Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The
Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is top ten books set
outside the USA. It’s collage time! I’ve read a lot of books set outside the
US, and I couldn’t pick favorites, so I chose a random assortment and grouped
them roughly by continent. I also threw in a few immigrant stories and books
that are set in multiple countries.
Books Set Outside The USA
Asia
Australia
Mainland Europe
UK/Ireland
A Few Random Others
Iceland / Norway / Midway Atoll / Botswana / Haiti / Antarctica
/ Mars / Mexico / Canada / Africa
What is your favorite book set outside the USA?
Good variety! I am impressed. Big Little Lies, Guersney Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society, The Book Thief, and Harry Potter (of course!) are some of my favorite non-US books.
ReplyDeleteOh you have so many!! Good on you for reading from such a variety of settings. I will have to check out some of these that I didn't know. Great list!
ReplyDeleteHah! I thought of the Martian, too, but it seemed too far. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a diverse group of books. I love how you included Harry Potter too!
ReplyDeleteIt was tough to pick out favorites for this week. I still can't pick just one. Great that you thought of Peter Pan and Harry Potter, and we both put The Martian! Haha.

The Book Thief and Harry Potter were both on my list this week too!

Burial Rites looks good and I'm fascinated by Iceland right now so I feel like that needs to happen. Some how I've yet to read The Book Thief and I also want to read The Miniaturist. Great list!
ReplyDeleteWow, I've read an unusual number of these: Anne Frank, Angela’s Ashes, Sorcerer’s Stone, Peter Pan, Surfacing, and The Martian. My TTT.
ReplyDeleteAmazing list!! I came very close to including The Raft on my list too, but then I skipped it. I absolutely loved (all) the settings in that one though! Even the scary ones...
ReplyDeleteHere are my Top Ten!
I didn't think of any of these books when I was considering making this list. I ended up changing the topic a little, but if I hadn't I would have had a lot of the same books on my list. Definitely A Darker Shade of Magic.
ReplyDeleteI've read The Lover and The Collector.
ReplyDeleteThe Stranger (Algeria) might be my favorite set outside the U.S.
Fascinating list, as usual! I kind of dig the northern European thing, so I was adding White Darkness to my TBR, then I read the description and realized I read this some time ago. I'm pretty convinced that I would at least be interested in most books you've enjoyed. There's not way to pick a favorite non-US book, but I do know when I visited London many years ago, it felt strangely familiar after all the books I've read that were set there, over centuries.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I've only read 3 of those books. I feel like a bad booknerd now. I see a few up there that I might have to check out soon. Great list. I love the way you set them up.
ReplyDeleteSuch a vast variety of books featured on your list - many new to me recs, but also books I have yet to read and hope to one day.
ReplyDeleteI quite enjoyed The Faster I Walk The Smaller I Am a while back, and I don't hear much about it in the book blogging community, so it was great to see that title featured here.
