The Sunday Post #195

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and The Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz. They’re a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I talk about the first books I ever reviewed.
  • On Saturday I review two young adult books.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished In A Handful Of Dust by Mindy McGinnis. I really like Mindy McGinnis’s writing style, so I enjoyed it. I think I’m burnt out on post-apocalyptic books, though. There is a creepily excellent twist at the end, but mostly it’s about two people wandering through a wasteland. I’ve read a lot of books like this one before.

Right now, I’m reading Annabel by Kathleen Winter. It’s about an intersex child growing up in rural Labrador in the 1960s. I might DNF it for now. It’s one of those artsy books that require a lot of concentration, and I don’t think I have concentration currently.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. Game of Thrones! <-- This will probably be on my list until the series is over. All of the reunions in the first episode were excellent.
  2. I got most of my hair cut off.
  3. New books.
  4. Easter candy.
  5. The Avalanche survived the first round of the NHL playoffs. I honestly didn’t think that would happen because they barely made it into the playoffs.

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. Sounds like you got some great books on your shelf. I'm reading a Colleen Hoover book atm, and it's pretty good. Lots of her books deal with sensitive family issues.

    1. I’ve heard good things about Colleen Hoover’s books, but I haven’t read any of them. So many books and so little time!

  2. That book does sound intense and must seem even more so following a McGinnis book. Good luck with it! I got a lot of hairs cut too. It's always too short right after the cut, but I know it will be perfect in two weeks. I hope you enjoy your candy, your new books, and your hockey team's success.

    1. Yeah, I DNFed Annabel for now, but I might pick it up again tomorrow. It was too stressful for me last week.

  4. Game of Thrones? So you must really like that show? ;) Seriously, though (folk), my wife and I held off for the longest time, then we binge-watched all of them up to Season 6 from one of her coworkers who bought them on DVD. Then we bought Season 7 when it came out on streaming because we couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD, and now we temporarily bought HBO Go for two months, just for it. To be honest, though (lots of thoughs here today), and I know this will be blasphemy to your ears, but I'm ready for it to be over. Same with Avengers. Both endings seem apropos as I'm turning 50 this year and sort of restarting (rebooting?) too. As for hair being cut off, photo? :)

    1. Yep, I really like Game of Thrones. I’m ready to see how it ends, but I know I’ll be sad when it’s over because I’ve been watching it for so many years.

  5. My co-worker was disappointed by the first episode of Game of Thrones but I loved it. I really enjoyed seeing everyone come together. I can't wait for tonight's episode. The Blues made it past the first round last night. I am excited and hope that they do well in the next round. New books and candy are always a good thing.

    1. I watched that Blues game. I’m happy they made it through. I liked all of the reunions in the first 2 GoT episodes, but I’m scared that everyone is about to die!

  7. I always love it when I cut my hair for summer. It makes me feel so light. And I think about all the years I hung onto my long hair in such hot weather.

I'm burned out on post-apocalypse books, too. This used to be one of my favorite genres. Then I read too many of them. Now I'm backing off and hoping that I will love them again.

My favorite part of your post each weekend is always your list of good things. It reminds me of all the good things I experienced this week. It makes me feel happier.

  8. I was just commenting to someone else how much I loved the reunions in last week's GoT episode. Especially between Jon and Arya. And the claws have already come out between Sansa and Daenerys. LOL I love getting my hair chopped off - especially as the weather gets warmer. My team (Tampa Lightning) are out of the play-offs. *sobs* They got killed 4 games in a row by the Blue Jackets. So shocking because they went in as #1! I'm kinda pulling for Toronto now.

    1. I hope Toronto does well! The Jon/Arya reunion is my favorite. The Sansa/Theon one was sweet too.
