Top Ten Tuesday: Truly Terrible Book Covers

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week, we’re talking about book covers. When you spend as many hours on Goodreads as I do, you come across some . . . unusual . . . book design decisions. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I question the eyes that slapped these covers together. Brace yourself, friends. Some of these covers will make you cringe.

  1. Wow, these are the worst! This is a fun TTT topic though! Did it take long to find these covers?

  2. Oh my goodness, who allowed these to be published?!

  3. These are horrible. Topping Timothy looks like a Wrestler throwback and there are no words for Beaten by Unconquered and Up My Alley. However, I'd probably be curious enough to check out Sarah Palin Vampire Hunter.

  4. Oh my god, you went all in on this post. Where did you find these?? Honestly, I worry about some of the people who thought these were okay.

  5. OMG, I just keep going back to Beaten But Unconquered. It’s like a train wreck that I can’t look away from home. It’s Just. So. Bad. *sudders* I don’t even understand the cover of Love at First Sight. I mean, isn’t that the same guy? Is he in love with himself? I am confused.

  6. Wow! Where did you find these?? These are terrible OMG. I cannot believe they exist. Fun post though!

  7. I normally enjoy offbeat books - especially if they're indie or self-published - but I can't stop cringing at your list. The Best Dad Is a Good Lover especially weirded me out.

I don't think I even want to know what that one was about. :O

    My TTT.

  8. Oh my god...even many of the TITLES are bad!!!

  9. Awesomely bad covers! Where did you find them all?

  10. Oh my- now THIS is a list. Beaten but Unconquered- what even is that lol?

Streaking for Mother??!? That's a real thing? Wait... Up My Alley too? Gahhh...

We Got Zombies on the Lawn Again, Ma- that made me smile. :)

  11. Oh god, I don't even know what to say about some of these--even the titles are terrible! Beaten but Unconquered is...definitely an odd cover choice, and The Best Dad is a Good Lover? Yikes.

  12. First of all, how did you find these? And, not only are some of the covers questionable, so are some of the titles. Sarah Palin Vampire Hunter - hmmm

  13. Wow... just... wow. If these are the covers, I'm scared to know what some of these books are about.

  14. I love your take on today's topic but, oh boy, this is quite a list! Really makes you wonder who thought these covers were great ideas.

  15. Oh wow there are true horrors here!!! Some of the titles are just as bad!!!

  16. I think Beaten but Unconquered is probably the worst of these ten. But the book content on some of these look questionable too.

  17. Oh my gosh. I can't unsee those now!!!

  18. OMG AJ this feel like a horror museum!!! How could someone design and another choose these covers is beyond my understanding!

  19. Up My Alley!! Omg, I snort-laughed at that one. And I actually feel like the Sarah Palin Vampire Hunter fits the campiness of that book, even if it is awful. Lol.

  20. Is the Sarah Palin, Vampire Hunter a real book or a spoof. I think I'd like Abe Lincoln as my vampire hunter. Also, I knew Charlie Shedd (and I agree, that's a terrible book). He's been dead for a while, but he did a lot of presentations for High School students in the Presbyterian Church when I was in my teens. Interestingly, he also started the church I currently serve (back in 1977).

  21. These covers are so freaking awful. How could someone design these covers?! One should never judge a book by its cover, but I'd never pick any of those books due to the cover (and titles).

    Happy readings!

  22. There are no words, really. I mean, I am pretty sure that anyone with any knowledge of... well, anything really, could make a basic book cover on any free program. It might not be gorgeous but it wouldn't be THESE. Based on that incompetence alone, I can't imagine how any of these authors could string together a coherent sentence, let alone a novel. So YES I will judge all of these by their covers because come ON.

  23. Oh god, how I laughed!! I really needed this this morning... How could anybody look at those and think, "Awesome! These will sell books!"

    ReplyDelete
  24. I may never stop laughing at the Sarah Palin one, haha!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh... my... god. I'm literally speechless? These are all so awful? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. But at the same time I want 0% of the answers BUT ALSO WHY. I'm concerned about who designed these haahaha

  26. Oh my god, haha. I can't with some of these covers! How are they so terrible!?

  27. I'm wheezing with laughter over here. These are terrifically awful.

    ReplyDelete
  28. WHAT THE WORLD?! Haha oh wow. I had no idea covers this bad existed.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh my goodness, how did you find these? These are so cringe. The titles don't help either.. XD thanks for sharing - this makes me much more confident in my graphic design abilities, lol.

  30. I don't know if I can unsee any of this lol

You took this weeks theme to a new level!!

  31. How did you find these? The titles and the cover are TERRIBLE. I did see a cover, I think on Tuesday, of Santa doing some VERY NAUGHTY things. I could never look at him and the Mrs. the same again.

  32. HOW ON EARTH DID YOU COME ACROSS THESE? It's a shame that the Sarah Palin one is the best looking in the bunch.

    ReplyDelete
  33. These are terrible! Beaten But Unconquered is something else...who thought that cover was a good idea. I think that I am bothered more by the title of The Best Dad is a Good Lover than the actual cover. Thanks for sharing these!

  34. Oh my god these are terrible, my eyes are suffering here, wow. I'm really glad I didn't come across these book covers in my book researches on Goodreads haha. Thank you for sharing though, despite being terrible they made me laugh more than once, too, haha! :D

  36. I kept saying oh my gosh, noooooooo lol! Thank you so much for the cringe worthy laughs. I still can't believe the covers, but the titles rofl!!! Streaking For Mother or The Best Dad Is A Good Lover....where were their friends and their family to tell them no. Just no lol.
