• On Thursday I review a cake. Yep. A cake.
• On Saturday there’s a book haul.

In My Reading Life

Guys, I finally finished The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. It took me 3 weeks to read because it’s big and because I hate the main character’s parents and could only stand them in small doses. I loved the first 70%. It’s tense and atmospheric. The ending got too melodramatic for me.

A bunch of my most-anticipated 2018 releases have come out in the last few weeks. I’m trying to stay on top of them so I don’t get crushed under their weight. Last week, I read An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. It reminded me of Ready Player One, but with aliens and heavy-handed morals. Still, it was exactly the book I wanted to read. It’s funny and escapist.

Then I read The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky by Mackenzi Lee. For a free book, it’s pretty good. Mostly it made me excited to read Lady’s Guide. Actually, that’s probably the whole reason that this book exists. To make people excited about Lady’s Guide. *Sigh.* I’m so susceptible to marketing. Well played, book people.

Right now, I’m rereading Vicious by V.E. Schwab because I want to read the sequel, but I’ve forgotten everything!

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

1. I saw V.E. Schwab and wrote about it here.
2. Halloween shows on TV.
3. I got a lot of reading done, which is good because I barely read at all last month.
4. So many new releases. I have a big stack of books next to my bed.
5. Cybils Award nominations are open. Anyone can nominate books, so go tell me what to read.
