Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone who's celebrating. |
The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and The
Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz. They’re a chance to recap the
past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You
Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read
recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I shared quotes from recent reads.
- On Saturday I reviewed two middlegrade books.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I talk about characters who remind me of me.
- On Saturday there’s a book haul.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finally finished Annabel by Kathleen Winter. It’s about an
intersex child growing up in rural Labrador in the 1960s. The book took
me 10 forevers to finish, but I liked the complicated parent/child
relationships.
Then I
read Vivian Apple at the End of the World
by Katie Coyle. This book has so many twists, and I didn’t see any of them
coming. It’s set in a world that’s being destroyed by natural disasters.
America has been taken over by a religious cult. When Vivian Apple’s parents go
missing, she sets out to find them.
Right now, I’m
reading Vivian Apple Needs a Miracle
by Katie Coyle. I’m enjoying it so far.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Sam @ We Live And Breathe Books asks if characters are ever too old for romance.
- If you could send books back in time to yourself, which ones would you send? Wendy @ Falconer's Library wants to know.
- Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books has tips for finding your blogging voice.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- Game of Thrones! Actually,
episode 3 disappointed me a little because there were no surprising deaths, and
the battle strategy made no sense to me, but IT LOOKED COOL! Bring on the next
episode.
- Speaking of TV, how did it take me a month to learn about Mummies Unwrapped? If you think mummies are awesome, watch this show on the Discovery Channel.
- Walking the dog and looking at deer. There are so many deer around here right now.
- My baby niece, Brooklyn, is starting to make sounds that aren’t grunts or headache-inducing screeches. She has suddenly become very talkative. Too bad nobody can understand her.
- If you have 40 minutes to kill, and you’d like to know how Game of Thrones is made, check this out:

other! See you around the blogosphere!
Baby babble is fun to listen to. Your niece sounds like a real bundle of joy. Thanks for sharing my post (always appreciate it). I still don't watch GoT, but I am ok with it. Sorry there weren't enough interesting deaths this week, though.
ReplyDeleteMy niece is a bundle of joy when she’s not screaming. She does an awful lot of screaming. Usually in the middle of the night. :)

Love the pic of Ned in a sombrero, lol! I also thought last week's episode was a bit disappointing- glad I'm not the only one, lol. With all of the heavy foreshadowing from Episode 2, the characters who didn't make it weren't a shock at all. :/
ReplyDeleteI kept waiting for something surprising to happen in that battle, but nope. The only surprising thing was the pointless Dothraki charge.

Happy Cinco de Mayo. I can currently hear the festival kicking off , let's how close we live. Drummers are a drumming and people are already looking for there parking spot, and setting up lawn chairs.
ReplyDeleteI don’t live close enough to hear festivals, but I know there’s a big one for Cinco de Mayo.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
GoT! I also thought there would be more deaths of more importance. But there are three more episodes for people to kick the bucket still. Your niece sounds super cute! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I’m hoping for lots of death in the last episodes!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Vivian Apple and the End of the World seems a very interesting book. Love stories with unexpected plot twists. :) I thought there would be more major deaths in the last episode of GoT (some deaths were expected and yet I was still hoping they wouldn't die). I guess they needed to keep some characters alive to kill in the next episodes.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! ;)
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
Yeah, they couldn’t kill everyone, but I was hoping for more!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I wish the margaritas were coming. I'd have to go out and I would rather stay home. and read. Have a great week with wonderful reads!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Holidays are less fun when you have to leave the house and buy the groceries.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy Cinco de Mayo! I wish we had margaritas on the menu today, but I'll have to make do with a glass of wine later on. Glad you finished Annabel and mostly enjoyed it... I remember adding it to my tbr on another blogger's recommendation quite a while ago, but haven't gotten around to reading it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe characters in Annabel are interesting, but there’s no plot, so it took me a long time to get through.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The Mexican food restaurant down the road sells margaritas for 99 cents on Cinco de Mayo. I think I need to take a walk down there before they run out.
ReplyDeleteLet us know how book two of the Vivian Apple stories works out...I'm curious.
I speak baby and I can tell you that your niece is basically telling you thank you for taking care of her and that she loves you very much!
I didn’t like book 2 as much as the first one. I think the characters relied too much on luck and coincidence to survive.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope the deer stay out of your garden, and away from the roads.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week
I feel the same about Game of Thrones! Although, I accidentally read a spoiler that said my favourite character would die but that didn't end up happening, so I was relieved as well :)
ReplyDeleteI’m glad your favorite didn’t die! I think most of my favorites will probably die before the show is over.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Wish I had a Margarita today, I don't even have wine :(
ReplyDeleteI read Vivian Apple, I thought it was pretty good, I never read the next one but glad you are enjoying it. :)
I still don't understand what my kids are talking about and they are 11 and 14 ;)
Have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading!
Haha, I guess kids are always going to be strange and mysterious.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
"Margaritas are coming" lol.
ReplyDeleteOoh I wanted to read Vivian Apple. I should get those.
Yay for Game of thrones- when this is over my Sunday nights are going to seem awfully boring all of a sudden!
I won’t know what to do with myself after GoT is over. I’ve spent too many years obsessing over the episodes or waiting for the next season to start.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love that Gif!!! LOL And my daughter is watching GOT while I am in the kitchen. I hear "oh no, oh no!" then "pfew!" etc so I can basically follow everything LOL
ReplyDeleteHaha, “oh no” is basically my reaction to everything on that show.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think that I have the audio for Vivian Apple. I will have to look. I was really surprised by a few things in the last GoT episode. My only real complaint would be that it was so dark that it was hard to see what was going on in some scenes. I can't wait for tonight's episode. I love it when babies start jabbering. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was too dark. That was disappointing.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love when babies start making noises like they're actually trying to talk. I remember when my niece did that, and we would all be like, hmm, I wonder what she thinks she's saying!
ReplyDeleteShe mostly seems to talk to her toys. When I talk to her, she ignores me!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Keep talking to Brooklyn and soon she'll be talking back and making sense. My Sunday Salon.
ReplyDeleteBabies "talking" is so funny to me. They seem so certain they are communicating. And I guess they are. But in a language only they understand.Ha.
ReplyDeleteLast week's GoT... so dark that I felt like I was watching thru a dirty window. I probably missed a lot. I didn't necessarily enjoy it but I also couldn't look away. I expected more major character deaths, for sure.
It was too dark. It would have been disappointing if a major character died, and we couldn’t see it!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Actually baby babble is fascinating. They repeat some sounds over and over because they are strengthening both their hard and soft palettes in preparation for the sounds they'll need to replicate and if you listen closely, you'll realise that in amongst some of that babble are already names or sounds of names she has identified... You'll also realise when you copy and interact that she spends a great deal of time looking at your lips - which is why I NEVER know why so many shows designed for babies insist on using puppets with no moving lips! Sorry... rant over... Have an enjoyable week:))
ReplyDeleteInteresting! She definitely stares at people’s faces and makes the same sounds over and over.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm happy to see you finally made it through Annabel. I still need to read it. 👍
ReplyDeleteSo much yes to baby babbling! 👶💭
Have a wonderful week. 🌞
Yes! I finally finished Annabel. It took me weeks, and it’s not a long book!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I want to be able to see deer when I walk about. All I see are squirrels... Did you see episode 4 yet? I can't believe it is about to end. I hope you have a better rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteElle @ Keep on Reading
Yes! I did watch episode 4. The deaths were slightly more unexpected in that one. I’m interested to see how everything ends.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
We saw a fox yesterday when we were walking Cass, which is kind of scary because we live in town. I can honestly say I liked episode 3 more than I did episode 4 last night. To me it was the worst one of the season yet. And I can't stand Cersei and I'm hoping for about 5 different people to take her out!
ReplyDeleteI was happy to go a whole episode without seeing Cersei. I hope somebody kills her soon.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Lots of wildlife these days! Last night's GOT was a little slow, but loyalties are being tested!
ReplyDeleteIt was slow, but I’m interested to see where things are going.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh thank you so much for sharig my post, so happy you enjoyed it <3 Have a beautiful week! <3
ReplyDeleteIt's exciting when babies start to show signs of being real human beings. Yay!
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes! I’m looking forward to the day when the baby is more interesting.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ooh, I'll have to check out Annabel! I'm such a sucker for great, complex parent-child relationships. And would you believe me if I said I've never watched any GoT!? Haha! I'm hoping to eventually get into the series. Perhaps this summer I'll be able to binge the whole thing. Have a wonderful week! <3
ReplyDeleteIf you can avoid spoilers, bingeing the whole thing is probably better than waiting for each season. Some of those waits were too long!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'll have to look for that show about mummies. I think they are fascinating. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThe mummies show is really interesting. I watched all of the episodes in one night.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm glad the baby is starting to make more appealing noises. LOL I'm glad that you liked Annabel overall; I know that was taking you awhile to get through.
ReplyDelete-Lauren
www.shootingstarsmag.net
I’m happy when the baby makes any noise that isn’t screaming!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
My copy of Annabel is still in storage. I should go and find it. My weekly updates
ReplyDeleteI remember when Jade was a toddler but not quite talking yet, she babbled and babbled and babbled like she was having full-blown conversations with us that we couldn't understand. It was so funny!!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Brooklyn is starting to do that! She stares at her toys and makes all kinds of noises at them.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Love that you're getting to see lots of deer on your walks. We've not spotted any since March
ReplyDeleteDeer seem to like my neighborhood for some reason. They just stroll down the street and eat people’s gardens.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
There seems to be so much hate for season 8 of GoT going around but I've loved the four episodes so far and have liked it better than season 7. I guess a lot of people are going to get mad when they see how it ends and I hope I'm not one of them! Let Jon go north to join Tormund and Ghost and Tyrion take the Iron Throne! Or Jon can take the throne and Tyrion can join Sansa at Winterfell!
