2025 Reading Statistics

Welcome to my 2025 reading stats post! This is where I represent all the books I read in 2025 with pie (charts). Friends, last year kicked my ass. I only read 52 books, but that's okay because several of them were awesome. Here are the best books I read in 2025. You should read them in 2026.

Okay, let's make graphs. The color palette for my graphs is inspired by Pantone. I don't know if normal people pay attention to the Pantone color of the year, but 2026's color is Cloud Dancer, which is . . . white. Actually, it's off-white. Gray white? Beige white? It's boring white. It's giving "sad beige baby" vibes. I tried really hard to pair Cloud Dancer with colors that make it look less depressing.

Enough yapping. Here are my reading charts, inspired by off-white.

2025 Reading Statistics

Stats From Goodreads

Analysis: The biggest book I read last year was a freakin' EMT book. I don't even talk about EMT books on the blog because nobody cares!

I'm impressed that my average book length is 405 pages. I read a lot of chunky beasts. My average star rating was higher in 2025 than in previous years. That's probably because I reread several 5-star books.

Stats From My Ridiculous Spreadsheets

Star Rating

Four Stars = Above Average
Three Stars = Average
Two Stars = Below Average

Analysis: I read more four-star and five-star books than in previous years. That's because I reread several books I love. I also found a lot of excellent nonfiction. My goal for 2026 is to make nonfiction a bigger chunk of my reading because my greatest joy in life is being a pretentious know-it-all.

GENRE

Analysis: Where's the graphic novels? I'm shocked I didn't read any. I don't think that's ever happened before. In 2026, I want to read more nonfiction. Books, teach me everything!

Publication Year

Freakin' Old = Published before 1800

Analysis: I read four books that were published in 2025. I read a bunch of books from 2023. I guess I finally read the stuff that people were raving about years ago. Nicely done, me. Way to stay on top of things. I read a lot of classics, too.

Target Audience

"Children" includes young adult books

Analysis: As you can tell by the decorations on the graph, I'm a very serious grownup, so it's not surprising that I mostly pick adult books for myself.

PUBLISHER

Analysis:
Penguin Random House is yet again my favorite publisher. I have no idea why. Am I drawn to their books? Do they just publish a ton of stuff? Are they better at promoting their products than other publishers? Are their books easier to find? It’s a mystery. I don't know why I like them.

Book Source

Analysis: Where did all my books come from? In the past few years, I've cut way down on the number of books I buy. I currently own 5 unread books, and 3 of them were Christmas gifts. A big chunk of the stuff I read comes from the library because I don't have money or space for books.

Do I Read Diversely?

Analysis: This graph looks different than it has in previous years. I usually seek out books that meet my definition of diversity, so the "Yes" category is usually bigger. In 2025, I read a ton of classics. Those books seem to be written by white men, about white men, and for a white male target audience. Since the cast of classics isn't very diverse, they killed my graph!

My graph only tracks the presence of a diverse cast of characters. It doesn't track the accuracy of the representation. Here's how a book ends up in the "Yes" category:

It’s #OwnVoices

And/Or

It’s a work in translation

And/Or

It features a point-of-view character who is a member of a minority community

And/Or

It discusses issues that disproportionately impact minority communities

AUTHOR GENDER

Multiple = Two or more authors who are different genders

Analysis: This graph looks different every year. I don't pay attention to the gender of the authors I read. Maybe I should pay attention?

Did you post your reading statistics? I'd love to see them!

More importantly: Is Cloud Dancer your new favorite color?

  1. I love your charts! But, no, Cloud Dancer is not my new favorite "color." I saw that it was the color of the year and wondered who on earth chooses these things.

  2. Your charts are so pretty! Cloud Dancer may not be the prettiest color, but I love how you paired it! (And the decorations of course)
