In My Reading Life
I finally read Anne Of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Somehow, I missed it as a kid. I understand why so many bookworms list this novel as a childhood favorite. The characters are adorable. I like the contrast between Anne's imagination and the Cuthberts' work ethic. Anne finds the most creative ways to get in trouble, but her adoptive parents never stop loving her. She always has a safe place with them.
Like many children's classics, this one is too episodic for my tastes. You know that Anne will make a mistake and learn a lesson in almost every chapter. It gets repetitive after 400 pages.
I still liked the book. It's very joyful. The characters will make you smile.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that made me happy recently:
- I'm writing a Sunday Post! I haven't written one since May because I was too busy. Since it's fall, my work hours have been reduced. I can have a life again!
- Since I have more time for blogging, I'm going to participate in Nonfiction November.
- My favorite TV shows are back. I'm watching Survivor, Amazing Race, Great British Bake Off, and all the Halloween stuff on Food Network.
- I went rock climbing and learned I have very little upper body strength. Rock climbing is hard, but I did successfully climb a frighteningly high rock wall.
- After climbing rocks, I ate an excellent club sandwich.

ReplyDeleteI am watching both Amazing Race and British Bake Off and enjoying them though I think the cast of Bake Off isn't nearly as interesting as past casts (my favorite is Jasmine).
ReplyDeleteI am glad you read and enjoyed Anne of Green Gables. Anne as well as her adoptive parents come across as a deeply flawed but delightful person (weren't we all?) and I love seeing how both Anne and her parents became better people because of their relationships with each other.

I don't think I've ever read Anne of Green Gables either, although for some reason I have a memory of owning the book as a kid? I'm also enjoying Survivor and Amazing Race. I watched an episode of Great British Bakeoff with my niece a couple weeks ago. It was fun, I just rarely watch cooking shows. She loves them though! I wish she'd get back to some of the baking she used to do, lol. But middle school and cheerleading now is keeping her from that I think. Hope you have a good week!

ReplyDeleteRock climbing IS hard. My son did it for years when he was a teenager and much lighter. It's already amazing that you could do it! Well done!
ReplyDeleteYay for time to have a life again. Rock climbing sounds amazing, but I am sure I don't quite have the upper body strength I would need either. We are also watching The Amazing Race, just older seasons, LOL! Have a great week!
