The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book
Reviewer.
It’s a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news.
It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date.
I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I showed you a few Stephen King books that I haven’t read yet.
- On Thursday I did the back-to-school tag.
- On Saturday I reviewed two classic children’s books. (I apologize for hating your childhood favorites.)
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I mini review two young adult books.
- On Thursday I wrap up September.
- On Saturday I mini review some spooky (?) novels.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finished Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places
by Colin Dickey. It was okay. I like that the author dives deep into
sociology and tries to figure out why Americans are so obsessed with ghost
stories. I didn’t always like the author’s tone. (I sounded like my mother
right then. “I don’t like your tone, mister.”) He gets condescending toward some
of the people he interviews. I have the (possibly wrong) impression that he
always thinks he’s the smartest person in the room.
Right
now, I’m reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. I love it! It’s taking forever to read because it’s huge, and because the main character’s parents
keep pissing me off. I can only handle them in small doses.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Do you have blog posts from September that didn't get enough love? Head over to As Told By Tina and link them up.
- Last week was Banned Books Week. Wendy @ Falconer's Library talks about it HERE and HERE.
- Are you an author who wants bloggers to review your book? Tracy @ Cornerfolds has a post you should read.
- Are you curious about ARCs? Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books and Elley the Book Otter are talking about them.
- Chuckles @ Chuckles Book Cave discusses the pros and cons of loving book series.
- Possibly the coolest blog post ever? Briana @ Pages Unbound surveys bloggers about their stats and exposes all of our secrets.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- Pizza!
- It’s for-real fall now. It’s cold! I’m wrapped up in a blanket.
- A bunch of my favorite authors have books coming out in the next few weeks. I’m going to be broke and drowning in books. (Which is pretty much how I always live, to be honest.)
- I made fruitcake, and it wasn’t disgusting!
- I wrote my 1000th blog post. This is what 5+ years of blogging looks like. (Haha, please send help. I’m so tired.)
Stalk Me Everywhere
Take
care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!
Thanks for the mention! And oh yes, pizza always makes a week good! It sounds especially good when I'm branching out into doing some cooking...if it goes wrong we might need takeaway pizza!
ReplyDeletePizza is always better than cooking my own food.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh that blogger stat post was interesting!! I really need to get to the Kristin Hannah book. Yay for pizza, for real fall and your 1000th blog post. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe stats post was a really cool idea. It’s nice to know how “normal” my blog is.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ghostland looks pretty good. I need to count my blog posts. I honestly have a blog that is very secretive where I do posts pictures of myself and all my secret thoughts.
ReplyDeleteMy blog keeps count for me. I’ve been blogging for a long time, so I wouldn’t want to count them all.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love Pizza! NJ makes the best pizza , just sayin! ;) I honestly could eat it forever! lol
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1000 Posts!
I went on a buying binge this week and I need to get a new book shelf! :)
Have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading!
I can assure you that Colorado doesn’t make the best pizza. I love it anyway. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on being best blog in 1864! Woot woot!
ReplyDeleteSo excited that you're loving The Great Alone. Hannah is practically an auto-buy author for me and she just never disappoints. I wish it was for-real fall here. We're still hitting the 90's. Ugh. I want to be wrapped in a blanket, too. *sobs*
I finished The Great Alone and really liked it. It’s an intense story.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Hahaha we will go broke together this month LOL And it feels like fall here too with blankets needed. Have a fantastic week!
ReplyDeleteI’m trying to prioritize which books I want. There are so many good ones coming out!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've been wanting to read Ghostland! I love ghost books although they scare the heck out of me. I am brave until the middle of the night...
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here today. I caved and turned on our heat. :)
Well, Ghostland isn’t scary, so you don’t have to worry about reading it in the middle of the night.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
AHHH 1000th post, wow, that's such an incredible accomplishment! I'm around 660, I think, with almost four years of blogging, so I'm looking forward to reaching that goal too.It means nothing, really, but... it's also so much fun to see how MUCH you've been writing on that blog, isn't it :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have a lovely week!! <3
I know! 1000 posts means nothing, but it’s still hard to believe I’ve blogged that much.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pizza is always a good idea. Yeah, it's bothersome when the author has a bad attitude in their writing. I love ghost books, but when the author is crappy, it doesn't exactly help.
ReplyDeleteI felt like he was judging the people he interviewed. If he was going to dismiss them and not listen, why is he writing this book?
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congratulations on your 1000th post! I haven't even counted mine...
ReplyDeleteFall weather can't come soon enough for me. At least it has cooled down some. I'll take mid-seventies over mid-nineties any day.
"broke and drowning in books." Sounds familiar... :-D
My blog keeps count for me. If it didn’t, I’d never know how many posts I’ve written.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have been wanting to read more Kristin Hannah, because The Nightingale was so amazing. Maybe I will check out The Great Alone. Isn't all fruitcake disgusting? Why do we subject ourselves to fruitcake?
ReplyDeleteMy experience with fruitcake has been pretty negative. The one I made wasn’t the best cake ever, but it was good enough.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on reaching your 1000th blog post! Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteI’m super jealous of your fall weather. Please, please send a little down to south Texas.
I hope fall gets to you soon!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on 1,000 posts! I always get excited when I reach a milestone like that. Pizza should make anyone happy. I could eat pizza everyday and never grow tired of it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSame! Pizza is one of my favorite foods.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pizza always makes me happy :D Congrats on 1,000 posts! I'm loving this fall weather too. SO. MUCH. Have a wonderful reading week! Real-life ghost/haunting stories are so much fun! Too bad this one wasn't great. I have so much love for The Great Alone! I agree about the parents, but without their tumultuous relationship and difficulties, the book wouldn't be so richly layered :)
ReplyDeleteSherry @ Ubiquitous Grace
I agree. The parents are hard to tolerate, but that’s probably because they are so realistic.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on your 5+ years of blogging, and it's always a happy time when favorite authors bring out new books.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
Thanks! I’m so excited about the books coming out.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pizza always makes me happy, too. 🍕
ReplyDelete1,000 posts! That's pretty spectacular. I've been book blogging five years in January and now I'm curious how many posts I've done. Not that many, I know. 💻
Have a wonderful week. 🌞
Thanks! I was surprised when I hit 1000. I know I’ve written a lot of posts, but it doesn’t feel like *that* many.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Wow, 1000 posts! Amazing! I'm happy to finally get hints of Fall out where I live. It's cold where I am right now (Cannon Beach, OR) but I'm enjoying it after such a brutal Summer! I love your Sunday Post picture, lol! Pizza always make me happy, too! Cheesy, carby goodness! :)
ReplyDeleteSummer is usually brutal here, so I’m always thrilled when fall finally rolls around. I can’t stand being hot.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh my gosh I've been pining for autumn and complaining about the heat and now... I'm cold haha! I've been complaining about the cold all weekend! It's raining and damp and the furnace kicked on... lol I'm never happy.
ReplyDeleteWell pizza does make me happy.
Congrats on your 1,000th post! Woot!!!
Haha, same. Now that the hot weather is over, it’s time to whine about the cold.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
October is always a big release month, so I think we'll all be broke and drowning in books. Lol! Congrats on hitting your 1,000th post! I will be hitting 4,000 posts probably by the end of this month, which is crazy. I hope you keep posting and enjoy it! :) And thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteTressa @ Wishful Endings
Wow, 4000? That’s amazing!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on five years of blogging. The Great Alone was a book club this month, I didn't get a chance to read it. All club ladies did comment on how terrible the parents were, especially the father. Glad you like it. I may read it one day. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteYes! The father is a horrible person. And the mother is a horrible person for putting up with him. I hated them both.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay! Congrats on reaching 1000 posts!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
Yay on the 1000th post! I'm so happy its fall.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Me, too.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Grats on 1000 posts. The Great Alone sounds good, but who am I kidding? There are so many other books that I want to read that who knows if I'll ever get to it.
ReplyDeleteI understand. I learn about 10 exciting books every day. Am I ever going to read them all? No. It’s not possible.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Sounds like you had a good week. I checked out your post about kids' books. I remember liking The Little Prince and The Secret Garden when I was younger - perhaps too young to get bogged down by the moral of the story - but haven't re-read them as an adult. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI probably would have liked them more as a kid. The plots are good, so everything else would have gone over my head.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
A good friend of mine would love Ghostland! And I keep meaning to read Kristen Hannah, but it hasn't happened yet. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteMy roundup!
I’ve been meaning to read Kristin Hannah for years. I’m glad I finally did it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Wahoo 1000 posts, I need your dedication!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy it's fall. I turned my heat on yesterday (even though tomorrow is 80 degrees).
The heat hasn’t been on here yet. We usually wait until it gets cold enough to freeze the water pipes.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ghostland looks pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteIt was fairly interesting.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
What's making me happy is the first rain of the season is on its way. It's cold and dark and lovely. My weekly update
ReplyDeleteDark and cold is the best weather for reading.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Nice post. I like all your other things around the blogsphere. I am enjoying cooler nights. It's still getting up to 80s in the day but that's not bad if the humidity isn't too high. Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t live in a place with high humidity. It makes me feels so gross.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh I just love fall....sweaters and cool weather, and the scents in the air. LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteYES! It’s the best time of the year.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've been wanting to read that Kristin Hannah book. It looks good. Congrats on the 1000th post! I'm always happy when pizza is around :) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree about the authors tone in Ghostland. It was so irritating!! That book could have been much better if he left out the bragging....
ReplyDeleteYES! I wish he’d focused more on the interviews and stories and less on his own opinions.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Its freezing here in Melbourne but then I return to Sri Lanka where it is broiling!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I guess you get the worst of both places!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I really want to read The Great Alone! I currently have it on hold at my library. I hope you enjoy it! Thank you for linking my post this week! :D Congrats on pizza and your 1000th post!
ReplyDeleteThe end got too melodramatic for me, but other than that, I loved it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on 1000 posts! I was curious how many I'd written, but I realized I've deleted a bunch over tie, so I'll never know for sure. Oh well---it's a lot. :-)
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Oops! I've deleted them over time. Yeah, that.
DeleteI deleted the majority of the posts I wrote during my first 2 years of blogging. I probably passed 1000 a long time ago, but it’s good to be officially there now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh wow, congratulations on making it to 1000 blog posts! No wonder you're tired. ;) Which books are coming out soon that you're excited for?
ReplyDeleteSo many! Vengeful, Lady’s Guide, Bridge of Clay, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, and Dry are at the top of my to-read list.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I want a real fall!!! It's still so stinking hot and humid here :-((
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
I hope fall gets to you soon!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Broke but drowning in books - sounds familiar.
ReplyDeleteI know! That’s just regular life . . .
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on 1000 posts! I'll send pizza. :)
ReplyDeleteI would appreciate that!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ghostland was so disappointing for me! I expected to love it so much that I pre-ordered it in hardcover but ended up DNFing it. I think part of the issue was that my expectations were so high. I definitely agree about the author thinking he's the smartest person in the room. I got that feeling too. Cold weather already! We're down to not always boiling outside but I'll take it. Cold sounds actually kind of nice at this point and I can't stand cold!
ReplyDeleteI waited until the price came down and got it used, but I also had high expectations. It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought there would be more ghost stories and more history.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm so happy fall is finally here! There's nothing better than snuggling in a cozy blanket with a good book. Congrats on 1,000 blog posts! That is impressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Fall is my favorite time for reading.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Drowning in books is a good thing! And yes pizza <3
ReplyDeleteI don’t know what it feels like to *not* be drowning in books. Drowning is just a constant life state for me.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
OMG AJ my comment disappeared!!! But yes drowning in books is great and reading under a blankie is one of the best parts of cold weather ;-)
ReplyDeleteSorry about blogger eating your comment. I don’t know why they won’t fix that. The comment system broke with the GDPR update, and it’s still not fixed. :(
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh no. I guess Colin Dickey lived up to his name in regards to his tone???
ReplyDeleteLucky duck - it's still hot here in Missouri in the afternoon though not in the morning. Not hoodie weather yet, but getting there. Congratulations on 1000 posts! I reached mine months ago before I moved to WordPress and deleted some posts, so I guess I'm starting over again kind of? Haha.
Haha, yes, Colin Dickey lived up to his name. I hope fall gets to you soon!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on you 1000th Post. It's awesome you've been able to stick with blogging for so long. I'm cold too and curled up in blankets but that always puts me in a great reading mood.
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
Thanks! I’m happy for cold weather and more excuses to stay inside and read.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Pizza is a good reason to be happy! It seems there are lots of new releases lately, at least lots that I want to buy. Congrats on writing your 1000th post!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 1000th post! And sounds like a pretty good book week! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the blog posting milestone! It really all does add up doesn't it? Think of how much content that is! Also, yay for making fruit cake. Cake is always yummy and baking can be so difficult so you did good :D
