In My Reading Life
I read a lot last week, but don’t be too proud of me. They were short books. I finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. Then I read The Midwife’s Apprentice by Karen Cushman and Saint Death by Marcus Sedgwick. Right now, I’m reading Some Possible Solutions: Stories by Helen Phillips and Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that made me happy last week:
- Thank you to everyone who has entered my giveaway! You still have time to enter, if you want.
- I’m actually ahead on my Goodreads challenge. Who knows how long that’ll last?
- The Blog Stalker has been updated for the first time in . . . months? Years? I don’t know, but if you’re looking for excellent blogs to follow, check out the list in the sidebar. -->
- I ate an ice cream cone. It was good.
- My dad fixed the broken fence in the backyard. It broke because the neighbor’s snarly German shepherd crashed through it like the Kool-Aid man. Hopefully the new fence will be strong enough to stop the dogs from Kool-Aid-manning again.
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
Mmm, ice cream! We are patiently waiting for all the ice cream parlors and Rita's to open near us! Pretty soon!
ReplyDeleteYay for being ahead on the GR challenge. I am too but I set my goal low this year. Ice cream is always good. Love that Kool Aid man gif. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHmmm ice cream. I've seen that Mark Haddon before and it looks interesting. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI am also ahead on my GR challenge. But behind in others. Have a great week of reading!
ReplyDeleteMary #SundayRoundup #9
Ice cream! Now I crave ice cream!
ReplyDeleteI'm ahead on my GR challenge as well and I'm so far ahead that I have to work on falling behind lol
Have a great week!
I think it's funny that Dinosaurs on Other Planets has neither dinos or planets.
ReplyDeleteKool-Aid Man lol. that made me laugh. Mental imagery. :) And yay for ice cream! Our local ice cream joint opened up too this week on a warm day... right before it snowed. Oops...
Oh man. Our neighbor has two big dogs that ram into the wooden fence. One day I was out back playing with mine and a friend's dog who was over when one of their pushed the wood panel right out of the post. I immediately ran over, pushed up against it and the dog behind it and started yelling for my husband to grab a nail and the hammer. It's so freaking scary when you see something like that happen. That was last year... and I've clearly not gotten over it. LoL
ReplyDeleteI had a bowl of ice cream this week and it made it happy too. I also think that I may be addicted to Girl Scout cookies and may need an intervention soon. I checked out your sidebar - Thank you for mentioning me! I am having a good time imagining this dog going through the fence.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Midwife's Apprentice! I also enjoyed Catherine, Called Birdy by Cushman as well. It's been a while since I read them though - I might have to revisit!
ReplyDeleteAnd ice cream! Yay!!
Wooo! Congrats on pulling ahead on your reading challenge! I'm interested to see what you thought of Saint Death. I'm so interested in the author, but I feel like his books are too weird for me XD
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out The Midwife's Apprentice. Looks good and a new author for me. Bad dog! Crazy that it crashed through your fence. And way to go on your Goodreads Challenge:)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and congrats on being ahead with Goodreads—yay! I've been curious about The Butcher's Hook, so I'm looking forward to reading your review of it on Wednesday :) Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteShort books count too! I really liked The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. How did you like it?
ReplyDeleteNow I feel like ice cream...
ReplyDeleteI read the Curious Incident a good few years cago. I really liked the first half of the book but felt it tailed off as it went on. I also felt guilty every time I laughed...
ReplyDeleteHaha! The Kool-Aide man. That gives a really funny mental picture. I haven't had an ice-cream cone in too long. Have a great week and congrats on being ahead on your Goodreads challenge.
ReplyDeleteYay on being ahead on your challenge!
ReplyDeletePoor little fence. Hope your crazy Kool-Aid Man neighbor dog catches the hint with the new fence. :-)
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I like short stories too. Hope Pool Aid is deterred by the new fence!
ReplyDeleteHey I'm still proud of you AJ! Reading is reading! You are ahead on your Goodreads challenge! That's awesome! haha I always think the same "how long will it last?"
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! wahoo for being ahead on your challenge. I hope the fence holds the Kool-Aid dog!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting week. Luckily, the dogs around our house are small. If we had a fence, it would not be in danger. Yay for being ahead on your GoodReads challenge. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteUm, the dog next door crashed through your fence and your dad fixed it? Shouldn’t the snarly-dog-neighbor do that? That can be tricky, though. Hooray for being ahead on your GR goal. I scaled mine back this year and now I’m ahead. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteAll in all sounds like a good week... Yay for being ahead of your Goodreads challenge!
ReplyDeleteOh man. Sorry about the fence. My next door neighbor just has cats. Come see what I'm reading
ReplyDeleteYikes what a dog! Short reads still count so be proud! Enjoy this weeks reads.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I am on the blog stalker. *crying* I am sort of jealous that you ate an ice cream cone. I am trying to remember the last time I had one, and now, I want an ice cream cone. Maybe I will get one at the mall before the Obsidio signing on Wed (wishful thinking). Congratulations on being ahead with your GR challenge!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, book haul! Those are fun! And sounds like some really great things happened in your week! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI can understand the fence issue my neighbors dog got through one day and thankfully we weren't in the yard. It's not a very nice doggie. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLOL sorry I'm laughing at the your fence problems, but the Kool Aid guy is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great birthday, thanks for the giveaway. :)
Congrats on being ahead with your GRs challenge! We have doggies neighbors who crashed through our fence on more than one occasion. One of the times I happened to be home and on of my cat's (I have a few) channeled her bigger relatives/brethren and chased and scared the crap out of them and held our property line, lol! Too funny since these were big dogs! :)
ReplyDeleteUmmm perfect gif and analogy for the dog through your fence! <3 And YAY a giveaway... Thanks <3
ReplyDeleteSaint Death looks absolutely awesome. I read The Midwife's Apprentice once upon a time and remember enjoying it thoroughly. Have a great reading week ahead!
ReplyDeleteOne day I am on track with my GR challenge, the next it tells me I am behind. Screw it! Don´t know any of the books in your haul, but they do look good. The one with the scull ... might go on my wishlist *sigh*
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Vi @Inkvotary
LOL, kool-aid man ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy birthday!
I've had The Curious Incident on my shelf for YEARS and just never feel like reading it! Maybe it's the short book I need right now to get me out of my reading slump.
ReplyDeleteI loved Incident of the Dog. It was a great book. I hope you liked it too? And sorry about your fence. I'm glad it's all fixed now!
