• On Thursday I do the back-to-school tag.
• On Saturday I review two classic children’s books. (I apologize in advance for hating your childhood favorites.)

In my reading life

Last week, I finished The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry. The beginning is too slow and directionless for my tastes, but the end is amazing. So many twists. If you like historical fiction, check this one out.

Right now, I’m attempting book polygamy. I’m reading Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places by Colin Dickey and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Currently, The Great Alone is much more entertaining than Ghostland. This is why I’m terrible at book polygamy. One of my books always ends up getting dumped for the other.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

1. Remember how I had mysterious good news? I can talk about it now! I’m going to be a judge for the Cybils Literary Award next year. I’m judging the middlegrade novels. Yes, I’m excited. No, I probably won’t ever shut up about it.
2. While I was walking my dog, I saw an angry buck chase a coyote. I never saw a deer chase a coyote before. It’s usually the other way around. The coyotes harass the deer.
3. It’s officially fall! Bring on Halloween. I want candy.
4. Speaking of fall, I’m going to post on Instagram as often as possible this season. If you like landscape and bookish photos, check it out. Also, if you’re hosting a fall-themed challenge, I’d love to join it. I’m profoundly unmotivated to use Instagram unless someone tells me what to do.
5. Thank you to everyone who donated to my blog’s Ko-Fi account last week! I’m really happy that you appreciate what I do. When I raise 12 more dollars, I’ll host another bookish giveaway on this blog.
