The Sunday
Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and The
Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz. They’re a chance to recap the
past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You
Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read
recently.
On The Blog Last Week
- On Tuesday I recommended books for rainy days.
- On Saturday I reviewed two young adult books.
On The Blog This Week
- On Tuesday I talk about the first books I ever reviewed.
- On Saturday I review two young adult books.
In My Reading Life
Last
week, I finished In A Handful Of Dust by Mindy McGinnis. I really like Mindy McGinnis’s
writing style, so I enjoyed it. I think I’m burnt out on post-apocalyptic
books, though. There is a creepily excellent twist at the end, but mostly it’s
about two people wandering through a wasteland. I’ve read a lot of books like
this one before.
Right
now, I’m reading Annabel by Kathleen
Winter. It’s about an intersex child growing up in rural Labrador in the 1960s.
I might DNF it for now. It’s one of those artsy books that require a lot of
concentration, and I don’t think I have concentration currently.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five
things that made me happy last week:
- Game of Thrones! <--
This will probably be on my list until the series is over. All of the reunions in the first episode were excellent.
- I got most of my hair cut off.
- New books.
- Easter candy.
- The Avalanche survived the first round of the NHL playoffs. I honestly didn’t think that would happen because they barely made it into the playoffs.

Sounds like you got some great books on your shelf. I'm reading a Colleen Hoover book atm, and it's pretty good. Lots of her books deal with sensitive family issues.
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard good things about Colleen Hoover’s books, but I haven’t read any of them. So many books and so little time!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
That book does sound intense and must seem even more so following a McGinnis book. Good luck with it! I got a lot of hairs cut too. It's always too short right after the cut, but I know it will be perfect in two weeks. I hope you enjoy your candy, your new books, and your hockey team's success.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I DNFed Annabel for now, but I might pick it up again tomorrow. It was too stressful for me last week.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ooo what inspired the haircut?
ReplyDeleteHot weather and a job interview. I look like less of a hobo now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Game of Thrones? So you must really like that show? ;) Seriously, though (folk), my wife and I held off for the longest time, then we binge-watched all of them up to Season 6 from one of her coworkers who bought them on DVD. Then we bought Season 7 when it came out on streaming because we couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD, and now we temporarily bought HBO Go for two months, just for it. To be honest, though (lots of thoughs here today), and I know this will be blasphemy to your ears, but I'm ready for it to be over. Same with Avengers. Both endings seem apropos as I'm turning 50 this year and sort of restarting (rebooting?) too. As for hair being cut off, photo? :)
ReplyDeleteYep, I really like Game of Thrones. I’m ready to see how it ends, but I know I’ll be sad when it’s over because I’ve been watching it for so many years.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
My co-worker was disappointed by the first episode of Game of Thrones but I loved it. I really enjoyed seeing everyone come together. I can't wait for tonight's episode. The Blues made it past the first round last night. I am excited and hope that they do well in the next round. New books and candy are always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI watched that Blues game. I’m happy they made it through. I liked all of the reunions in the first 2 GoT episodes, but I’m scared that everyone is about to die!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Haircuts can be a big change...enjoy how it feels!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Thanks! I like that it’s short now. It’s less hot.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I always love it when I cut my hair for summer. It makes me feel so light. And I think about all the years I hung onto my long hair in such hot weather.
ReplyDeleteI'm burned out on post-apocalypse books, too. This used to be one of my favorite genres. Then I read too many of them. Now I'm backing off and hoping that I will love them again.
My favorite part of your post each weekend is always your list of good things. It reminds me of all the good things I experienced this week. It makes me feel happier.
Post-apocalyptic books used to be my favorite. I think I had too much of a good thing. Now they’re all too alike for me.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I was just commenting to someone else how much I loved the reunions in last week's GoT episode. Especially between Jon and Arya. And the claws have already come out between Sansa and Daenerys. LOL I love getting my hair chopped off - especially as the weather gets warmer. My team (Tampa Lightning) are out of the play-offs. *sobs* They got killed 4 games in a row by the Blue Jackets. So shocking because they went in as #1! I'm kinda pulling for Toronto now.
ReplyDeleteI hope Toronto does well! The Jon/Arya reunion is my favorite. The Sansa/Theon one was sweet too.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
How so you cut most of your hair???? LOL And I remember your GOT mom's cake! So of course you'll be obssessed for a few weeks. Happy easter AJ!
ReplyDeleteHaha, that cake was awesome. I’ll probably still be obsessed with GoT after the show is over. I’ll just start rewatching it from the beginning.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy Easter!! i have ben MIA for a looong time. i go into detail on my blog....The haircut sounds nice! I am afraid to go short again after I lost 80 percent of my hair with a low thyroid. It is FINALLY all back nice and thick to my shoulders. I have a cousin who owns a hair shop thingie and she is all like you need to get it "shaped" i am like nooooooooo...LOL
ReplyDeleteI have thin hair, so I’m always nervous to get it cut, but it looks pretty good right now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy Easter! :) One of my favourite books is A Madness So Discreet and it's from Mindy McGinnis. The writing was just brilliant. Game of Thrones always makes everything better.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! ;)
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
I really liked A Madness So Discreet. Not A Drop To Drink is probably my favorite McGinnis book.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ooh, I just read McGinnins's new book, Heroine, yesterday. Definitely not dystopian, but a really solid contemporary.
ReplyDeleteI’ll probably end up reading that one eventually. It’s hard to keep up with my favorite authors. I read too slowly and have too many favorites.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay, haircuts! I trimmed mine last week and it seems like my actual hair is happy that I did.
ReplyDeleteMy hair is happy too. It was way too long and shaggy.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Spring is often a time for haircuts. I cut mine for Locks of Love last year and it was a little too short so I won't cut it this year. Happy Easter and have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
I’ve donated my hair a few times, but there was too much dye in it this time. Maybe next summer it’ll be long enough again.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I love haircuts! I got one this week! Oh.man jazzed for GoT. New books and Easter candy sound good! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI’m terrified for the next episode of GoT. My poor favorites are going to die!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Your haircut reminds me that I need to get a haircut, too - it has been far too long and it would be nice to get some of this weight and length off before summer.
ReplyDeleteExactly! In summer, it feels like there’s a blanket on my head. I don’t like that.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Almost time for the next episode of GOT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI liked the second episode! I’m excited and terrified for the next one.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I got a hair cut too this week. I call it the summer cut. Have a great week and yay Game of Thrones!
ReplyDeleteI've been curious about McGinnis' books. and Game of Thrones- oh my gosh just finished. They're talking my ear off! But there were some good moments...
ReplyDeleteNot A Drop To Drink is my favorite McGinnis book. I recommend that one if you like post-apocalyptic stuff.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have a copy of Annabel on my TBR but it's in storage. I need to make more of an effort to read through my boxed books. My updates for the week of April 22
ReplyDeleteIf you read it, I hope you like it. I might try picking it up again tomorrow.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
New books are always a source of happiness! I could do with a haircut, mine grows so fast, I often do it myself.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week
I wish I could cut my own hair. That would be cheaper, but I don’t trust myself!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Did you see the second episode? All of my friends are torturing themselves by waiting until every episode is out and then binge watching them. While I'm over here watching it the moment it comes out!
ReplyDeleteElle Inked @ Keep on Reading
Yes! I saw the second episode. I don’t think I could wait. Also, people on Twitter really like posting spoilers!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy Easter. I need to catch up on GoT. I quit watching after season three because thats when I cancelled our cable. I think the library has seasons four and five. 👍✨
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. 🌞
I love the feeling of a new hair cut. GoT is definitely something to be happy about... Until they all start dying. I'm just waiting for the carnage.
ReplyDeleteHaha, same here. My poor favorites are going to become corpses soon.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
A belated Happy Easter! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for Game of Thrones! I loved all the reunions too! So many I've been waiting so long for (mainly Arya and Jon Snow, to be honest!). I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but I'll definitely be doing that today.
The Arya/Jon reunion was the best. I’ve been waiting for that since season 1!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I used to have a copy of Annabel but ended up not reading it - sounds like I made the right choice, but sorry it's not working for you!! I need to get some Easter candy on sale. LOL
ReplyDelete-Lauren

I’m going to try Annabel again soon. I just don’t have the attention span for it right now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy belated Easter. We didn't really do anything to celebrate it this year. We are still reeling over the loss of Booker T. I did eat some jellybeans. Does that count? I used to love Peeps but now they kind of make me ill. I am loving GoT this season and am really wondering how it will all play out in the end.
ReplyDeleteI’m sorry about Booker T. *Hugs*
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yes for GoT -- I'm so excited for this season. Yay on new haircuts.
ReplyDeleteI’m excited and terrified for GoT!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm so proud of the Avs! I'm honestly impressed they swept the flames.
ReplyDeleteI’m impressed too. I don’t remember the last time they survived the first round of the playoffs.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay for new books! The peeps in your opening gif are so cute. I think the stuffed peeps are adorable, but I'm not so fond of the marshmallow ones. Hope you had a great Easter!
ReplyDeleteSame here. I think Peeps are adorable, but I don’t like how they taste.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I still haven't seen Game of Thrones. I watched the first ten minutes of episode one and decided I didn't like it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very violent and intense show.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Changes are great source of happiness: enjoy your new books and hair cut!
ReplyDeleteIt's Monday but Happy Easter nonetheless! Didn't you just love Game of Thrones? The second episode got even better. What did you think? I love Gendry and Arya together and who knew Podrick could sing so well? I was happy about not seeing Cersei on the screen. Nobody misses her. I totally wish she would die already.
ReplyDeleteI loved the second episode, but now I’m terrified for the third. I did not miss Cersei. I liked Pod’s song, Brienne’s knighting, and the Sansa/Theon reunion.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh yeah, Game of Thrones is pretty much all I'll be talking about for the next few weeks. The first two episodes were so good and I'm already wishing for this Sunday to hurry up and get here.
ReplyDeleteI need every day to be Sunday until this is over! The impatience is killing me!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope you had a great holiday! Have a great upcoming week too!
ReplyDeleteYep, sometimes i have to be in the right frame of mind or mood for books such as that. I hope you had a lovely Easter. I love getting my hair cut.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful Easter! And here's to Easter candy. :-) Also to shorter hair for summer...it's cooler!
ReplyDeleteI really love McGinnis too but that book sounded a little boring. >.< Happy Game of Thrones!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful Easter! I recently started cutting my hair. I still have it long but not as long as I use to have it. I truly believe there is a time to read certain books. I bet you'll like it better when it's the "right" time.
ReplyDeleteTina @ As Told By Tina
I hope you had a great Easter. I really have to watch the new episodes of GOT!! I can't wait!! But life just has been getting in the way! Hopefully this weekend though!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
You can rest assured that Game of Thrones will be on my list as well until the series ends LOL. I can't wait for this third episode. I'm not ready for the heartbreak though 😭
ReplyDeleteGenesis @ Whispering Chapters
Happy belated Easter! I love candy, haircuts and books! =)
ReplyDeleteMary
I loved the first two episodes of Game of Thrones and I'm really nervous for the third one. I hope it isn't carnage!
