The Sunday Post is a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, tell you what I’m reading, and share news. I’m linking up with The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, Readerbuzz, and Book Date. This post contains affiliate links. I earn a commission from qualifying purchases.
Public Service Announcement
If you’re very
observant, you may have noticed this already, but I thought I’d formally announce
it. This blog is now an Amazon and Book Depository affiliate. I decided that if
I’m going to spend so much time pimping books, I might as well get paid. Good
pimps get the dollar bills, right? Basically, this means that Buy it on Amazon and Buy it on Book Depository links will
start appearing in my posts. If you click the links, I get a very tiny commission.
The books in those links will not
cost more for you, if you decide to buy them.
Thank you to
everyone who has already clicked the links or bought books!

In My Reading Life
I did not read a lot last week, but I (mostly) enjoyed what I read. People, I loved Nevermoor: The Trials Of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend. I
loved it so much that I bought the sequel instead of plonking myself on the
library waitlist. Nevermoor is a
middlegrade novel that reminds me of a cross between the Harry Potter series and Alice In Wonderland. It’s not a perfect book. You need a high tolerance for
weirdness, and there are many clichΓ©s, but I didn’t care because it’s
imaginative, fast-paced, and freakin’ hilarious. This is the epitome of an “escapist
read.” I need the sequel right now, please.
Maybe I still have a book hangover from Nevermoor, but I’m having the opposite
experience with my current book. I’m considering abandoning it. It’s The Clay Girl by Heather Tucker. I’m
very interested in the character’s family history, but I don’t like the writing
style. It draws so much attention to itself that it’s hard to focus on the plot.

In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that made me happy last week:
- Nevermoor is definitely a highlight of the week.
- We’re finally decorating the baby’s bedroom. I know you’re supposed to do that stuff before the baby is born, but we didn’t. We’re broke slackers. So, she’s getting a pretty jungle-themed bedroom for her first birthday.
- Project Blue
Book is back for season 2! Aliens and history,
people. If you like those things, you should watch it.
- My Pinterest account got an organizational makeover. I don’t think it helped my stats, but I no longer feel like a chaos overlord. That’s always good.
- Pondathon Readathon has been fun so far. I like seeing everyone’s character creations on Twitter. Most people are more creative and less stupid than me. I love it. Also, Crispy Batter got her badge for finishing the first side quest! Seven more to go.

A jungle-themed bedroom sound so cute, I love that idea! Also, I really need to check out Nevermoor, I love the cover.

You should check out Nevermoor. It’s so much fun.

Bwahahaha AJ you have it backward indeed for the baby! Now the plus is that you can match the deco with her character ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, once the baby is crawling around, it’s really hard to get any decorating done! Now I know why people decorate before the baby is born.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think waiting until the baby is born and you get to know what she'll like is a far better idea than getting it ready in advance. Especially as in the early days, she can't even focus on it, anyway... Jungle theme sounds awesome - have a great week:)
ReplyDeleteWe didn’t decorate when she was really tiny because we didn’t think she’d care. Soon she’ll be old enough to appreciate it. I hope.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy to hear Nevermoor was such a success. I remember seeing great things about it. And, I hope we will be seeing pictures of this jungle themed room. It sounds very cool.
ReplyDeleteYep! I’ll post photos if the room is ever finished. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've been wanting to read Nevemoor for a very long time. A jungle-themed baby room seems so cute.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings!
TΓ’nia @MyLovelySecret
Read Nevermoor! It’s excellent.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
A jungle themed kids room sounds so cool! Sorry to hear your current read isn't going well. Hopefully your next one will be a winner. :)
ReplyDeleteI read 2/3 of the book and then skimmed the end. I have high hopes for the next one!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
My first baby had a cardboard box with a piece of dowel shoved through for a wardrobe, She was three I think til we finally decorated her room.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Lucky for us, babies don’t complain about what their rooms look like. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've never understood the whole decorating the baby's room before they're born thing. I mean, it's not like they know what the hell their walls look like... Now that she's a little older, she'll appreciate the room more so I think it's a lovely 1st birthday thing to do. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been an amazon affiliate for years but I've never received anything in commission, lol. I'm not at a point where I don't even bother pimping the links. (That could be a problem. Maybe persistence is key?)
Good luck with them anyway!
Yeah, I don’t have high hopes for the affiliate thing. I don’t know if the average book blog gets enough traffic to make links worth it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Jungle theme sounds super cute!! And it doesn't matter that you waited a year to do it!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the baby will soon be old enough to appreciate the effort we’re putting into her room.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love these types of posts. So fun to see what all is going on for someone else. Good luck with your readathon <3
ReplyDeleteThanks! The readathon is fun. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Aw, how fun the little one is getting her room decorated! She'll be able to enjoy it a bit more now anyway, since she's turning ONE!!! I'm so glad to hear you loved Nevermoor. It's one that I own and hope to read soon.

I hope you love Nevermoor as much as I did.

Good luck with your jungle room! I hope you have a lovely week with some great reading!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
I almost forgot today was the Superbowl! Isn't that crazy?? But yes I like the idea of a Super Bowl being about food lol. works for me. :)
ReplyDeleteA jungle themed broom sounds so cute. :) And ys to PRoject Blue Book! Oh my gosh I need to get on that show. I watched the first few episodes and I fell away, but I saw the second season thing and I was like ooh!!!
I also forgot it was the Super Bowl. I had to change the graphic on this post a few minutes before it posted because I suddenly remembered.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good pimps get the dollar bills. LMAO :) Glad Nevermoor was such a hit. And kudos to Crispy Batter for her first badge!
ReplyDeleteI didn't do the baby's room either until much later. Instead, we decorated the playroom because we were still figuring out how we wanted the bedroom to be, lol! It's never too late for that and it's all about photo-op anyways.
ReplyDeleteSorry your current book isn't working out - I always have that happen to the book I'm reading after a very good book.
The baby is so young that I have a feeling we’ll like her bedroom more than she does. She doesn’t care that her wall has monkeys on it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh, Nevermoor. You are making me want to buy it right now. So curious to see what you think when you finish book 2. Good luck getting into another good book right after this one. It always works like that for me.
ReplyDeleteHope you make tons and tons of money hawking for Amazon and Book Depository.
I think it's rather clever of you to wait to decorate the baby's room until after you got to know her a bit. Very clever.
Have a lovely week.
I hope book 2 answers all the questions I still have from book 1. I need to know what happens next!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think waiting till the first year is pretty smart. We had this adorable infant nursery and basically had to completely redo everything anyway once he hit one because of all the toys and that kind of thing. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe baby has so many toys! Hopefully giving her a proper bedroom will get them out of the living room.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think it's better to decorate your baby's room after the birth because you get to know your child's personality and somehow feel like you are choosing a theme that suits them. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree! I think monkey theme suits our baby. She likes to climb stuff.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh gosh! SO happy that you liked Nevermoor. It's such a fun read. Of the two, the second one is my fav. We get to see a little more of the world in it.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you liked the second book. If snow doesn’t delay it, I should get it tomorrow.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I was an Amazon affiliate ten years ago. When they decided to fight sales tax in California they revoked affiliate status from any blogger in the state. Since then I've deleted my account with them and have sworn off affiliate links. My weekly update
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like a nightmare. I hope that doesn’t happen to me. These links have already been a ton of work for no pay.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
In my heritage, its considered bad luck to buy furniture or whatnot before the birth of the baby because one never knows what will happen. LOL I like the words pimping books. I considered being an affiliate but am not sure actually...maybe you can update about it in the future if its working?
ReplyDeleteI guess we’ll have very good luck. We barely had anything for the baby when she was born. I’ll try to keep everybody updated about how the affiliate links work.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Great job on getting the nursery done!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look at Nevermoor. π
ReplyDeleteA jungle theme will be fun! ππ΄π
I still haven't gotten over to wrangle my Pinterest. Ha ha. Kudos for tackling yours. πππ
Have a wonderful new week! π
Yes! Look at Nevermoor. It’s so fun and weird.

A jungle-themed room sounds so cute... doesn't matter that it's a first birthday!
ReplyDeleteI hope she’ll soon be old enough to appreciate her bedroom decorations!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Enjoy your books and your week...and may you receive many clicks!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope I’ll get lots of clicks.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good luck being an affiliate! I gave up on that rather quickly. I hope you do better than I did! XD Yay for getting your first Pondathon reward! I love that readathon so much! Thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying Pondathon. I am too. Lots of people have said they gave up on affiliate links. The average book blog probably doesn’t get enough traffic to make them worth it. I’ll see what happens.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Nevermoor sounds great. I'm also doing the #pondathon.

Good luck with Pondathon!

I want to read Nevermoor soooo bad. I love Harry Potter and Alice so this totally seems like my kind of read. Yay for decorating! I need to organize my pinterest, I have 1500000 boards I swear! It's a terrifying rabbit hole.
ReplyDeleteHope this weeks a good one!
Ash @ JennReneeRead
I hope you do read Nevermoor. It’s awesome. Organizing my Pinterest was an ordeal. I have a ton of boards and stuff everywhere.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm glad you liked Nevermoor so much. I loved the second book as well and I can't wait for the third book to come out in August!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you liked the second book! I’m going to read it as soon as I finish the ARC I need to review.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I do hope you make a little at least from being an affiliate, it will be an interesting exercise to see.
ReplyDeleteYep. I’m very curious about what will happen with the affiliate links.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm curious about how you will do as an affiliate. Keep us posted--I've never gone that route, but having reviewed approximately 400 books over the years, maybe I should have.
ReplyDeletewww.thepulpitandthepen.com
I’ll keep everyone posted about how the links do. So far, not much has happened with them.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
For middlegrade books its always important to have one that is full of imagination and a bit of weirdness. Glad you enjoyed that one. Curious about the crossover of Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter---very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI loved it. I’m so excited for the sequel.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope you make all the dollars as an affiliate. I started to sign up for Amazon but then changed my mind. Anytime is the right time to decorate a baby's room :) Nevermoor sounds like an amazing read. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteA jungle-themed bedroom is a perfect first birthday present! :) Also, Nevermoor sounds pretty fun and intriguing!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I guess I need to read Nevermoor. You convinced me!!
