It's not the end of the year yet, but we're getting close, which means it's time to do The End Of The Year Book Tag. Hopefully these six questions will help me (and you) organize our reading lives before the year is over. It's time to get our butts in gear and smash our reading goals, people!

1. Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

The Last Neanderthal by Claire Cameron. I'm pretty sure I started this book in August and abandoned it when I got overwhelmed by EMT school textbooks. I was enjoying it. It's about a family of Neanderthals who are struggling to survive the decline of their species. I'm excited for winter break so I can finally finish it.

2. Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year?

Not really. Late autumn is freezing and snowy in my part of the world, so maybe it's time for a giant historical fiction book. I have The Last Hours by Minette Walters. It's about a group of people in 1300s England who cut themselves off from the rest of the world to avoid catching the plague.

3. Is there a new release you're still waiting for?

Nope. I've been on a book buying ban for two years. My goal is to read the books I already own instead of spending money on new ones. I haven't been paying attention to new releases because I don't want to be tempted.

4. Three books you want to read before the year ends?

Most of my unread books are massive! I don't know if I can finish three giant books before the year ends. Here are some (slightly) shorter ones on my shelf:

I would like to read Wild And Crooked by Leah Thomas. It's about two friends who are hiding intertwining family secrets.

The Prophet Calls by Melanie Sumrow features kids growing up in a Warren-Jeffs-style cult.

10 Minutes 38 Seconds In This Strange World by Elif Shafak sounds severely depressing. It's about a murdered sex worker who remembers her whole life during the 10 minutes 38 seconds that it takes for her to die.

5. Do you own an unread book that could become your favorite of the year?

Probably? I'm quite interested in the Elif Shafak book that I talked about above. I want to see how the author structures an entire novel that takes place in 10 minutes.

6. Have you started making reading plans for next year?

Yes! I'm going to read all the unread books on my shelf. I realize that's been my goal for years, but I mean it this time! I think I have 8 unread books left. I can finish them all in January if I put my mind to it.
