We're back, baby! |
The
Sunday Post is hosted by The
Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and The Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz. They’re a chance to
recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What
Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to
tell you what I’ve read recently.
The Sunday Post Reboot
Long time, no see,
Sunday Post. I haven’t done a Sunday Post since May because my work schedule
was intense over the summer, but I think I’m back. Life has slowed down a
little. I’m going to try my hardest to be consistent with Sunday Posts. Wish me luck.
Have you heard
about my giant Christmas giveaway? I’m giving away a book shopping spree. It’s
open internationally, and you get to choose whatever books you want! I worked a crap ton of hours to make this happen, so entering is good for my self-esteem!
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I talk about how blogging has changed my reading habits.
- On Thursday I go for a walk and listen to an audiobook.
In My Reading Life
It’s Nonfiction November! So far, I haven’t had the best luck with it. Most of the books I’ve
read have been mediocre. Last week, I gave up on Why People Believe Weird Things by Michael Shermer. He spends too
much time debunking “weird” beliefs and not enough time explaining why people
believe them. I already know that illogical things are illogical. I want to
know why people believe illogical things. The book wasn’t telling me!
Then I read Honor Girl by Maggie Thrash. Best book
of Nonfiction November so far! It reminded me of my misadventures at summer
camps when I was a kid. The dialogue is hilarious.
Right now, I’m
listening to Fear by Bob Woodward and
reading Born A Crime by Trevor Noah.
They’re both interesting so far.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that
made me happy last week:
- Secret Santa! I apologize to everyone who follows me on Twitter because I’ve been tweeting about Secret Santa stuff incessantly. It’s fun, though.
- I sold four boxes of books to the used bookstore. Now I can acquire more books!
- I walked 11 miles while listening to Fear.
- My niece, Brooklyn, turned 9 months old. Those are her eyeballs at the top of this post. That’s an old picture, so her eyeballs are bigger now.
- Thank you to everyone who has entered my giveaway!
Stalk Me Everywhere
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
She is the most adorable looking baby! Glad that work is easing up at last - it's nice to see you back in the Sunday Post neighbourhood, AJ. I hope the giveaway is a huge success and the coming week is a good one.
ReplyDeleteYour niece is very cute. And she looks fierce in that picture. :D Good on you for walking all those miles. :) I don't mind walking, but as soon as it gets cold, I'm reluctant to take a single step outside haha. I didn't know about non-fiction November, but I'm reading a book called Why We Sleep right now, so I guess that fits. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDelete"Fear" has been a joke book at my workplace because we ended up having an insane amount of copies when it first came out because of how popular it was. Our shelves were "full of Fear" and other such jokes ;). I'm glad to hear you are enjoying it so far. Born a Crime is one I'm really interested in, but don't know that I will get around to it for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteWho could possibly turn down the chance to win $100 of books, that’s like $90 more than my yearly book budget :) I’m sorry you haven’t had much luck with #nonficnov, I need a few more days in the month so I can get through my list.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Brooklyn is growing so fast. I got Born a Crime as a free audible which I'm not sure how but it came up as a deal. I really enjoyed it. I do think audio made it easy for me to read. Trevor narrates it himself and I like that. Have a wonderful week! I hope you find some more good reads. I know Jonetta has had some amazing looking autobiographies of Sally Field, Julie Andrews and a biography (?) about Whitney Houston which all appealed to me.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
Welcome back! Brooklyn is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI read Fear...and wish that something will be done about that bully in the WH.
Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
I am so happy to have you back AJ!!!!! And I have noticed that when it rains I still go for long walks thanks to audiobooks. Your niece was the cutest baby!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back AJ! And thank you for sharing the cute baby picture with us. Love it! I wish I could say that I´ve worked my butt of during the summer too. Didn´t happen. Happy reading and happy listening to audio.
ReplyDeleteBABYY BROOKLYN!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back AJ, I'm happy work has calmed down a bit. It's funny because my schedule is the opposite. Summer is dead and the Fall and Spring and awful.
(Amber @ Du Livre)
Aww cute pic! And I love used bookstores. I could live in one.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're Sunday Posting again! :)
Those are some pretty adorable eyes. I am sure that they are even more adorable now that they are bigger :) I didn't realize how much I missed your Sunday Posts. It is always a joy to see the list of things that made you happy. Good luck with the rest of non-fiction November! I like the occasional non-fiction but I don't think I could do a month of it.
ReplyDeleteHeeeeey! *waves*
ReplyDeleteYeah! Glad to have you back on Sunday. I cannot believe how far you walk. It should really inspire me, but I am lazy and it's cold. Four boxes is quite a few books. Good for you for parting with some books so you can get new ones. I have Honor Girl. I have not read it, but I meant to. Glad to hear it was good. Look at that cutie up there. Nine months means she is mobile. It's fun, when they are mobile, but it's a lot of work keeping them out of trouble. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThat baby is adorable! Also, you can never talk about Secret Santa too much! It's a blast and only happens once a year -- you do you. :) I've been going through a lot of my older books and forcing myself to make time for them (or at least listen to their audio versions), so I can clear some space myself.

Welcome back to the Sunday Post! I hope your Nonfiction November reads get better. I still need to read more too! I really liked Honor Girl, so I'm glad you did too. And I'm loving Secret Santa on Twitter - this is my first time taking part!

Hooray for a Sunday Post! And it bears repeating... your giveaway is pretty epic. :) Hard to believe your niece is 9 months old already. Wow. You really weeded out a lot of books. Now to start adding some new pretties.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see you back on Sunday. We need to see what you have been up to each week. Don't disappoint us again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a giveaway! Gracious yes, I'm entering it.
I'm sorry your Nonfiction November is not going as well as you'd hoped. I started out strong with The Body and then picked two mediocre books in a row, but now I'm back on track with a new history of Texas and a trip to Mexico.
Have a fabulous week!
I've actually been having pretty good luck with my Nonfiction November picks this month - hope you get some good ones in during the next couple weeks!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! That's impressive that you were able to get rid of so many books at the used bookstore. Hope you are able to acquire some great new reads! Also, thanks for hosting such an incredibly generous giveaway. I think that's the most epic one I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteAwww, Brooklyn's eyeballs are just adorable! And I'm glad you enjoyed Honor Girl! :-)

What an adorable baby! I've been listening to a lot of nonfiction audiobooks on my commute to work but haven't posted any reviews of those books.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to figure out what kind of nonfiction I like but, once I did, I've found that I love nonfiction. I hope you can find the right kind of books for you as well. Good luck with the Sunday posts.
ReplyDeleteI love walking but have never thought about walking and listening to audio books ...might be a way to get me to focus while attempting to 'read' audio books. Fear is on my TBR and I really liked Born a Crime which I read last year.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would do well with non-fiction November LOL. Your niece is sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. I'm not participating in nonfiction November, although I did post a nonfiction review tonight. My weekly update
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome giveaway! I'll check it out after this post. I don't read much non-fiction unless I'm required to, but good luck on your goal. Your niece is too cute! :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the Sunday post. Sometimes we can't fit everything in. There are sometimes whole weeks I can't blog these days, which makes me sad because I love it so much.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute picture. She is so adorable.
Thanks for the great giveaway. Enjoy your week.

Honor Girl sounds really good!! And welcome back. Your niece is adorable!
ReplyDeletei have books stacked all over the house. when i moved i left hundreds behind and as seeing as i have lots of unread books hanging around my kindle and tbr and can always get more, i don't see rereading them again. most i have read two or three times already. selling them to the used book story sounds like a great idea. thanks for the great giveaway
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Welcome back! I've missed your posts. I have bags of books that I need out of my house and have been looking for a place to get rid of them. My used bookstore gives me credit instead of cash and I don't need any books that they have. I think I might stealth fill Little Free Libraries or give them to the Friends of the Library for their next book sale. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! It's great to read your post! Your niece is so cute! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYour niece is so cute! Kids grow up so fast. One day they're 2 months old and the next thing you know they're 2 years old! Hope you make many more memories with books and your family :)
ReplyDeleteElle @ Keep on Reading
Don't you hate it when you go in to a book expecting one thing (I mean, understandably so as the title states it) and then it ends up being not that. I hope you have better luck with the rest of the nonfiction you're reading. I look forward to Thursday's post. A lovely week to you!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh your niece is way too adorable, made my day :) <3
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have a wonderful week! :)
Love love love the picture of your niece at the top. Too cute! Hopefully things will be a little calmer for you and you'll get more time for posting and reading. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYour niece is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHonor Girl looks wonderful - I need to add that to my list.
And Born a Crime was fabulous, especially on audio, read by the author - interesting, thought-provoking, moving...and also very, very funny! Trevor Noah is great :)
Enjoy your Nonfiction this week!

A BABY! How cute! I hope you enjoy your Thursday walk and listen!
ReplyDeleteI'm wishing you the best of luck for Sunday Posts! I use to do weekly posts too and then life took over so I went to monthly but I spaced on that a few times this year eeks. That picture is the cutest, oh my gosh she's so adorable!! 9 months is such a fun age ♥. And selling four books is so exciting because then that means new books, happy shopping!

Good to see you back! Hope all is well and that things have calmed down for you so you can enjoy the holidays.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I only do a monthly wrap-up on the first Sunday of the month, now, but I'll be here every Sunday. 👍✨
