The Sunday Post #156

Always a little off-kilter.

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

Public Service Announcement

Read All The Things! now has a Pinterest account. I’m sharing posts from this blog, my bookish photography, and other interesting bookish things. I don’t quite know what I’m doing with that site yet, but I’m having fun learning. I’ll follow back book bloggers! (Please don’t let my mom be my only follower. . . )

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I talk about all the weird places where I’ve read books.
  • On Thursday I do the stressful edition of the This Or That Tag.
  • On Saturday I mini review Blood Red, Snow White by Marcus Sedgwick and Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones.

In My Reading Life

I’m writing this on Friday because I’m currently participating in the #24in48 Readathon. I can’t tell you what I’ve read for that because I don’t know yet.

Last week, I finished We Are The Ants by Shaun David Huchinson. I loved it at first. It’s well-written, and funny, and I liked the whole teenager-gets-randomly-abducted-by-aliens plotline. As the story went along, the alien stuff got dropped, and it became a book about romantic angst. I had to force myself to finish it.

Then I read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry. I disliked it for the same reasons that I disliked A Wrinkle in Time. It’s weird and repetitive. The moral is the story rather than being in the background.

Right now, I’m reading Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. Good news! I like it so far.

In My Internet Stalking Life

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. I reached 1400 Twitter followers.
  2. I’ve wasted a ton of time looking at random interesting stuff on Pinterest.
  3. Bloggers are still posting lists of their favorite books of 2018 (so far). If I haven’t commented on yours yet, leave a link.
  4. I actually have blog posts scheduled! For the past few months, I feel like I’ve been struggling to keep up.
  5. It’s readathon time. If you’re participating, good luck. I hope you get lots of reading done.

  1. Thank you so much for the Dismal Swamp and the penis statue... And the article on the differences between UK and US baked goods - I had no idea there was such a divergence! Have a wonderful readathon and I look forward to finding out how you get on.

  2. Congrats on the Twitter followers! I need to make a new blog-focused Twitter account because someone from my professional life started following me on Twitter and now I feel like I can't post ANYTHING so I need a new secret account.
I have complicated feelings about Le Petit Prince because (a) I love France, speak French, lived in France, etc, and it's kind of a national treasure but (b) while I enjoyed reading the book in French the story itself was only so-so but (c) I LOVED THE NETFLIX MOVIE have you seen it please do so the animation was amazing!

  3. I've been lost on Pinterest this week too. I go to view something and come up for air hours later not remembering why I went there in the first place. LOL

  6. Oops, I hit enter before I was done with my comment. Or at least, it disappeared. In case it just disappeared:

I popped over to your Pinterest account (congratulations!) and followed several boards. (I tend to follow specific boards rather than whole accounts; it keeps my feed from becoming too overwhelming.) I also followed you on Instagram. Nice photos!

Also, congratulations on the Twitter followers!

  7. Pinterest can be the biggest time suck - I can spend hours on there. So I've found tons of recipes I'll never cook, clothes I'll never wear, and hobbies I'll never try.

  8. Wow! Congratulations on your legion of Twitter followers. I aspire to reach that magic 1000 mark, but am not holding my breath. You are such the black sheep with your books this week. I have not read either, but I understand feeling deceived by a book (Ants). If I sign up for a certain kind of book, I get really frustrated when the author turns it into something else.

    1. Yeah, the synopsis sounded like a sci-fi book, but then it turned into an angsty romance, and I’m not a romance fan. Especially if the “problems” in the relationship can be solved with 1 honest conversation.

  9. Oh I hope you'll have tons of fun over on Pinterest - I feel like it's a great website, though I never got the hang of it all with my blog. I mostly use it to procrastinate and find aesthetics haha :)
Congratulations on the twitter followers! I'm also so glad you managed to schedule some blog posts, it's amazing when you do and feel like you have your blogging life together hahaha :)
    I hope you'll have a fantastic week! <3
