January Wrap-Up

January Overview

I hope everyone had a good first month of the year! I started my second (and final) year of graduate school and spent most of the month writing my critical thesis. I also cleared 70+ books off my shelves and got rid of them, so now I have space for new books!

Books I Read

I set my Goodreads reading challenge to 100 books for 2016. January was a not-so-great start to reading 100 books. I only read 6 books last month, so I’m 2 behind. Here’s what I read. They’re all Printz Award winners.

Bone Gap – Laura Ruby

Tentative February TBR

Here’s what I plan to read in February. Let me know if you’ve read any of these.

One Death, Nine Stories – Marc Aronson & Charles R. Smith Jr. (Editors)
The Ocean at the End of the Lane – Neil Gaiman
A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness
The Miniaturist – Jessie Burton
I Am the Messenger – Markus Zusak
Burial Rites – Hanna Kent

All The Things

All The Things (AKA my TBR pile) = 47 books.
I’m currently reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.

I hope you had a great month!

  3. You may be two books behind your goal for the year but there's plenty of time to complete the challenge yet - 6 books is pretty good going.

Of your tentative TBR I've read a couple as well as have one on my own TBR. I loved A Monster Calls but couldn't get along with The Ocean at the End of the Lane - me and Gaiman just don't seem to connect, although he I know his work is much loved by many.

    Happy February!

    1. Thanks! I’m not too worried about the reading goal yet. I know that there will be some months where I’ll be able to read a lot more.

  4. I can't believe that you only have 47 books on your TBR. Wow. I have some months that I seem to read more than others. I am sure that you will reach your goal by the end of the year. I did read and enjoy The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I hope you like that one too!

  5. Oh, I LOVE how you write your TBR count! I... genuinel have no idea how many novels are in my TBR, but as usual, I'm hoping to reach TBR zero... Somewhen. But bookshops have such good deals on now!! Also, Midwinterblood looks rather lovely - was it?

  6. I have been thinking about reading the Printz winners also. I've enjoyed all of the ones that I've read "by accident." I do wonder how much they appeal to younger teens and non-bibliphiles, but that's no reason to deny myself the pleasure of reading them.
