. I lose HOURS there on the regular. But I've determined that Pinterest has EVERYTHING- like seriously if I can't find something anywhere, I go to Pinterest and invariably there seems to be an image or pin of it somewhere. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a good readathon.
I’ve discovered that Pinterest is a massive time-suck. There are so many interesting things on there!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pinterest is a bit overwhelming at times-its like a black hole! Yay on your twitter achievement! Thats great! Enjoy the readathon!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Pinterest is overwhelming. There are so many things I want to look at!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think I have a Pinterest account but I don't touch it anymore. I could end up spending hours on the site with absolutely nothing to show for it. Congrats on 1400 followers! Salt to the Sea is one that I want to read so I hope you enjoy it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I’m learning that I can waste a whole day on Pinterest if I wanted to.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I rarely do anything with Pinterest. I'm on Twitter all the time - that's quite an accomplishment! Great you are getting your posts scheduled. Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteI basically live on Twitter. It’ll always be my second-favorite social media. (Goodreads is my favorite.)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hurray!! I'm terrible at Pinterest! Congrats on 1400 on Twitter! That's awesome! :D I've heard a lot of mixed things about We Are the Ants, so I'm not shocked you didn't love it. I do think you'll love Salt to the Sea though!
ReplyDeleteI did love Salt to the Sea!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on all those Twitter followers! I'm curious about Salt to the Sea.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog. Have a great week!
Thanks! Salt to the Sea was awesome. Definitely one of my favorites of the year.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope your readathon went well, and congrats on the Twitter milestone! Lots of my friends read The Little Prince in high school for French class and raved about it, but like you I didn't quite see the appeal. Hope you have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteI’m glad I’m not alone with my opinion of The Little Prince. I don’t understand the hype.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hope the 24 in 48 went well. I had to work. I read a little though. Finished Summer Days and Summer Nights over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have a Pinterest account, so I followed you. I usually post all my book reviews up there, and while I'm there I repin a bunch of writing posts and recipes.
Thanks for following! The readathon didn’t go as well as I hoped, but I still finished 1.5 books.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have so much fun pinning stuff to my Pinterest boards but I just rarely find the time to do it which is frustrating!
ReplyDeleteI could easily spend a whole day on Pinterest, but I don’t have time for that. I’ve been pinning a few things every morning when I have time.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
HOpe the 24IN48 was fun! I keep forgetting about Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, even though I failed really hard.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on reaching so many Twitter followers! That's always a good feeling, especially when you connect with a lot of them on a shared interest. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read either of the two books you've read this week but I have seen them around a lot!
Thanks! I love my Twitter peeps. Most of them are very positive and share interesting bookish stuff.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love Pinterest... probably too much. Lol. I followed you! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the readathon and congrats on the Twitter followers! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hope your readathon went well and congrats on blogging ahead and hitting a Twitter milestone!
ReplyDeleteI finished 1.5 books, so it went well enough.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I spend entirely too much time on Pinterest. I'm an addict. Lol. And now I'm following you!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking that I never posted my favorite midyear books post! I think I am going to try to do it this week. :)
I love Ruta Sepetys but I haven't read that one yet. I am glad to hear it is good!
Thanks for following! I’ll look for your midyear book list.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
You can get lost in another world on any of the social media channels! It happens to all.
ReplyDeleteYES! Twitter is especially bad. I follow so many people that I can keep scrolling forever.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I enjoyed The Little Prince when I read it as a young adult. I do agree that the moral is front and center though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you liked it! I get annoyed when the moral is the main point of the story. I don’t like getting preached at about anything.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm obsessed with only certain things, but Pinterest happens to be one of them LOl.
ReplyDeleteI’ll probably end up obsessed, too. There’s so much stuff to look at.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I use Pinterest, but only as a way to save things that I want to come back to, so I don't look at other folks pages...
ReplyDeletewww.thepulpitandthepen.com
I’ve mostly been pinning pretty home libraries that I’ll never be able to afford. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope your readathon went well. I have a Pinterest account. I'm terrible at actually using it for much of anything but I followed you anyway :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for following! The readathon went pretty well.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hadn't heard of the #24in48 Readathon, but it sounds like it was fun. Hope you enjoyed. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun. This was my first time participating, but I’ll definitely be doing it again.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pinterest seems to be taking off in the blogging community. I have it but haven't even looked at it in years lol
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your This or That post this week.
Karen @ For What It's Worth
Pinterest claims that it will drive traffic to your blog. That’s probably why it’s popular with bloggers. So far, that hasn’t been true with my blog, but we’ll see.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hope you love Salt to Sea as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteI loved it! It’ll end up on my favorites list for sure.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
We are the Ants is on my wishilst. I'll keep your thoughts in mind when I get around to reading it. My weekly update
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the pinterest page. I don't use mine as much as I used to. Should probably get back to it. Readathon sounds tiring. Hope you enjoy all your books. Thanks for visiting The Book Connection.
ReplyDeleteThe readathon was exhausting. My eyelid was twitching by the end of it. It was fun, though.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I try to avoid Pinterest. It can be such a time sucker! I feel exactly the same way you do about A Wrinkle in Time, so assume I'd also agree with you on The Little Prince (which I've never read).
ReplyDeleteThe writing style in The Little Prince is very similar to A Wrinkle In Time. They’re both weird and moral-heavy.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The Little Prince movie on Netflix was heartbreaking though! I actually ugly cried! I also enjoyed A Wrinkle in Time and I read it waay back in elementary school. I also listened to the audiobook last year :) Im sorry you didn't enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteEverybody seems to like the movie. If I ever get Netflix, I’ll check it out.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I also have a Pinterest account and have just followed yours. Tbh I can't do much with mine though because all the big picture files overwhelm my poor little tablet!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for following me! The pictures are hard on my ancient laptop, too. Scrolling through Pinterest is so slooooow.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I really enjoyed We Are the Ants, I also wanted a bit more sci-fi included but didn't find the romance overwhelming. I still haven't read the Little Prince of Wrinkle in Time.
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
I’m glad you liked it! I’m not a romance lover, so I have a low tolerance for that kind of stuff.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I don't understand pinterest. I signed up once and enjoyed looking at pretty pictures but I just don't get it... Good luck though! If I'm ever brave enough to dive back in and try and work it out I'll find you. ;)
ReplyDeleteCan I just say how much I like your format for this post? It's easy to follow and doesn't get too bogged down (as I know mine does!). I also am now your newest stalker on pretty much every social media platform...
