And I completely agree with you about the mental illness issue and how it's handled. You're right that an illness doesn't give Josh the right to be a jerk!

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addictionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08637114079800138680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8193309628838073849.post-62943745559186282572016-08-14T07:58:54.293-06:002016-08-14T07:58:54.293-06:00It's good of you to try and break out of your ...It's good of you to try and break out of your usual reading comfort zone and try another genre, even though it's one you didn't think you would like. Even though this book reaffirmed it because the plot just didn't hold your interest, I am glad you could at least enjoy the characters.Olivia's Catastrophehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12706765857201768908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8193309628838073849.post-71940925094417893022016-08-09T17:21:26.450-06:002016-08-09T17:21:26.450-06:00I don't read stuff that would actually be labe...I don't read stuff that would actually be labeled "romance," like, with a little rose sticker on the spine at the library, but I am kind of a sentimental fool for love stories with a bit of substance. Which is a long way of saying--I really enjoyed this book! I think my favorite part was when the teen mom totally called out the narrator and their other friend for being so disdainful of their small town and people who planned to stay there. And I agree that it was kind of awesome that Josh was such a tool. Haha, anyw...Oh, no! You read a ROMANCE!? Gassspp :O
Haha, anyway, I rarely read romance myself and also enjoy darker stories, too, though not generally horror and dystopia.

It's a shame that one of your few forays into Romance was underwhelming, but at least the book depicted people with disabilities in a more nuanced fashion.

Ok, if I'm being honest, the only reason I don't read Romance is because most of it heterosexual, and I see plenty of that kind of romance everywhere I turn. So perhaps if I find an LGBT romance, I may be drawn to it more. Reading diverse books means sometime reading genres way outside my comfort zone, so eventually I will have to pick up a Romance.
