The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book
Reviewer. It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk
about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted
by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
Public Service Announcement
Some of you
have probably seen photos of Cheyenne, my dog-critter, on all the socials
lately. Well, last week, I found out that Cheyenne has a fast-spreading type of
cancer. The vet tried to get the tumor out of her leg and couldn’t get it all. The
cancer is already in her spleen and lungs. It can’t be treated, and the vet isn’t
sure how much longer she’ll live.
Read All The Things! is currently
way down at the bottom of my priority list. I probably won’t be able to respond
to messages quickly or get every single one of my planned posts up on time. I
swear I don’t hate you! If you message me, I’m not ignoring you. I’m just occupied
with dog care.
On The Blog In The Last Two Weeks
- I made nefarious plans to become the best fantasy author ever.
- I reviewed Dread Nation by Justina Ireland.
- I hauled some books with strange secrets.
- I didn’t kill any lions.
- I explained why I failed so hard at life in April.
- I reviewed Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman.
(Hopefully) On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I show off some of my (very unimpressive) bookish photography.
- On Thursday we examine the accuracy of Amazon’s book recommendations.
- On Saturday I review The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock.
In My Reading Life
Guys, I did
it! I finally finished all 1010 pages of A
Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin. It took me over a month to read that
book, but I did it. Good thing the book is brilliant, or I’d be pissed about
being so far behind on my Goodreads challenge. As soon as I finished it, I
ordered the next book in the series, which is 1177 pages. When I fail at all of my
reading challenges this year, remind me that it’s George R.R. Martin’s fault. Right now, I’m reading A Head Full Of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Marcy @ Keeper Bookshelf wonders why some book reviewers are so mean.
- Gabby @ 500 Books has a (very accurate) list of overused tropes in literary fiction.
- Ronnie @ Paradise Found confesses to being a slow reader. (I'm a slow reader, too!)
- Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight has some fluffy recommendations for the non-fluffy reader.
- Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction discusses reader expectations and character names.
- Danielle @ Books, Vertigo and Tea has some tips for writing negative book reviews.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things
that made me happy last week:
- I have the sweetest, most deviously intelligent dog ever. I’m happy that she’s been in my life for the past 11+ years.
- A flock of ducks has been hanging out in my yard. Probably because nobody has been taking care of the grass. The ducks think it’s a swamp. Usually the ducks stay in the creek and don’t come into the neighborhood. I guess my house is special.
- I saw a photo of a Game of Thrones themed wedding cake. Someone needs to marry me so I can have the same cake at my wedding. Guess what flavor it was? Red velvet! Of course a GoT cake has to be blood-red when you cut into it.
- Chocolate milkshake.
- Reading everyone’s wrap-ups of Dewey’s Readathon. I’m astounded that some people can read for the full 24 hours. I don’t have that kind of attention span.
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
I'm so sorry about your dog! Sending good thoughts your way and hoping she is comfortable.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this regarding your dog - thinking of you at this time.
ReplyDeleteOh poor doggie...sigh...reminds me of when I broke my leg and ended up in a body cast for six weeks. theglobaldig.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your dog! I am sending positive thoughts and lots of hugs!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your precious Cheyenne. It is so hard. My favorite dog pal, Hershey, was diagnosed with bone cancer and passed away almost 3 years ago. I still think about her everyday. My thoughts are with you and I hope Cheyenne will be around to give you love for a long time yet. I hope you have a good week, AJ!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your sweet dog! That photo breaks my heart. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteOh god, I am sooooo sorry about your dog. I have to dogs and dread the dead they are going to leave me. They are just as important as my children. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteMary my #Sunday Roundup #17!
I hope you and Cheyenne have a wonderful week of cuddles and treats ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you for the shout-out, and I am so so sorry to hear about your pupper.
ReplyDeleteSad about your dog.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you're able to read thousand-page books. I'm not.
So sorry to hear about your dog, all I'll say is spend time with her and enjoy it. I remember Sabre who was the dog I grew up with before our current one, suddenly over the course of 3 days had a tumor that could have been treated but we also knew it wasn't fair for him when he just wasn't giving us any sign of wanting to stay.
ReplyDeleteWe'll all still be here when you're ready for us :)
Sending you and your dog hugs xxx
Oh I'm so sorry to hear about Cheyenne. Sending dog hugs her way...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing Clash of Kings! Those books definitely feel like an achievement when finishing! And it amazes me that book is like 20 years old or something- I remember reading them the first time and not knowing that it would take my lifetime (?) to possibly get the rest of the story??
We've had a pair of ducks in our backyard too. Hmm...
It's so difficult to see your best friend like this. Hugs coming your way.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am sad about Cheyenne! Hang in there....
ReplyDeleteI am curious about The Smell of Other People's Houses. Thanks for sharing, and for visitingmy blog.
I'm crying! I am so sorry about your dog. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about sweet Cheyenne. I lost one of my fur babies to bone cancer too.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm so sorry about your dog :-( *hug* I will not be offended at all if you're unable to reply or visit. I'm sure we all understand.
ReplyDeleteBut hey, congrats on finishing a 1000+ page book! That is honestly impressive. It's so funny how ducks just always seem to appear like that. I remember once it rained hard at my gym and the parking lot basically became a lake and literally ducks showed up :-P
I'm sooo sorry about your dog! It's so hard to see a beloved pet/friend go through something like that. My heart hurts for you and Cheyenne, and I hope she has an easy time through it all.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Cheyenne. I hope your dog will make it through.
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays

ReplyDeleteOh, AJ! My heart is breaking for you. I am so so sorry. It's been six months since I had to say goodbye to my cat because of cancer. I am sending hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteYay for finishing Clash of Kings! I am glad it proved to be worth it.
I confess I have had two chocolate milkshakes this past week for therapy reasons. They did help. Maybe just not my thighs. ;-)
I hope you have a good week!
I'm so sorry about Cheyenne. Definitely make the most of your time with her and don't stress about the blog, we'll all still be here. Well done on getting through A Clash of Kings. It takes me ages to get through George R R Martin's books as well. The GoT wedding cake sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteI feel very sad about your dog. Enjoy these last times with her.
ReplyDeleteOh, no. So sorry about Cheyenne. {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteSo very, very sorry to hear the bad news by Cheyenne - she looks a sweetheart. Hugsx

ReplyDeleteMy heart is breaking for you and poor Cheyenne. Go and spend your time with your doggy buddy and we'll be here when you are ready.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog!! She's so beautiful, I'm glad she was able to be in your life for as long as she has.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your dog. It is hard when a member of the family is doing so poorly. I enjoyed your review of Dread Nation which made me more likely to read it. I am not a big fan of zombies but Jane sounds like a great character. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Cheyenne. I lost two of my babies to cancer. So I totally feel your pain right now. Give her extra cuddles for me. <3
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. Take care of yourself and Cheyenne. X
ReplyDeleteAwww so sorry about your pup AJ! ):
ReplyDeleteI'm also very impressed by anyone who does Dewey's. So much time dedicated to reading!
AJ, I'm so sorry about Cheyenne! *hugs* It's really hard. You don't want them to suffer, but you want to keep them in your life as long as you can, and make them as happy and comfortable as you can in the time they have left. I empathize... One of our cats was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago; we thought we would lose her in a matter of months, but she' still with us. The other was diagnosed later and gone within a couple of months. He's still in our hearts. Take as much time to be with your beautiful dog as you both need, and know she'll always be a little piece of your heart.
ReplyDeleteAJ I am so very sorry for your puppy. The wound to loosing a furbaby is very raw in my heart still, my best friend for 14 years passed away 6 weeks ago from cancer too. We got operated on to try and fix her, but it was one operation too many. I still cry 6 weeks later. If you need to talk, I am available.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so sorry about your dog! We lost our 11 year old cat at Christmas due to inoperable cancer and it's devastating. I hope the time you have left together is peaceful and happy and everyone will understand your blog dropping down your priority list and if they don't you don't need them in your life. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad to hear that about Cheyenne! I've been there, it's so hard. It's somewhat comforting to remember all of the wonderful years they've given us. I hope you have some wonderful time together, and definitely don't worry about not getting posts up on time, we'll all still be here. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, congrats on finishing A Clash of Kings! There is something so incredibly satisfying about finishing a beast of a book like that.
Awww, sorry to hear about Cheyenne! Sending lots of good thoughts your way! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your dog. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your dog, AJ. It's definitely understandable that the blog will take a backseat while you spend as much as time you can with Cheyenne. I know my pets are family so I totally get it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your dog. Sending good thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your dog. Hugs to you. What am I reading?
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I hope these next days/weeks however long are not to rough on either of you and that you can enjoy the time you have left together. *Sending digital hugs*
ReplyDeletePoor puppy! We get so attached...
ReplyDeleteHope you week goes well and thanks for stopping by!

This is my first time here, but not my last. I like that you list things that made you happy. I am so sorry that Cheyenne's cancer has spread. I will add her to my prayer list.
ReplyDeleteSending love to you and your furry friend. It's so hard when our pets get sick. Cancer is the worst. Hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteI 'm so sorry to hear about your furbaby, my heart is with you. Please take as much time as you need to deal with that I know how hard difficult times can be
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
I'm so sorry to hear about Cheyenne. I've been in a similar place and it's hard. Be here as much or as little as you need to be. I hope you're having a lovely week with lots of quality doggy time.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read about Cheyenne. I know a dog like her takes a very special place in the family. Sending a bit {hug} across the ocean. Now I am off to explore some of the posts you link to this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Cheyenne. {{{posivibes & hugs}}} to you both.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm so sorry to hear that about your sweet dog. It's astoundingly painful.
ReplyDeleteI've been offline more than not lately too (hence my late reading of this post), but I'm looking forward to going back and reading your posts from this week, especially your Thunderhead review, and your upcoming posts, especially your Smell of Other People's Houses review. I get super excited about reviews of books I've already read, for some reason.
Chocolate milkshake indeed.
Oh my! I'm sooooo sorry. That's so hard to take. I hope yo are doing okay. Enjoy every moment you have left. Take care. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteAwww poor little critter! Take care. Love on him while you can ♥️
ReplyDeleteSending love and peace to you and Cheyenne. Your title writing makes me want to click everything in your posts, you know that? It's been far too long since my last visit and now I'm wondering could we also have nachos at our wedding with that cake?
