The Sunday Post #134

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Monday I review The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night by Jen Campbell.
  • On Tuesday we talk about my long-term reading failures.
  • On Wednesday I review The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories by Ken Liu.
  • On Thursday I list some oddities I’ve discovered inside used books.
  • On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I finished Bird Box by Josh Malerman and Lungs Full of Noise by Tessa Mellas. Right now, I’m reading Dinosaurs on Other Planets by Danielle McLaughlin and Still Points North by Leigh Newman.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. Super Bowl preparation. I don’t care about football. (I don’t even know which teams are playing.) However, I am passionate about party snacks.
  2. Spending some of my used bookstore credits. My TBR is ridiculous, guys. I guess I’ll be reading while everyone else is watching football.
  3. I’m still marathon-watching Planet Earth. This is still a very good decision.
  4. I actually have blog posts scheduled! I feel like I’ve been struggling to keep up for the last few months.
  5. NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory tells us what they’ve been up to on Mars:

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. Yay for having blog posts scheduled! I don't care about the Super Bowl this year either, aside from the snacks and maybe the commercials, so I'll be working on scheduling a few posts tonight while that is on TV.

  2. Good luck with your TBR. I hope you get to read a bit while the rest is watching football. ;) My TBR is kind of crazy too. If only I had more time in a day!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  3. I usually watch the Super Bowl, but only to see if my husband is winning any pools! And let's be honest, for the snacks, too!

  4. I'm like you with the Super Bowl, except I don't even care about the snacks. So my Super Bowl Sunday consists of trying to catch some of the commercials (this year they released a bunch early and I already watched them, though).

  5. You should try to mix in some nachos.

  6. I love Snacks too and the commercials. :) My parents are coming over for our annual superbowl dinner.

You can never has too many books. ;)

Have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading!

  7. We're not watching the Super Bowl, our team didn't make it of course. I do like the commercials though! If we do wacth, I'll read up until then. Lol... Happy Sunday!

  8. Oh yes party snacks. It is my kids favorite part and I just stocked up!!! Yay for more books and being scheduled ahead. Have a great week!

  9. I surprised myself by loving Bird Box. How'd you like it?

  10. I don't follow football, but I would follow a tasty snack anywhere :) Especially if I had yummy tacos, guac, layered dip, etc.
I read your review of The Wolf Road with interest, and decided nope to picking it up. I don't like books written in dialect, that's just me. I thought about Bird Box but wow, sounded too creepy.

Enjoy your week, reading and tv watching too.

  11. I share your passion for party snacks (and nachos). I hope the food meets your expectations.

  12. We aren't football fans, but we somehow end up watching the Super Bowl. I can take it or leave it...now, party snacks...that's something else. I always love those :) Have a great week!

  15. I'm also passionate about party snacks, and Planet Earth is amazing. I am watching Blue Planet II at the moment. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

  16. I am wondering about Bird Box as I've heard things and I don't REALLY know what it's about, other than it's apparently horror and apparently pretty freaky? Which sounds pretty good actually lol.

Party snacks are the best. I don't care about the game either, eating is the thing. And that Mars rover thing is pretty cool.

  17. My TBR is ridiculous as well so I feel you there. Doesn't stop me from adding more books though ;) I've had Birdbox on my TBR list for some time - I really want to read it before the movie (or at least I think there is a movie coming out based off of it). Have a great week and happy reading!

  18. You should know that we make Super Bowl food from the cities participating: We have Philly cheesesteak sliders and Boston creme pie on tap today. (Everything's a snack if you don't stop eating it, I always say.) I can't imagine what your reading fails are. I read 17 pages last year. THAT'S a fail.

Finally, I'm looking forward to what you've found in books. I always want to leave a note in them when I return them.

  19. Congrats on having your blog posts scheduled! I wish I was on top of things like that-- my blog has definitely suffered since the beginning of this semester....

  20. It always feels good to be a little bit ahead with blogging. It doesn't happen often for me but I love it when I can manage it. I am looking forward to having an excuse to have nachos for dinner tonight while watching the Super Bowl (and reading). Have a great week!

  21. I'm missing the Super Bowl altogether this year, so I'm also not getting the great snacks or getting to see the commercials. There's always next year, right?
My TBR list is so long I could never read every book on it if I read every day the rest of my life. ha. We just do what we can. :)

  22. Dang, I'm always so envious of how organized your blogging week is!

I loved Bird Box. I'm excited to hear your thoughts!

(And yes, potato skins and jalapeno poppers are the highlight of my Superbowl Night :D)

  23. Reading the things for which you are thankful makes me happy and thankful, too.

    Have a great week!

  24. Oddities inside used books - looking forward to that!

  25. I do like football but only half watched the game since none of my teams where in it this year. I like the snacks too! Love, the snacks really. I usually host a Superbowl Party but didn't this year. Which was good because it snowed.

Have a great week of reading!

  26. I'm oblivious to football and I have a vague idea of who is playing, but I am passionate about party snacks, too!

I'm interested in the oddities you've found in used books. Good luck running your 4 miles tomorrow. :)

  27. I don't care about any televised sports but snacks are very important! You've got the right priorities :)

I would love to have a used bookstore that gives you credit!

    Have a wonderful reading week!

  28. My days of staying up to watch the Superbowl are long since over! I need my sleep more these days so it's been years since I watched it.

  29. This was an exciting Super Bowl game even though I really didn't care much about either team. I'm glad the Eagles finally won. Next year the Vikings! Let's not even talk about TBR mountains. Mine rivals Everest. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  30. I hope your super bowl snacks were everything you wanted and more!

  31. Oh Planet Earth!!! So good!! Hope your snacks were tasty! Have a great week :)

  32. I'm not really into Football either. I was just in it for the half-time show.

Planet Earth is one of my favorite shows. :)

Hope you have a good week! ~Aleen

  33. I'm not a football fan, my husband and son watched it. I stayed reading and would venture into the kitchen for the snacks. That is wonderful you have your blog posts scheduled, it gets overwhelming at times.

    Have a wonderful day :)

  34. I'm not a football fan either. Growing up in an Italian immigrant family, we watched soccer. Enjoy your reading week!

  35. Sadly, my Suoerbowl Sunday had no party snacks/football food. I mean, really, without the food what’s the point? But the husband is sick and has no appetite and it seemed pointless to go all feast-mode just for me sooo... it was a sad day. While I had some free time (what a concept!) on Saturday I actually went ahead and did my TTT post. Scheduling ahead and being organized... huh. So that’s a real thing? Maybe one day it’lll happen again (read: not bloody likely).

  36. I can't wait to read your review for Bird Box! I recently read that and really enjoyed it. I hope you enjoyed Superbowl Sunday. Have a great week Aj!

  37. I'm a bit of a blog mess right now! I need to catch up. Lol.

I love the cover on that Campbell book!

    Have a great week. :)

  38. I always get so happy from buying new books even tough I already have so many of them. It's great to have some blog posts scheduled in advance. Have a great week!

  39. I can get behind party snacks. :-) We aren't football watchers in our house, but we do like our food. Maybe a little too much. How did you find Dinosaurs on Other Planets? I have a copy of that one and am looking forward to reading it.
